I thought the new ones were slightly a different codec and the old ones wouldn't work on new readers/tap boxes.  @ThePNVT have you sailed since the restart on WOW bands?

I haven't used them since then, but it says in the app that old ones can be reused/reprogrammed as long as they don't have the muster station printed on them.

  2. I've been re using the same WOW band for many years. I love it. No other way for me.  I don't care if I need to take it off sometimes for a server, what I care about is that I don't have to carry a card around all the time.  Wearable payment/drink pkg+room key? Yes please.  I love it.

  3. Freedom is my pang-y love.  I know it's partly because it was a special vacation when I sailed on her.  It just felt like there was so much space, so much outdoor open space in particular. (With access to the heli pad on the bow!) I met a lot of really friendly folks on that ship too, it just had a great relaxing vibe.

I really love the Oasis class too with so much to do, but then Anthem is dreamy--I'm an outlier, maybe--I think 270 is just the bees knees.

My first cruise was with my parents when I was a young adult on Song of America.  Amazing memories of that version of cruising too.  SO fancy.

I'm the opposite of the complainers--I could make a list of 20 things that make each ship I've been on "the best."

  4. I love the private islands.  I love not stressing about transportation, food, drink, crime, being harassed to buy things... I love just getting off the ship and exploring the trails and finding a quiet shady spot on the beach.  The only thing I DON'T love is that "Cay" does NOT RHYME WITH DAY!  And it might drive me stark raving mad.  But bring on more private stops!

  5. It's not out for my upcoming Anthem (edited cause I wrote the wrong A ship 😉 ) cruise either, and I'm around 60 days out.  So weird.  Someone posted in the thread for that sailing that RCCL said it was delayed (but I thought they said cause Harmony and Symphony were keeping them busy...)

  6. There's only ONE long Oasis class itinerary (once-- Oasis April 2019 from US to Spain which is dreamy but not the right time frame.) No other long ones on Oasis class! The Grandeur itineraries look sweet, but the flowrider time on the Oasis class is sooooooooooooo much more.

Currently contemplating b2b on any Oasis class that fits in our time frame...first with just a balcony room 2nd with a full suite...

Will likely look at rebooking while onboard Harmony in Dec...

  7. Yes! We're about to embark on our first Oasis class cruise and it looks (from seeing the Cruise Compasses) like there will be SO MUCH more flowrider time than on other cruises we've been on (and loved!) I think this is good advice and Oasis class should be our first priority...

If it’s the fliwridervthat makes the vacation for your hubby then book an Oasus class ship so that there are 2 flowrider. Maybe consider booking a hour private session for him.
  8. My husband and I are loyal to Royal (namely, it's the FlowRider because that makes the vacation for hubby...) We don't take tons of vacations, but have been trying to do a Royal cruise about every 2 years. Next year is our 20th wedding anniversary and we want to do something really special! We can't imagine any other vacation being as perfect as a RCCL cruise, but we don't want to just do something plain ol' plain ol'... and we're not millionaires ;) just regular working folks...

If you were looking to take a SPECIAL RCCL cruise in late 2019/early 2020 what would you be considering? I'm thinking repositioning maybe? We tend not to care so much about ports as we do about being on the ocean/on the ship...?? Would love ideas!

  9. Bill, if you start a support group I'd like to join. The bow of Freedom was my favorite place on any cruise ship ever (ok, fine, I've only been on 4.) Harmony is next up and I'm sooooooooo disappointed that it sounds like I likely won't get out there (and still insanely excited for the awesome ship, to be clear). Contrary to what atsealife said above, I think it's the most perfect place to hang out on the whole ship. The view is deeply awe inspiring, most people don't want to be up there so it's a great solitary spot, it's breezy and cool, just bring your sunscreen and drink along. (And who needs eyelashes anyway?!) I spent hours and hours up there alone on my Freedom cruise a few years back.

I concur, and it has been an obsession for me (Not enough to warrant therapy) I will be trying on Symphony next year. When I paid for the all access tour on Oasis the group before us did go out there, we did not. Its a conspiracy!;)
  10. We were on Anthem for a recently sold out sailing and there was plenty of "space." My husband and I enjoyed uncrowded hot tub time, uncrowded bars, uncrowded time in the solarium (many times throughout the week) plenty of space indoors and out to enjoy quiet. One of my main critiques of Anthem is that they really "missed the boat" (har har) with crowd control for events and gatherings (tendering, shows, bumper cars, rollerskating, etc) but the ship itself never felt "crowded" to me at all. (And all that said we LOVED Anthem. Have fun!)

  11. We were also on this cruise and had a lovely time. I was a little nervous with all the Anthem-haters, but most of the bad stuff I had heard was unfounded in my opinion. I'll write a review soon too.

There was free arcade time offered (for the general public and then just for teens)

The Flowrider ran when temps were over 10C (about 50F) which for this sailing meant no sessions the first day, nor the second morning, nor the last afternoon. There were some others near those times that baaaarely happened (with lots of teeth chattering--my peeps wore thermal rashers which didn't really touch the hypothermia, but they went anyway cause that's WHY they cruise ;) If we ever cruise from NJ again they'll bring full wetsuits  but I just might not be a NJ sailor...we'll see...)

From the first day cruise compass...

-Is free arcade time being offered?

-Is the flowrider opened even when it is freezing?

  12. We arrived at the port (which we flew to) for our last cruise and my husband (who didn't have a passport) presented his birth cert.....and HIS NAME HAD WORN OFF OF IT!!!!!!!!!!! (Because he kept it folded and the fold kind of eroded the ink) it was GONE, nothing, nada, a BC without a name! We about died. His mother pulled through and emailed them a photograph of the copy she kept. SAVED THE DAY. I think it took 10 years off my life. He would have been totally shipwrecked if he had missed the boat at a port, etc, I was paranoid about it the whole vacation. He has a passport now.

  13. My hubby gets terrible sea sickness if not medicated and gets total relief from taking Bonine (Meclizine) as per package instructions. It works so well for him that last cruise he said "I haven't been sea sick at all, I don't think I need to take the Bonine anymore!" (I tried...) and of course as soon as it wore off he started turning green, had to leave the dining room without his dinner, went back to the cabin to take the meds and slept it off.

That said, if this is your first time on a cruise ship you may want to have the patch on hand JUST IN CASE you're one of the few who Meclizine doesn't work for, cause wouldn't that suck (more than wasting $40 even...)

And whatever you do, don't take the original Dramamine (unless you want to sleep through your vacation.)

  14. This was one of my big hanging questions for our cruise in 2 weeks! I'm so psyched you answered. You really think our Toyota Highlander AND the car top carrier will fit?

Definitely. Many people had them and the ceilings are very high. If you get a parking spot higher than level "one", when you disembark, pull your car down to level one. There is a large spot where everyone loads and unloads the cars. This way, everyone does not have to schlep all of the luggage up and down the ramps.
