  1. was on my first celebrity cruise last month. on embarkation day, celebrity was offering a package of all three specialty restaurants, murano, silk harvest and tuscan grill, for only $99. this may be a standard practice but i can't say for sure. also, it seems like every day there was a discount for 20% or 30% off on a specialty restaurant. i would wait until you're on the ship.

  2. i was just on my first celebrity cruise, equinox, and loved it. i was in aqua and ate in blu for dinner and breakfast. yes, some of their food is healthy but like someone said above, they do have sauces and wonderful desserts. by the way, if you look at the mdr menu and see something that you like, they will bring it to you while you're dining in blu. i would look at the mdr menu every night just to see what i might want to have in blu but the atmosphere in blu is not as noisy as the mdr.

  3. it really depends on whether you want afternoon sun or morning sun. going south, you'll have afternoon sun on the starboard side and coming north, you'll have morning sun on the starboard side, so it really depends on how much sun you would like on your balcony. i use my balcony quite a bit because i don't like how crowded the pool areas are. it's like being in a sardine can up there, in my opinion.

i had a starboard side cabin and got to see lots of islands when we were sailing north from barbados to st maarten.

  4. if you are eating in blu and see something on the mdr menu that really looks good to you, all you have to do is ask your waiter to bring it to you. they are more than happy to bring any mdr item to you in blu. i never had a request turned down. in fact, in my opinion, they don't know the word "no" in blu. they are very accommodating.

but if you're going to order off the mdr menu every night, while dining in blu, then it doesn't make sense to choose aqua class to me.

  5. just off equinox and i'm a big fan of blu. i try to eat healthy and never had so much healthy food in my life. but also offered lamb shank and wonderful boneless short ribs another night. the service is perfect and the atmosphere very comfortable and not noisy at all. tables are close together but that didn't bother me. just like most nyc restaurants. i always eat at 8pm and the tables next to me were never occupied. blu is my reason for booking aqua class in the future.

  6. just off equinox and dined in silk harvest. their small plates and main courses are very good. i especially loved the beef and chicken satay for starters.

when i boarded the ship, they were offering a special price to dine in all three specialty restaurants for $99. that's a great savings. however, i noticed usually everyday or almost everyday, the daily ship newspaper always offered a 20% or 30% discount to eat in silk harvest. its' great to eat family style there with friends and/or relatives.

  7. just returned from my first celebrity cruise on equinox. i love blu! i ate all my dinners, except three, and all my breakfasts there. the service is wonderful and it's not as crowded feeling nor as noisy as the mdr. there is a wide variety of entrees at dinnertime. i would think there is something for everyone's taste. and by the way, if you see something on the mdr menue, they will serve it to you in blu. for example, i loved the mdr french onion soup and asked for it in blu. i ate very healthy meals, most of the time. and returned home weighing less than when i departed. you should love blue because the waiters and waitresses really care about giving great service.

  8. i agree. when on princess, i always book the last starbord mini suite on emerald deck. i love the larger balcony. the minis on princess are just larger than the aqua cabins on celebrity. larger closet, more drawers and a little area with a mirror between the bathroom and the main room.

  9. yes, there was a special offer if i booked on board. there was only a $100 refundable deposit if i changed my mind. i also received two free perks: free tips for the cruise and a $300 on board credit. i also received a $150 obc because i booked a seven day cruise. that wasn't a special. that would be offered to everyone. it seemed like a no brainer to me!

