  1. I am booked as a solo on a March cruise. When I look now, if you search saying you have 1 passenger, the cruise is completely sold out. If you say you have 2 passengers, there are cabins available...

So, it seems they do offer solos, but in limited quantities.

I am beginning to suspect that your cruise will become a six day cruise. If that happens you'll receive a refund of 1/7 of your cruise fare, Cheers if you bought it online, prepaid gratuities,  etc as refundable obc. Not what you wanted, but Carnival has no control of the situation.

If this happens... I wonder what will happen to the Imagination (Sunday embarkation).?

  3. The key is that it isn't the entire route cancelled, just individual busses on that route. In other words, you can still get everywhere, it just might take longer.

Staff was very friendly and helpful helping riders navigate the action, too. One driver called by radio to see if a certain bus that a rider wanted to transfer to was operating. It wasn't, but another one was operating just 15 minutes later.

I conveniently did not take the bus on the day my ship was sailing, so I was in no hurry to get back. I would be extremely nervous taking the busses on departure day, when there are serious consequences to not making it back on time.

  4. I just got back from Bermuda... when I bought my bus pass, they were warning everyone about the work to rule, and discouraging pass sales in case they couldn't give you what you paid for.

Basically, all of the routes are running, but some individual busses are cancelled, so you might have to wait longer for a bus.

I basicaly took lots of patience, planned a relaxing day, and everything webt fine.

You can get a list of cancelled busses, updated twice a day, at https://www.gov.bm/bus-alerts

(That page is valid all the time, not just during this job action)

  5. I check the Carnival website almost daily looking for good deals. Almost every time, the next day I get a call from a specific agent at Carnival encouraging me to not book online but to call her to book. Her calls always go to voicemail, and she always leaves a voicemail.

This has caused me to wonder if in fact there was a correlation between my website searches and her calls. Finally on a recent call, probably tired of calling me every day for weeks, she mentioned that every time I go on the website, it triggers a call from her. (I really think she is getting tired of calling me... this has been going on for weeks).

Any way, I was curious, is there actually any advantage to booking with the Carnival agent that keeps calling, or am I just as good booking the deal I find through the website?

  6. Yesterday, I got off the Norwegian Jade. I was on the cruise before the currently ongoing Star Trek cruise. (I did see a couple decorations slip into position the night before we got off the ship).

It got me thinking, though. When a ship is chartered like this, what happens to the crew (and specifically the entertainers, ie production cast).

I found the schedule for the star trek cruise online, and it is quite clear that the normal productions don't happen during these cruises. Are the cast members still around (perhaps for rehearsals, etc)? Do they go on vacation for a couple weeks? Or do they simply time it so that their contract ends before the charter, so a new cast can take their place a couple weeks later?

  7. And the Blue Iguana Bar would be on the other side.

I do agree with the Blue Iguana taking over the Wok. I hope they move the wok somewhere else. That is one of my favorite places to eat if I get there early enough.

I confirmed (via John Heald) that the Wok will be removed to make way for the upgrades.

  8. The smaller ships it was $55. We did it on the Fascination this last time. So glad I did, as a Pastry Chef it was interesting to see the kitchen and how much work goes into all the food they prepare for us.

Actually I think it used to be $55 on the smaller ships, but on at least some ships they have lowered the price! I was on the Imagination this week, and they were just charging $39! A bargain at that price, in my opinion.

Apparently they decided the tour on the smaller ships didn't include enough to be worth $55.

  9. 1) Turn OFF data roaming. Period. If you need internet, there are better options than $20 per megabyte.

    2) I left voice/text roaming on (but never used it). Calls are $2.49 per minute (send or receive) on Verizon, and you only pay if you make a call or answer the phone. If making a call, call from your cabin -- it's cheaper (slightly)

    3) When I went on my cruise (I just got back today), I told my co-workers that needed to know the best (and cheapest) way to reach me is by text message. 5 cents to receive - 50 cents to send.

    4) If you think you will need to make calls, make sure you activate global roaming (but don't join their plan) BEFORE you leave, or you won't be able to make any calls from your phone.

    5) Don't forget, in Mexico, rates are cheaper. Calls are just 99 cents per minute. Data is $5.12 per megabyte, which is better, but can add up QUICK. That being said, text message rates are actually higher: Received messages are 25 cents each (Sent is still 50 cents).

Have a great cruise (if it hasn't already happened)!
