  1. Anyone done this? Is it best to book a tour? Or just take a cab? How far is it from the cruise terminal?

We were staying at an All Inclusive resort in Puerta Plata a couple years ago and booked this excursion through a guy that came down the beach. Don't remember the name of the tour company but they took good care of us. Once you get there you are put in the care of some really great guides who take awesome care of you as you hike to the falls, get in the water and go up each waterfall. We opted to do the first 8 falls and trust me that is plenty. I can't stress enough how important it is for ladies to wear a ONE-PIECE bathing suit. One of our girls found out the hard way that as the guides pull you up through the falls the force of the water can/will push your bathing suit bottom down over your buns! LOL The guides are young and strong and work very hard to pull each person up through each falls---tip them well when you get back! If you don't swim well, they will even help you across each water way to the next falls. Your group stays together. ALSO---"Mr. Paparazzi" follows your group throughout the trip and makes an awesome video of the trip to sell to you when you get back. He even hides in the bush in the initial hike to catch people unexpected along the way. Too fun. We haggled with him to get the price down. He had the finished video delivered to our resort later that day---great video. Great, memorable trip to the Falls. My review is on Trip Advisor under Butterfinger1954. Have fun! BTW, we were in our late 50's.

  2. And do they only sell the tokens there, not the ticket booklet? Where in Hamilton can we buy the ticket booklet with 15 tickets? Just to be clear, you us one ticket each time you board a bus or ferry?

    From the Royal Gazette:

"However, staff at the official centre are said to be under orders from the transport ministry only to sell $19 day passes to visitors, even though regular $4.50 tokens are sold nearby at the Bermuda Craft Market."

It's not as convenient but you can pick up two tokens at the craft market for your round trip. It's a simple work around.

  3. thank you Charles, I was wondering how much is over rated and this at least gives me a start. I truly appreciate it

Interesting on how people can have differing opinions. We have been to Bermuda twice (was just there last Oct. and going again on May 1. We visited the caves and did just the one for $18. We chose Chrystal Cave and it was really beautiful in there. GREAT for picture taking too. I thought it was prettier than the commercial caves we went to in Virginia. On our last cruise we had our 3 year old granddaughter with us and we had a rainy day and decided to go to the zoo/aquarium. Mind you we live way up in northern Maine and there are no zoos in Maine really. We loved the zoo and aquarium and so did the little one. Only $10 for all. When you get the Madagascar section there are free roaming lemers, so adorable and yes, another great photo op.

As for beaches, Horseshoe Bay is a must. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! I recommend taking the bus to Warwick Long Bay and seeing a straight long beach with good waves and really pink course sand and then walking the trail to the far right on the beach towards Horseshoe (about a 1/2 hour lovely walk). You will pass beautiful, picturesque Jobsons Cove (you wife will LOVE that). Then you end up at Horseshoe bay where there is food, drink, chairs, umbrellas, etc. Make sure you check out the far right of the beach where there is a secluded cove.....sooooo pretty.

I also highly recommend you make a stop at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Only $2.50 pp to climb the inside steps. When you step outside at the top the view of the area (and almost the entire of Bermuda) is worth a million bucks. Great photo op again.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Bermuda. Just riding the bus from place to place is amazing as the views of the turquoise water on either side of the road along the way is amazing. Can't take your eyes off it.

  4. I have been to Bermuda twice. The sand at Warwick Long Bay beach is much pinker and courser than the sand at beautiful Horseshoe Bay beach which has a much subtler "pinkish" color and is a softer sand.

  5. Island Majesty and others who helped us figure out the closest KH to dockyard. It's great to know that we need the #8 bus also. I'm sure we can find it now. Thanks so very much for your assistance. Can't wait to arrived in beautiful Bermuda next week.

  6. To be honest I forgot. But I'm going Somerset tomorrow, so I will try to remember to look out for it.

I have the phone # for the 2 halls in Somerset, but am not able to call internationally. If it would be easier for you to call the # and just ask for the address for me that would be great too.

The #'s are Somerset Upper cong. 238-9434 and Somerset Lower 234-0746

Rest assured whomever answers will be kind and helpful. If you call can you also ask if we can expect to see a public witnessing cart/table at the Dockyard?

  7. Kathy,

There are two Kingdom Hall's in Somerset(Sandys Parish) unfortunately I don't know where either of them are located specifically. But I will see if I can find out tomorrow.

Was wondering if you were ever able to find that Somerset Kingdom Hall address for us.

  8. It is a small zoo and a small aquarium. Should be plenty of time. In my opinion it is only worth going to visit if taking younger children.

Not sure I understand. Is the Aquarium and zoon all one place with one price or are they separate? Also I heard of a place called Devil's Hole is it also at the same place or somewhere different?

We sail to Bermuda with our 2 year old granddaughter in less than 2 weeks.

  9. Thank you, we're doing good so far.

First of all I hope there wasn't much damage to your beautiful island. Glad that you are ok.

We are visiting Bermuda on the Breakaway Oct 21-23. I've been able to find out that there is a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Summerset, but can't seem to find the actual address. Do you happen to know where it is located and how far that would be from the nearest bus stop? Or could you possibly find out for me?

    Thanks,

    Kathy in Maine

  10. And the headboard.

Which you guys probably would have damaged one way or another anyhow...

Thanks to the last two posters who actually have a sense of humor. We were mortifiedly embarrassed about the situation and certainly learned a lesson from it. Yes, we were able to get dressed before security came to our room. And yes, we received a letter under our door early the next morning to have a meeting with the captain about the situation. Hubby insisted on going without me because I was already so embarrassed and I reminded him to take the credit card with him. Captain explained WHY no candles are allowed onboard ships, and told him if we promised not to burn any more candles, we were fine and no charges against us. (Marks on headboard were minimal and were easily buffed out by hubby so you could hardly tell.) Trust me, we have been on 12 cruises now and we don't bring candles, irons or anything else that heats up, except my curling iron.

