Great reading this thread. I am a solo parent travelling with my 10yo in September for the first time to Alaska. We have a few nights in Anchorage before we cruise from Whittier. I will follow with interest to see how you fared and any other suggestions.
I don't know if im brave enough to hire a car and drive myself, but I have a few months up my sleeve to nail our itinerary.
