Maybe try cross posting on the River Cruises forum as river cruisers are more likely to have stayed over in Porto than ocean cruisers who mostly only spend one day there, and it is usually a port of call, not an embarkation or disembarkation call.
Thanks for the suggestion, I did that when first posting. Appreciate your help.

I am booked to stay in NH Collection Porto Batalha before my Avalon Douro River Cruise. Anyone ever stay here? Thanks.

Great for me... I don't do well in extreme heat (Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand was a huge challenge for me...)
We leave mid-May - and it sounds as if the weather will be perfect!!

I am doing this cruise on Avalon from May 22nd to May 29th in 2024. I like those temps.

The D Day Tour was almost too overwhelming for me. I am a veteran who did a 13 month tour in Korea. I also had a tough job and dangerous job in a large city before I retired. I thought there was just about nothing that could bring me to tears but the sight of all of those perfectly aligned crosses did just that.
After my husband and I visited Juno Beach (Canadian) on aland trip we found our way to Beny-sur-Mer, the location of the Canadian cemetery which also has the perfectly aligned crosses and/or the Star of David. There are 19 unknown burials as well, believed to be both French & German.
I was moved to tears and to this day in recounting our visit to Juno Beach and the cemetery I can't hold back the tears.

I am booked with Avalon "The Danube from the Black Sea to Germany" for Oct 14, 2023 and my final payment is July 16, 2023.
My husband and I sailed with Avalon in 2018 and final payment was also 90 for sailing.
I booked my 2023 cruise when I saw that Avalon was waiving the single supplement (my husband died Nov 2021). This was the next river cruise that we had planned to do so it was meant to be. I will sail for both of us.
Disclaimer, I have only done one river cruise, it was with Avalon. I must have enjoyed it because I'm going back again.

Norris,
I just found this trip report. Hooray. Been a long time. I also bit through my tongue reading about all your flight troubles. So glad that you made it.
As usual, your pictures are stunning.
I'm on for the ride.

I always enjoy your "Live From" episodes. Have been reading them for years. Bailey looks lovely.

Judy, I am so sorry to lose you before you see the next batch of London photos.
Carol was telling me of slow downloads on her iPad a couple of days ago and I had very slow download of pictures on my old iPhone 5 (was ok at home with wi-fi instead of cell service).
So I lowered the resolution to half of what it was set at and for the past 2 days am back to the pixel count of all of my reviews to date (1024 x 683).
I see the pics on a 13 inch MacBook with never a problem and I wish you could too.
You will likely not read this but thanks for sticking with me thus far!
Norris
Norris,
I did read and will give it another try because your reviews and pictures are so wonderful.

Norris,
I am continuing to absolutely love your review and stunningly beautiful pictures but my devices are struggling to load your pictures, laptop, tablet and phone....so much as I hate to do it I'm unsubscribing.
I don't have unlimited data access so can't chance off charges.
Carry on your good work.
Your reviews are some of the absolute the best on Cruise Critic.
Happy sailing.

I am looking at this cruise with Avalon in 2020. Has anyone done this itinerary? Doesn't matter the cruise line. If so, what did you think?
We have done 2 cruises back to back so far..........Rhine followed by Saone/Rhone.
All comments/thoughts welcome.
Thanks.

Keith,
Your pictures of the Central Market bring back fond memories of our stay in Budapest several years ago. I love all markets but this one just blew me away,
The evening cruise to see all the lights is spectacular.
Love your blog.
