  1. Wow, 4 detailed responses already. You guys (and gals of course) rock!

Thanks - will call HAL about the allergy (tree nuts, btw).

I have T-Mobile 4G so I am hoping getting to shore will be enough. In fact, I do NOT prefer wifi onboard so I can truly "unplug" and relax :). The higher the wifi cost, the better ;)

Will need to find some affordable parking for our SUV closer to Pier 91 with shuttle service to the cruise terminal (we are Seattle natives). Will do some shopping now.

  2. Hi

We have an upcoming Alaskan cruise on the ms Amsterdam (Jun 26th sailing from Seattle). This is our 2nd cruise (we took a Disney Caribbean cruise in 2014 - it was mind blowing!) and very excited for this cruise - our in-laws are joining us.

Unfortunately I am finding the HAL site very lacking on specific details :( and so I have a few questions for fellow travelers:

    1) which Pier does the ship leave from in Seattle?

    2) Is there wifi on the ship? Complementary or paid? (how much if paid)

    3) Dress code - do we need to carry suit+tie for all of us? How many of these "gala" nights are there in total? If we dont care to join, can we go to a different restaurant for dinner that day? (I read 'Lido' is an option for that, correct?)

    4) My son has nut allergy - do I tell my server, or call HAL and let them know in advance? I guess I could do both to be safer...

    Thanks much! Excited.

  3. In reality, you most likely will not be getting off the ship at 7:30. For most cruises that's when, typically, the ship is cleared for debarkation, but can be later. You can stay onboard pretty much til around 9:00, when the crew members start "encouraging" you toward the door. With transportation to the airport taking about an hour, you could be arriving at MCO around 10:00 (more like 10:30-10:45). And, I'll point out that security at MCO can be brutal on occasion (sometimes up to 2 hours), so I'd allow plenty of time for that. So you're looking at getting a room for something in the neighborhood of 3-4 hours?

If you get a day room off site, you'll have to allow for transportation time.

There's lot's of things (shops, restaurants, etc) at MCO to occupy your time without the expense of a hotel.

That's great advice actually - i will research what things we can do in MCO to fill our time until the flight. It's good to know we have some time flexibility when unboarding the ship...

  4. I have a DSLR. I'd be interested to hear if people take their SLR with them or do you suffice with the phone camera and other cheaper, smaller, more portable cameras?

I am planning to take my daughter's point and shoot and also a GoPro Hero4. I have a DSLR but I think its too bulky to carry... and the way I plan to spend the cruise most of the time (next to water) it wont be something I will be using much. I think between the P&S and the GoPro, I should have good coverage :)
