  1. If a bunch of 45 minute shows ruins your vacation, that's pretty sad. Personally I don't care one iota for the shows as I will be enjoying my flexible dining, all inclusive drinks and my aft suite or my friends' grand suite. Oh yeah and the ports of call, various bars, and casino.

    I couldn't agree more.

  2. For those who want a suite in the aft with a nice big balcony, there is an aft S1 available on the 1/27/19 cruise on the Celebrity site this morning. It is 12260 and I almost traded our S1 that is on a lower deck, but was nervous that it was similar to the Solstice class ships where it would have a large overhang (and is under a public space).

I'll hang onto what we have, but anyone looking for an aft S1 for that cruise, there is one available. It probably won't be there for very long - they have been sold out since the first week. When I saw an aft S1 that had popped up early one morning a couple of weeks ago, I tried to put a hold on it and it said it was no longer available. A friend of mine on that same cruise later emailed me that she had booked that cabin that morning. :D

I have that suite booked on the Feb 3rd cruise. I have never been on Celebrity or had an aft cabin. I booked it for the large balcony, and because it appears the suite restaurant is on that deck. I am now nervous about the noise from the public deck above, does anyone have any experience that they can share?

  3. On the USA Today scroll down a bit and a small pic on the left with Richard Fain.

From looking at the renderings I don't think that the orange cross bars should interfere with the view. I believe that they are basically just where the end of your balcony stops and the railing sits on top. I don't believe that the "overhang" created by the bars will be any different than the overhang on any other conventional balcony on the ship.

  4. I'm trying to get a feel for the balcony situation on the S3's. Based on what I can see from the data we have, the way my brain is interpreting it is that the outer balcony edge head on will be within the track of the MC. Yet, it *looks* in pictures to be completely enclosed on all sides. Is this accurate? Is the front infinite in nature, where the top glass slides down? Or is it conventional? Will they have the new interior opening glass or the old sliding style?

I'm on the fence A1/S3; leaning more S3 to try out the Retreat and Luminae (haven't been in a SS since right before Luminae launched so it'd be new to me and DH). We don't mind shade on the balcony- our fave A1's are the ones right below the cantilevered arms. I just wonder how much fresh air we'd be getting on the S3 balcony and what our side to side view would be.

For the price differential- I'd hope the view isn't as crappy as my mind is picturing.

I believe you are correct in your interpretation that the outer edge of the balcony will be within the track. I believe the view to the fwd and aft will be limited due to the tracks. I also think the balcony will be conventional and not the new infinite style. In my opinion the suite perks are going to outweigh the "limited view" to the front and rear of the ship.

  5. For all of you that got the email offer for the chance to upsell, did you book through a TA or via the NCL website or other... I booked through the website and have been waiting/hoping to receive an email with no luck. We booked in November and sail in two weeks.

I booked through NCL directly, via telephone.

  6. It is my understanding that for upgrades on the Escape they must be obtained by means of a bidding process. It was recently announced that this bidding process will go fleet wide, thereby eliminating the upsell department. Approximately 80 days prior to your sailing you will receive an email which will direct you to a website which will show you certain categories of cabins which you can bid on. You will be notified at least 48 hours prior to you cruise if you have "won" the upgrade and your credit card will be charged.

I just cancelled and was allowed to rebook as well. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive the confirmation email. The area on the website that shows your bids now shows my new bid, as well as my old bid with the word "cancelled" beside it. Like you, I'm hoping I did not mess anything up

  8. I'm still having the error issue as well.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to cancel my bid to see what would happen. Their system let me cancel and start over from scratch with a new bid. I had to reenter my credit card info. Shortly after a confirmation email for the new bid request was sent. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up!

Nice, thanks for the tip, I will try that!

  9. Yes, I checked too. Am happy with original large balcony cabin though so in the end, no real concerns. Money saved will pay for another vacation!

Could be they are prepping the system for when the bidding process goes fleetwide next month. Or at least that's what I read was going to happen I believe on another thread. That post also said you would only be able to up one category going forward. So that would mean you'd need to reserve a mini-suite to bid on the Haven if I am not mistaken.

I suspect you are correct regarding the upgrading of the system for the fleet wide launch, as I also read that info. I also like the idea of saving money for another vacation, but I'd love to get an upgrade as well. I guess I will just keep checking back and see how it plays out. No matter what, hopefully the weather is great and we all have fun!

  10. I was having the same issues with trying to modify my bid so I contacted them this morning to let them know. This is the response that I got back:

    "Hello,

Thanks for contacting us! We are experiencing technical issues, our team is currently working on it. Please check back later to modify your bid.

  11. I agree with you on ordering room service from the main dining room. During our cruises on Royal we were able to order from the MDR as well as from the costal kitchen (suite restaurant). I believe we took advantage of that on 3 of the 7 nights. It is my understanding that NCL will also allow this as well as from any of the specialty restaurants. Unfortunately I've never stayed in a room with a large enough balcony to enjoy dining on it.