  10. wayah...i had dinner in murano because someone recommended the lobster. it had to be one of the worst dinners in my lifetime. the lobster didn't resemble lobster. there were two skinny strips of lobster meat (presumably) that didn't resemble a lobster tail at all. because it was cut up into little pieces by the waiter you never taste it in the sauce. the cream sauce covering the lobster was awful too. i should have sent it back but i didn't, i just didn't eat it. i did send feedback about how bad it was and the matre d called me to apologize. he said he had other complaints about it too. he invited me back for another dinner but i never went back. when i boarded the ship, they were offering a three specialty restaurant package for $99 so i bought it. i usually love the specialty restaurants when i'm on a cruise but these three juust didn't work for me.

however, there were some wonderful other items on the menu like rack of lamb, dover sole, venison. my friends' enjoyed those dinners very much so i would recommend going to murano but don't have the lobster in the cream sauce. it's a painful memory for me.

to tell you the truth, i think the food in blu is wonderful for an anniversary meal but its up to you. i also ate in the tuscan grille and the silk forest and both of them were unremarkable meals . i'm sorry but that's my opinion and you can see that someone here thought the lobster was wonderful. food is so subjective. there's no accounting for taste.

  11. just returned from a 10 night eastern caribbean cruise on the equinox. this was my first cruise experience with celebrity and equinox and in a word, it was "fabulous". i had an aqua class cabin which is similar to a mini-suite on princess or holland america. i always book mini-suites on both lines. the equinox cabin is a little smaller and the balcony is smaller and so is the bathroom, but that was not a deal breaker. the room was wonderful in all respects and the shower is especially nice with water jets everywhere. the room attendants were great and very friendly and really wanted to please their guests. in fact, all of the crew that i came in contact with were wonderful. no complaints with any of them.

in aqua class, you are able to eat in blu, a specialty, mostly healthy food restaurant for aqua guests. and i try to eat healthy meals most of the time. it is open for breakfast and dinner only. i sat at the same table the whole cruise and had the same waiters the whole cruise. they were fabulous and really learned what i liked to eat and didn't like to eat after two days. i always looked forward to seeing them because they were very friendly and happy people. the food was amazing and it's a good reason for me to always book aqua class with celebrity.

the ship is wonderful. i ate in their three specialty restaurants, murano, silk harvest and tuscan grille. they were just ok for me. many people rave about them and some don't. i couldn't rave about them. however, the ship has much better food overall than princess and holland america. i do not eat at buffets but i did go to see the buffet and its size and location on the ship are outstanding. much, much better design than princess or holland america.

i had a wonderful experience in each of the ports: st thomas, st kitts, barbados and st maarten. i had visited all of them except st maarten on previous cruises. to me there is no such thing as an ugley caribbean island nor beach. they are all paradise to me. i do not go to shows and i'm not a drinker, so i can't comment on the bars nor the entertainment. but i had a wonderful experience. i did book a future cruise on the ship. i booked a pacific coastal cruise from vancouver to los angeles on the infinity for sept. 2017 in aqua class, of course. it's an older ship but was just refurbished last month so i'm anxious to read reviews about it now.

if you have any questions, i'll be happy to answer them if i can.

  12. bob...did i mention that charlie is a blonde cockapoo. he is 4 1/2 years old and i rescued him when he was 6 months old. he wasn't abused but i think the people who bought him couldn't put up with all the puppy training and turned him in to the aspca. my wonderful luck in finding him and he finding me. we have a wonderful life together which is excactly the kind of life blondie must have with you and terry. some friends of mine that i've known for almost my whole life, we grew up in los angeles, moved to an adult community called saddebrooke near tucson. they love charlie and always offer to keep him when i travel. its around a 2 1/2 hour drive to their house but i don't mind taking him and picking him up there. i would never leave him in a kennel, ever! he's treated very well and gets to know all the other dogs in their neighborhood right away. he stayed with them in december when i went to london for 12 days so he probably will remember some of those dogs from then. i'm very lucky to have them.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....that dinner sounds yummy to me! i make a big fuss about stone crabs but i forget that since you live in florida, so its no big deal for you. i am a huge fan of ceaser salads and grew up eating it in los angeles and bevery hills where they would make it right at your table. i understand murano, on the ship, does it too, so that's why i'm anxious to eat there. do you know the caesar salad was invented in tijuana? yes, it was by a man nemed, of all things, caesar!!! and i wouldn't turn down lobster no matter which country it's from!

at least you have a pet sitter that will stay at your house and blondie will be in her own surroundings. i think that's very important for the dogs. once i had a pet sitter stay with charlie for three days. she is my next door neighbor's daughter and goes to asu nursing school but loves to pet sitting and also stayed overnight at my house with charlie. is charlie spoiled? of course he is:)

lookikng forward to meeting you and terry.

