  1. Could anyone recommend a guide would would pick up my family of 3 from the airport and take us on a tour of Sao Paulo before dropping us off at the cruise terminal? Or flight arrives at 5:30 am and our cruise doesn't depart until 5 pm. I think it would be way too early to go straight to the terminal. I'm not sure if we'd be allow to drop off our bags around 8 am and then go back out, so the easiest thing may be to have a tour guide that stays with us.

    Thank you.

  2. I'm cruising on Jewel of the Seas in 2 weeks. My dad booked the cruise and he said he called and was told that CDC cards are not going to cut it as proof of vaccination, and we have to bring a letter from our primary care position. I don't think this makes any sense at all, as the CDC card is the only proof of vaccination given in the US. I also don't have a PCP, since I just moved and haven't bothered to get one. If I could manage to get an appointment within 2 weeks, I imagine the conversation would be something like this ...

Me to PCP: Can you write a letter to Royal Caribbean saying that I've been vaccinated?
PCP: How do I know you've been vaccinated?
Me: I can show you my CDC card.
PCP: Why can't Royal Caribbean look at your CDC card?
Me: They don't accept it. They need a letter from my PCP.
PCP: So ... they won't accept the card, but they will accept a letter from me saying I looked at your card and it says you're vaccinated?
    Me: Yep.

Sound a bit like a scene from Idiocracy?

Anyway, straight from RCCL's site it says US persons need a CDC card OR letter from PCP. Is anyone else under the impression that we need a letter from our PCP?

    Thanks,
    Mariah

  3. Wow, what an amazing review! Thank you for all of the details.

I have a question about the Solarium. I will be on the Equinox in just over 2 weeks and hope to actually swim laps (training for a triathlon a few days after my return). Do you think that is feasible or was the Solarium generally too busy? And is it a full-length lap pool? I'm thinking I may have to get up early on lap swimming day.

  4. I recommend going north along the beach. When you exit the cruise ship pier, walk to the left past the Fort, turn left and run. Just stay on the beach road (its paved but watch for potholes) and run until you are half-tired, then turn around and come back. If you are feeling adventurous, run up the dirt road to Estate Mt. Washington where you will find a very nice, free, walking tour of an old sugar plantation. This will seem a bit remote, but there are generally tours up to the plantation during cruise ship visits, so you won't be totally alone. It's always best to run with someone else. If you are doing it alone I would keep to the main road along the beach.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the great advice! I will certainly do this!

  5. I will be training for a marathon while on my cruise and would love it if I didn't have to confine myself to the treadmill or round and round the jogging track. Is there a safe jogging path in St. Croix from the ship terminal? Better yet, does anyone know of a jogging tour?

  6. DH and I will be going on our first kid-free cruise since our daughter was born 5 years ago. We'll be 36 and I guess you could say we are the adventurous types.

  7. Hi All,

A while back I remember seeing someone on this forum mention a tour that was geared toward kids in St Petersburg. It was supposed to be all of the usual attractions, but presented in a more kid-friendly way. I can't seem to find it again. My DD will be a month short of her 4th birthday when we travel to St Pete and I don't want her to be bored. Does anyone know of such a tour?

    Thanks,

    Mariah

  8. Hello! Why not just take the bus to Waxholm from Stockholm and walk around there for a few hours. And to Norrtalje?! Good (and they go very often) regular bus-service from Stockholm city. And it doesn`t cost extra money. (Within the SL-services.) Check out prices and timetables at www.sl.se. you can choose info in english.

Or go to the old town of Sigtuna for the day. Also within the regular SL-service. /Chris58

Great ideas! Thanks for your input.

  9. It depends on what you want to see, how much time you to allocate to it,

how price sensitive you are and etc...

Perhaps a two day round trip in the province of Södermanland?

    Stockholm-Mariefred-Strängnäs-Eskilstuna-Sundbyholm (stay the night)-

    Nyköping-Trosa-Stockholm.

    Recommended transport would be:

Stockholm->Mariefred, take the train towards Eskilstuna/Arboga get off at Läggesta and go with the old narrow gauge vintage rail road to Mariefred.

Bus is also available from Läggesta to Mariefred.

From Mariefred to Strängsnäs, either direct bus or bus/train to Läggesta and train/bus to Strängnäs.

From Strängnäs to Eskilstuna either bus or train.

From Eskilstuna to (and back) Sundbyholm bus is the only transport available.

    From Eskilstuna to Nyköping bus

From Nyköping to Trosa either bus or train to Vagnhärad station and bus from there or direct bus to Trosa.

From Trosa to Stockholm there is allot of different combinations of buses and trains/subways/commuter trains.

    Search connections here: http://reseplanerare.resrobot.se/bin/query.exe/sn

Obviously the most convenient would be to rent a car.

Then in addition to that I would also recommend a full day archipelago cruise with Strömma Kanalbolag.

Thank you again! I don't really need to visit other cities and if Stockholm is as good or better than the other areas, I'll keep it simple. I had heard things about Northern Sweden being great for scenery and wildlife, so I thought perhaps an overnight train there and back the next night would be worthwhile. However, another thing to consider is that my 4 year-old daughter will be with us and we may just need to stay in the same hotel where she can have a place for naps, etc.

The archipelago cruise looks fantastic! Perhaps this will give us the scenario we are looking for without the hassle of extra travel. Another option could be on the way out, if we could take the train to either Copenhagen or perhaps Oslo, we could get our return flight out of there. Neither of those cities will be visited on our cruise.

  10. Wow, thanks for all of the helpful information about Stockholm!

I will be traveling on a 7 nt cruise out of Stockholm on the Legend of the Seas in late June 2014. We have the option to stay in Sweden for another week or so before or after the cruise. With this much time, could you recommend an excursion to another city, perhaps by train? If so, which city would you recommend and which method of transportation should I take? Thanks so much!
