  1. We also live on the Gulf side of Florida and have driven twice to Ft Lauderdale and Miami on the morning of the cruise. But because this next cruise departs on a Friday and we have heard horror stories of accidents on Alligator Alley, we have booked at FLL hotel for Thursday night. We will feel much more relaxed, knowing that we don't have to take a chance being stuck in traffic.

  2. We used the Carnival Barclay card to book our Carnival 4 night cruise for February of 19. But my husband broke his big toe and went to urgent care 2 days before the cruise. The DR said he absolutely could not take the cruise, as he had to have his leg elevated and his foot iced for 20 minutes every waking hour for a week.

i immediately called our Carnival PVP but she refunded the port taxes and fees. Then we had to submit the doctor’s notes, etc to the Barclay card and everything was refunded to us in about 4-6 weeks.

For clarity, I think you propose to fly on Allegiant from Green Bay/Appleton to  Punta Gorda (PGD) airport which is a few miles south of Ft Myers.

I flew in and out of Punta Gorda a few years ago...major expansion was under construction to accomodate whatever commitment had been made with Allegiant.  It should be complete by now.

If this is so I suggest that you allow 2-3 hours of driving time to Port Everglades or Miami.  Rush hour in Ft Lauderdale will have a definite impact.

Actually Punta Gorda  airport is north of Ft Myers

    Thank you.   Coming from Naples.

We also drove from Naples to the Miami port without a Sun Pass and got a bill in the mail for not paying a toll  (no cash booths)....but it was worth it....easy drive, easy in and out of port parking

  5. Fortunately, we booked our Feb 2019 cruise on the Barclay Carnival card. Two days before our departure date, my husband broke his big toe and went to urgent care. The doctor said he absolutely could not go on the cruise, as he had to have his leg elevated for at least a week, and ice his toe for 20 minutes of every waking hour.  We were so thankful that the card included trip cancellation insurance and after filling out all the paper work, we received the entire money back!

  6. We booked our last cruise with the Carnival Barclay card, which included trip cancellation insurance. Unfortunately, my husband broke his big toe a couple of days before we were scheduled to drive to Miami, and the DR said he absolutely could not go on the cruise. But fortunately, we had insurance and got all our money back!  You never know what may happen....we always get insurance....

  7. I whip mine with my kitchen mixer....also add some Young Living Lavender Essential Oil. My last cruise in February, I used the coconut oil mixture and for the first time, I did not burn or peal. Also YL carrot seed oil can be added and it has a natural SPF of 38-40....(doesn't smell so good though, so I just add more Lavender oil.

  8. I am incredibly JEALOUS! What I wouldn't do to get out of the snow (especially last winter) and be able to cruise more! Congratulations!

Thank you....we are pretty excited about getting out of the snow and freezing cold! Moving to beautiful Bonita Springs, just south of Naples!

  9. We arranged a private tour with Dan and Berit Wick on our stop in Cartagena last year on the Norwegian Sea at the end of February

2013. I learned about them through this thread of Cruise Critic.

They arranged such an incredible tour for us! Yes we were able to see the non profit organization they are involved with, but felt like we got to see a very different side of Cartagena than most visitors get to see. They actually gave us gifts to present to senior citizens at a community center and we had the joy of dancing with little children at a neighborhood youth center.

Dan and Berit had also met our ship earlier than morning to accompany a couple who had to be hospitalized.

They are a very special couple with true hearts full of giving!!!!

I just got the Renaissance Hotel downtown FLL for $100 plus tax for Sunday, March 9th on Hotwire! Could have been the Hilton, but glad it wasn't...

  11. We just returned from the Norwegian Sun, Feb 27 - March 10th and toured with FriendsforColombia.org on March 2nd in Cartagena. I cannot recommend highly enough taking this private tour with Dan and Berit Wick!

First of all, they met us right at the pier (but they had been there early in the morning, since they are called upon when Norwegian has to disembark passengers who are ill...so they went to the hospital to help translate for the ill patient). What an amazing couple, who really care about the people of Colombia!!

We visited a day care center, danced with little children, gave gifts (that Friends for Colombia provided) to senior citizens , and also saw much of the city that regular tours do not participate in. It was an eye opening experience that I would highly recommend!! It caused us to reflect on how much we have, but also showed us the incredible happiness of people who are joyful with so little materialal possessions.

At the end of the tour they also took us through Old Town and explained much of the history....