  13. bob....ok, i finally put my rolling duffle bag on the spare bed and unzipped it and opened both sides of it. it made my dog a little nuts. now he knows i'm going somewhere but that's all i'm doing today. i don't want him to get all upset and nervous. i'm taking him to the groomer monday, so i am planning on folding shirts and pants while he's gone and putting some shoes in the bag. then i'll close the door so he can't see what i've done. i know this sounds ridiculous but if i didn't to that, he would sit on top of the open bag and not move thus preventing me from putting more clothes in. that's his method for keeping me home with him. we are the best of buddies:)

will you be eating stone crabs as part of your dinner. i am crazy for stone crabs but won't be having any this trip.

  14. david...thank you so much for your advice and opinions. i am planning on going to the greenhouse in st thomas but i want to look around the town and do some shopping before lunch. maybe we could meet at the restaurant with the other people. i think their plan to meet at 1pm. after lunch and with shopping finished, i'd like to get back to the ship.

i don't have any plans on st kitts and don't want to take a sightseeing tour, but your idea of hiring a cab and going to the batik place interests me. would you mind if i tagged along with you and allen? maybe we could talk more about it on the ship.

i do agree with you about the ship being the destination. when i cruise to mexico, i really don't bother getting off the ship anymore for two reasons: 1. ive been before and don't need to see it again and 2. the ship is so peaceful when almost all the passengers leave.

i'll take your advice about being nice to the room steward. i'm always nice to them. they work so hard and really try to please everyone, but some passengers just don't understand how to not be demanding.

the old saying "you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" always works for me.

  15. bob and davd...a couple of questions. what do you think of the mattresses on celebrity? i used to get an eggcrate mattress on princess but they have since improved their mattresses and i don't use one anymore. i'd like to get your opinion. i also read that the bath towels aren't much to think of and aren't very large but the pool towels are a better towel. do you agree? is it easy to get pool towels in your room? and lastly, do either of you plan or have planned to do any excursions? i'm not doing an excursion in st. kitts nor st. thomas. but i'm doing the catamaran day trip in barbados with some other roll call people. sounds like a good day to me. and i'm booked with bernard's tours in st. maarten to do an island tour and go to maho beach to see the planes landing at the airport.

  16. WOW! i never knew there were gay roll calls before today. i was just surfing the website and found this one so here i am.

i'm sure you recognize my name from the regular roll call. in fact, i started the roll call back in 2014 and david and allen were also one of the first people to join. its a long story why i had to change my name from usc traveler to the one i use now and i won't go into it now.

so nice to meet you, rob/terry. and its good to see max/bob on here. hope your wedding was fabulous and that the passing of your mother took away your happiness. what is, is...right? congratulations on your wedding and looking forward to meeting all of you.

this is my first celebrity cruise and first equinox cruise, obviously. i always travel alone as i'm single and prefer it so i can mingle or not and do whatever i want to do. i'm retired and i'm 71 years old. i'm in an aqua room and i can eat wherever i want except for luminae. i'm not an early diner but usually like to eat around 7:30. i definitely have to eat in murano and i'd like to try the tuscan grill too.

i will be at the sunset bar after the muster drill on sailaway day. hope to meet you there. my flight arrives at 5:20 pm on the 24th. i'm staying at the crowne plaza. if everything works for me getting to the hotel relatively quickly, i'd love to pop over to the embassy suites to meet the other roll call members at the cocktail party there. if i'm not there, i'll see you all on the 25th! i can't wait. i'm so excited about this cruise. i love the caribbean island and i've been to some on this cruise and some notl. one question for you all. are the beds comfortable or do you request an eggcrate mattress? thanks.

anyway, i've rambled on too much; so glad to have found this roll call. it's not very busy, is it? but at least its here and i'm happy to have found it.
