  1. And the Americans have it easy 😉 You get your medallions posted to you in advance. We Brits have to wait in line and get them at the port. So check in is no better than queueing for a cruise card.

My last cruise in Dec'19 on Sky Princess was a great holiday but a disaster for the App. We managed to order 1 drink in two weeks. I spent hours trying to make it work but it just wouldn't. Not even the 'helpers' could help. And to think they've had 18 months of development time to get this sorted and it's new version is no better.

Princess is a great cruise line, but Carnival have used them as a guinea pig and will pay the price.

I will forgive a lot on my UK Seacation in September, just because I'll be glad to get back on the ship, but in future the app will be a serious reason not to travel with them again.

  2. Never been on Carnival but the impression I get is that it's about as far from Cunard as it's possible to get on the mainstream cruise lines.
I like Cunard but not for every cruise. Wearing a jacket is compulsory every night in the dining rooms and you are not even allowed to walk through a room where a formal event is taking place (usually the ballroom) if you are not appropriately dressed.
You will enjoy it if you embrace it - don't go on Cunard and try to fight it.
Personally, this is why Princess is my sweet spot - formal when it needs to be, smart-casual otherwise.
But I do think there should be certain minimum standards in formal dining rooms - shorts and backwards baseball caps belong in the buffet or the Lido.

  3. I'd normally agree completely with flying the day before, but this year when flights are still so unpredictable and could be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice, ruining your plans, we've instead booked with P&O who charter their own flights, arriving on the day of. Chartered flights should be more reliable than scheduled and if they change P&O will have to sort them out.

  4. Hello all, first post :) Just seeking advice from the more experienced.

Last time we went on a cruise we just booked the insurance recommended by the cruise line, but this time we've left it beyond the stipulated 14 days, so are looking for our own policy.

Having been on treks to remote places before I've needed a policy that included helicopter evacuation in an emergency, so it occurred to me that this might be needed for a cruise too. But all the websites I've checked so far only mention stuff like missed departure, itinerary changes and unused excursions, which seem like relatively minor things.

I have actually just found goodtogoinsurance.com who are the only one I've found that has mentioned this specific cover, which I had thought would be essential.

Does all 'cruise cover' include special airlift provision (in addition to your regular repatriation or evacuation cover) and do cruise lines expect it?
