  1. I grew up in New Orleans. New Orleans is Foodie Heaven! You can get many fabulous meals. I would suggest that you splurge on some of them. Favorite restaurants are Galatoire's, Bayona's and Antoine's for your splurges. My favorite poboy is at Domilise's but many people suggest Mother's in the CBD. There are plantation tours, swamp tours and riverboat tours all accessible from the Quarter. DO NOT go into cemeteries unless you are with a group. Regarding the weather, summer in New Orleans is oppressively humid. I would suggest another time of year. If summer it must be, then expect to be hot. Get a drink at Pat O'Brien's and drink it while you walk around the French Quarter. Always ask for a Go Cup.

  2. I'm doing a solo cruise in February. Is it rude to read a book or use my Kindle in the dining room at dinner?

I figure I will plan on talking to my table mates at dinner. I will have other opportunities to read.

  3. I plan on $10 per drink. I think for the most part they're cheaper than that. My big expense is the photos. I am going to try to take it easy and limit myself to one or two a day. Figure those at $25 a pop. I figure for a 4 day cruise I will need $200 for photos, $200 for drinks, and maybe an extra $200 for dining or spa services. On top of that you might want $100 for your parking, and another $100 cash for excursion tips, etc. So my proposed budget would be $800-$1000.

  4. I will be going on my first solo cruise in February. I have cruised 4 times so far, 1 with my mom & aunt, 2-4 with my daughter. I am happily married to a man who gets extremely seasick. I enjoy cruising. I finally decided that it would be fine to travel by myself. I have booked an inside cabin, to force myself to mingle and enjoy all that the ship has to offer. I figure that this cruise will be as good as I make it. I do not depend on the crew to entertain me, though I plan to enjoy their entertainment options.
