  1. i am trying to see if there is ample time to get from my excision which ends at 4pm back to the ship which leaves at 5.

The excursion we are looking at is a snorkel/kayak six hour trip and the dock is at Elizabeth street, near the ferry.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Not sure when your cruise is but it looks like the departure time matches up with 3/24 and that looks like it is at the Outer Mole Dock.

    Here is the calendar:

I know nothing else about key west so I can't tell your about how far but maybe this can help you map it out? Good luck and have fun!

  2. Time for Sea Day #2! Hope you enjoy!

Can't wait to watch tomorrow. You have our family very excited for our cruise 45 days !

I do have a question about your Alaska cruise on the grand, did you post your videos on their board where I could ask ? (Figured this should strictly be about HAL)

    Thanks!

  3. What I find interesting here is that, some months ago I booked a retreat cabana through my PCC at the time. I asked if I could pick a specific cabana, and was told no, that they were assigned on boarding.

I am wondering if it has something to do with being in a Neptune Suite and being similar to a pre-concierge service as I was also told on here that I would not be able to request a specific lido cabana. When I called to book they asked me which one I wanted and I had an email in my inbox within a half an hour that confirmed my reservation in that specific lido cabana. We are also in a Neptune Suite for our upcoming cruise.

We hit Half Moon Cay, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Key West :) Going to check out your Key West video now! Thanks again!

  5. Thanks Again everyone! We did book it for the July 5th 2018 sailing with our two boys. I've been to San Fran but not since I was a teenager, loved it then so excited to see it as an adult and introduce my husband and kids to the city. There is something about the 10 days plus getting to leave from there, under the golden gate that just feels like it will be a great trip.

Thanks again, I appreciate everyone's comments!

  6. Great job on the videos! Funny thing is I found you on youtube when I was searching for Grand Princess Alaska videos and thought you did an amazing job on the videos! We are on a HAL cruise in April and saw these videos, click and it was you HA! Really enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Agree with most of the posts and I'm not a Grand fan by any means (just on it last month), but if you already have to fly in, why not look at alternatives departing Seattle or Vancouver? We took Star from Seattle once and really liked it. Lots of Alaska options from Seattle or Vancouver, why limit to Grand SF unless you live there and can avoid the plane like many of us.

We are looking at a few other options, I just liked the idea of leaving out of San Fran and visiting for a bit before we hit the boat. We live in Georgia so will definitely be flying in somewhere, just have to decide where. We do feel more comfortable going on it then we did before but are looking at a few other options. I will look at the Star and her sailings !

    Thanks :)

  8. We board the Grand on Tuesday. She is a favorite with us since we cruised her first transatlantic crossing in 1998. I'm looking forward to seeing how she looks this year after drydock.

Unlike Keith, we like the outside space that was created when Skywalkers was removed. I love reading up there when we don't have a balcony cabin.

That's why there are different ships and cruise lines. You can find the ships that fit you. We have a few favorites including the Royal Princess and HAL Amsterdam. We are all over the place.

I'll try my best to report back how we find the Grand.

    Packed and ready!

    Denise

Thanks and Happy Cruising!! And Yes if you have time report back and let me know!

  9. Thanks for the replies ! Lbfluffy and Belle glad to hear The good experiences!

It's not till 2018 so no Roll call yet, we haven't booked yet and specifically wanted feedback from

Those that had been on her recently :)

    Thanks Y'all!

  10. Hey Everyone!!

We are in the process of planning an Alaska cruise, bucket list item for the hubby :) We like the 10 day out of San Fran but after reading some reviews on the shape of the Grand Princess, I'm a little concerned on booking it. I've read there is always something needing repair, buckets catching drips, mildew smells, creaking etc. These reviews ranged from 2015-2016. I saw she was going in for a dry dock this past December.

So for those that have been on the Grand Princess since dry dock, are there still issues or is she back to tip top shape??

Any info you can provide is great!

    Thanks!!

  11. Just thinking back to when DD was 9 (she started cruising at age 5) and she would have hated being stuck in a Cabana with adults. Once on a ship, at that age, her main interest was the childrens club/program, the counselor, and the other kids. It would usually take her 5 minutes to make a few friends...and then she wanted nothing to do with the family (except at meal times). I think she was about that age when she told us, "you have your friends and I have mine!" We still remember when she went to a bar (during the daytime) and bought a round of drinks (all virgin drinks) for her girlfriends. Now that she is in her 30s, we hope she will buy drinks for her parents :).

    Hank

We booked a cabana by the pool so I have a nice shady place to watch the kids in the pool, also my kids will always know that is our "Spot" for the week so know where to look for us as they come out of the water. :)

  12. Hey there,

Has anyone sailed on HAL with children. Our kids will be 5 and 7 and we were thinking of taking the Nieuw Amsterdam for Spring break. We have cruised Disney and Celebrity before with the kids and HAL before we had kids. Were you pleased with the kids program? Is the staff friendly to children? And is the entertainment suitable for kids? (Shows etc) Are the children permitted in the pools? It is a port heavy itinerary, but I want the kids to have fun on the ship during the sea days as well. We were also considering NCL but I anticipate it would be crazy crowded during spring break and might be a little overwhelming. Disney pricing is insane for Spring break right now as well. Thanks so much!

    Caroline

    Hey Caroline!

I've never cruised HAL before but we didn't hesitate to book after hearing from friends how great HAL was. We are too going on the NA Spring Break (which for us is the April 2nd cruise). I can't speak from experience but I've hear good things and I'm looking forward to a more laid back experience for our family.

Good luck in your decision and Happy Cruising!!

  13. Once on board, most times, your rooms will be ready. If they are not, you will be taken to the Neptune Lounge. You are certainly allowed to roam freely on the ship. Usually rooms are ready and you will head there first for carry on and safety deposit box drop off ;)

I believe your children will be allowed in if they are part of your booking. I've seen children there before for dinner, lunch and breakfast. Assuming, they are part of your booking and in your suite, I would say yes, but we don't travel with children and just going by what we have seen.

Once again my sincerest thanks for the quick reply and information :)

  14. tried to help and answer you above in this colour

Thank you so much for the speedy reply. Once on board are we taken straight to the Neptune Lounge or are we allowed to roam freely?

Also Do you know if Kids are allowed in Pinnacle Grill? Our boys are very well behaved and have eaten at fine dining before but don't want to upset any Adults if they are in there (they will be 8 & 10 at the time)

    Thanks again!