  11. I would not be bragging that you carelessly lit candles on a cruise and potentially put hundreds of passengers lives in danger. Talk about being irresponsible![emoji35]

I have to say I really don't appreciate your snippiness. R U one of those people who thinks they know everything??? R U Perfect and never make mistakes??? This was our very first cruise and we did NOT know that you couldn't have candles onboard or we would NOT have done this. (BTW, the candles were in votive cups) Hard lesson learned. Situation was taken care of very quickly with no one hurt but the pillow.

  12. Trying to melt chocolate cake? :D

Nope not melting chocolate cake. LOL It was our 20th anniversary and we had the honeymoon suite on a now defunt cruiseline. I had lit some votive candles on the headboard for a lil romance. While we were 'busy' the pillow caught fire and quickly went up in flames and scorched the headboard, made quite a mess on the sheets and set off fire alarms....Something we'll never forget......like being runners in Aruba last year. OYE! Well, at least we keep cruising exciting.

  13. I'm on board the Norwegian Breakaway right now, in our way back to new york.

We were just informed about a small fire in the garbage room. Situation is under control right now, and an announcement was made stating that there was no cause for alarm and that the fire was completely contained.

OMG! How embarrassing. We started a fire in our cabin in the middle of the night on our first cruise 20 years ago. YIKES!!! Caused quite a stir to say the least. Might be a good story to share if we make it to the meet and greet. LOL

  14. Hello everyone, we just booked the Breakaway for Oct. 18th to Bermuda, a last minute cruise.

I'm working long days to be able to take a week off, so no time to research. I have never cruised on this class ship, can the experts give us the ins and outs.

What is this i'm reading about booking entertainment ahead? I have never done that before on NCL. What are the major differences between the Gem class and this class ships PLEASE!!

We also just booked the Breakaway last minute for Oct. 18. Our only other NCL cruise was on the Dawn 6 years ago (also to Bermuda). I have never heard of having to book your entertainment on any cruise. You just showed up at the grand theater for whatever the show was that evening. So if I book online before going, will there be tickets to the show in my cabin or what? Do we also have to book ahead to play mini golf or use the ropes course? We are excited to be sailing on this huge new ship, but also a bit confused as to how things work. (This ain't Carnival anymore, is it?) LOL

  15. I know, someone even called it a natural resource.:D

It would just be nice if there is a definitive answer as to whether it can be taken or not. People want to know.:)

I had heard of the seaglass beach before went took a cruise to Bermuda 6 years ago. We took the bus from King's Warf and the kind driver dropped us us off near the building in front of the beach and a lady sitting on the porch actually told us where to go behind her building to get to it. I saw no sign saying not to take any glass and hubby and I brought home 2 1-gal bags. I still take it out and 'play' with it, sort it out and such. I plan to have a friend make me some seaglass jewelry with some of my better pieces. There was sooooooo much glass on the beach when we went, but I have since seen pictures with much less glass. Feeling kinda guilty now....

  16. I would like info on the 27 waterfalls. Who should I book a tour with? Carnival isn't offering any waterfall excursions. I'm booked on the Oct 26 Victory. I think we are the third ship in port.

We stayed at an AI resort in Puerta Plata a couple years ago and booked the excursion to 27 waterfalls with a local, can't remember who now. It was a pretty cool excursion since it was something new for us. We were in our late 50's. The guides that take each group up through the falls are great and very helpful and STRONG as they litterly help pull each person up through each little waterfall. Yes, you go up THROUGH each falls and them swim on to the next one and go up again. Most opt for the first 7 falls only which is plenty to go through. You get to jump or slide down each falls on your way back down. Do to the rushing water I HIGHLY recommend that women wear a ONE -piece bathing suit, as the water can push/pull down on your bottom part. Yes, we could see my friends bum (ack!) in the video that we purchased of our group at the end of the trip. We called our camera guy "Mr. Paparazzi! Again, the guides take really good care of you. One of the men in our group was not a swimmer and the guides would help him across the water if it was too deep to walk, always saw to it that he was ok. Tip them WELL, they deserve it!

  17. We are 8 adults and all the cruise luggage flying into Fort Lauderdale and have booked a hotel in downtown Miami, a couple of blocks behind the Intercontinental Hotel. A transport/tour service says they want $15 each plus tip to take us. Would it be cheaper to take a taxi (prob. 2) or just stick with the service. BTW, our flight doesn't get into FLL till 10:30 p.m. on a Friday night. Any help appreciated.

  18. Last fall we rented a car and drove to Kennebunkport after going to the Portland Head Lighthouse. Then we stopped at Trader Joe's in Portland for some cheap wine.

I live way up north in Maine but have been to Trader Joes in Portland. They have sooo many different kinds of interesting wine (try something blueberry) and the prices are quite cheap---some as little as $3.00 per bottle. Also lots of interest healthfood type stuff such as chocolate covered pomegranite seeds.

  19. I don't understand what a 'ship on a stick' is.

It's a "24 carat GOLD ship on a stick". It a prize they give you for winning games such as trivia on Carnival ships. It's a gold plastic carnival ship model on a base. They always joke about it being 24 carat GOLD plastic. They are most coveted items. My sits on the stereo shelf in my living room to remind me of all the fun I have on Carnival ships. I know somewhere here on the boards there is a photo of it. Do a search.
