  1. Hey there! Looks like you are having a great time! I do have a question if not too much trouble. We are interested in the Mystery Dinner Theatre. Our family went last year on Jewel of the Seas and even though it was corny we had a great time. We would like to go again on our upcoming cruise - March 22 - however Royal cannot tell me what the show is! I do know it is on the first night in Portofino, does the Compass have the name/subject of the show? Don't really want to see the same show twice.

Thanks for all your postings! Just reading them has gotten me really excited for our upcoming week!

We're sailing together! I had wanted to do the mystery dinner too but RCI's website only had it listed for our first night? Do they only offer this once?

Robyn, you are the absolute best! Thank you again for posting live. If you have a chance can you take a picture of the suite pool seating area. Also, I can't find much information on the spa. Have you been? Is there a facial you can recommend? Any pictures?

    Enjoy your evening at sea.

  2. Not to take away from the live report but I can answer these and then maybe the op with have a different take on things.

1.I was in a g.s and it was not refurbed but it is a great room. The room didn't look worn or appear to need any refurb. The concierge is great and very helpful. You will enjoy it. Friends stayed in a js. and this room was also the same as previous trips.

    2. I ate in all of the restaurants. Gio's was very good. I loved the veal. It can end up being a ton of food with it being family style.

Sabor may have been my favorite meal all week. The service was great. I highly recommend the chicken stuffed with jalapeño and wrapped in bacon. It was awesome. If you are looking for authentic Mexican then this isn't it but still really good. The pulled pork tacos also really good.

Chops was typical of past experiences for me. I have always liked everything there and this was no different.

If I was to rank my experience it would be Sabor, Gio's, & Chops. I was on the first week after dry dock so I imagine things in Sabor/Gios will only improve as the staff gets used to the restaurants in the coming weeks. You will have a great week. The staff across the board may have been the best I have sailed with. Very friendly and helpful across the board.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on my questions. I really appreciate it! I'm an OCD planner and this trip is really messing with my mojo because I have no idea what to expect. I don't want to overshoot my expectations and be disappointed. Still learning how to go with the flow :)

You can check into a Four Seasons or a Hyatt in pretty much any city and know what you're getting if you've stayed at a property previously. That's how I've traveled my entire adult life. Cruising is a whole new ballgame!

Enough of me hijacking Robyn's thread though. Thanks again.

  3. I can't think of a better way to celebrate an anniversary than onboard a ship!

I understand the apprehension of a first cruise, but you are going to love your cruise and of course your GS!! :D I have stayed in a GS on the Freedom and they are wonderful. I will let you know if the suites have been refurbed, from what I have heard so far, it seems the cabins have not?

We don't have plans for specialty restaurants this time. I dined in Chops and Portofino on the Liberty in November and they were both great. I understand that Portofino is gone, and Giovanni's Table is in it's place. Sabor has also been added.

Robyn, thank you so much. Your enthusiasm about cruising and sailing tomorrow is getting me excited!

  4. Hi Robyn! Like you, DH and I are taking our first cruise to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. I'm a bit apprehensive, but am also really looking forward to experiencing something new. We're sailing 3/22 in a GS. My questions for you are:

    1. There was a lot of talk here on CC during dry dock about Royal refurbing rooms. Can you confirm whether all suites were refurbed?

    2. We have reservations at each of the speciality restaurants. Can you share your thoughts on food/service if you dine at any of the venues.

Looking forward to reading your report. Have a fantastic trip and happy anniversary.
