  1. Yes I agree. That's why we called to ask. When we called to "cancel" we also booked another one right then.

Wow. Thanks for sharing your experience. Royal has lost our future business just seeing how they have treated you guys during this disaster.

Assuming you were Royal, not Carnival. Did Carnival not give you the credit?!

  2. Just to let you guys know, we are booked on RCI Liberty of the Seas on Sunday. I have been on the phone twice today with RCI including just now with two "supervisors". They refuse to do anything for us. We have already had one flight canceled and the rest seem to be headed that way. RCI is still "wait and see". I tried to get them to transfer my booking to a ship that is not at a port in a tropical storm but they refuse. They are very unsympathetic and condescending. We are diamond with them but I canceled our upcoming cruise in January with them. Once I get this mess straightened out I will never do business with them again. We are Carnival from now on. I am sincerely glad the Carnival is taking care of it's passengers. My airline - Southwest - has been super helpful and offered no cost flight reschedule or full refund.

This is awful. Sorry they are treating you that way. Hope it all gets worked out.

  3. What's weird about your post is it contains wrong information about cruises originating from here in Galveston.

Carnival doesn't sell the Cheers package aboard the ship until the first morning after sailing, or day two of the cruise. One can pre-purchase the package, but it won't be usable until the second day.

Texas collects tax on alcohol sold on land and in domestic water. The bars aboard the ship must have alcohol that has the tax (or duty as some call) stamps on them.

When the ship departs and gets in range of international water those alcohol bottles and beer coolers are locked up and the rest of the bar selections are available.

This has been in place for many years prior to Carnival bringing the Celebration here in 2001, but Carnival absorbed the tax costs.

Texas also prohibits a "pay one price for all you can drink" policy from any merchant. Even with the fifteen drink limit Carnival elects not to sell the package until day two.

We Texans might have archaic laws, but we have a port and four full time and two part time ships for 2017. Something is working :)

    .

Don't mess with Texas. Haha, but I do agree. We must be doing something right.

  4. I have only ever been to a spa on a ship twice. And both times were for a massage. We were looking at the thalassotherapy pool yesterday and both thought we might be interested in getting the spa pass. If any of you guys have gotten it before, how often did you use the pass? Also, do they limit the number of guests allowed in at one time? How do they keep all of the seats from being taken? We will be on our honeymoon, so lots of relaxing and just enjoying one another's company is what we will mainly be doing this cruise.

  5. We buy cruise cash to cover at least Cheers and gratuities (if I didn't pay them in advance). We like to walk on and right to a bar to get Cheers and start vacation rather than load a gift card. We may get some gift cards to load later but like to board with that money all ready to use and that does work with cruise cash.

So cruise cash gets put into our account before we board? If yes then we would basically just be prepaying our cheers. Is it just like OBC? I feel like a total newbie not knowing how this works.

  6. There are specific types of Cruise Cash (Photo, Bar) as well as just General Cruise Cash. You have to use the specific type for exactly what it says, the non specified Cruise Cash can be used for anything.

I prefer to buy Gift Cards as I don't have to worry about it not showing up on my account in case of a snafu, I can use it for anything, and it isn't a "use it or lose it" deal like Cruise Cash is. If I don't feel like cashing it out at the casino (which you must do with any excess CC or have it gone forever), I can have the balance applied to another Gift Card. It takes no time at all to stop by GS or a self service kiosk to add the Gift Card and I am free to spend it how I wish.

But that is my personal preference.

Are there specific gift cards to purchase or just the general AmEx or Visa or MC ones? Sorry if that is a silly question...

  7. I'm sure this has been asked somewhere but I have scrolled and can't seem to find a thread about it...

So my question is... If we buy cruise cash can it be used towards Cheers or just for other on board things? I want to have our sign and sail account pretty much open for us to spend what we want aside from Cheers, so if its possible to use it towards Cheers, I would just go ahead and buy the amount we need for the Cheers program so that it is already taken care of.

Does this seem like a waste of time? We are fairly new to cruising, so I want to do this right...

  8. We are cruising in November and we have only ever cruised in summer months. We are leaving out of Galveston (we are Texans, so I know our weather is hit or miss, especially in that first week of Nov) and will be going to Jamaica, Grand Caymans and Cozumel. My question is will we need warmer clothes for the trip? Will it be warm enough for swimming and beach/water activities? I don't care either way, just wondering, I'm too excited for our first premium vista balcony!
