  1. Hi everyone, we will be on the getaway and will be our first cruise and very much so excited. We are used to the all inclusive resort style dining and typically travel 2-3 times a year. This time we wanted to try something a little different and booked a cruise :)

In the sit down dinner restaurants on the Getaway, how does ordering work? Is it like a typical sit down restaurant with a server etc? We really like to try new things and sample various different foods and explore our taste buds and was wondering if there are any restrictions when ordering, if I wanted to order more than 1 option maybe a small portion to sample or try? Will they serve this type of request or do they have specific guidelines when dinning or limitations?

thanks to all those who reply

  2. I wanted know whether being on the Getaway with a stroller will be an issue? We are traveling as a family of 5, 3 kids 8,4,and 1. The stroller will be used very often from the poolside to the dinners and any entertainment. Will we have any issues getting around with the stroller, will it get in the way in most places on the ship? I want to hear from others that have used a stroller and how they found it.

    Thank you

  3. Hi everyone,

We will be on the Norwegian Getaway and thinking of purchasing the ultimate beverage package. I have done a lot of reading and have a decent understanding on what is included and what isn't.

I have a few questions hoping to get some clarity on.

When purchasing the UBP, this is something I am interested in as I like to enjoy a drink here and there especially a cold beer on a hot day however my wife is not a drinker at all.

    1) Are we both required to purchase this plan or can I purchase for my self? I read somewhere not sure if its an old thread or not but it mentioned that both need to purchase it, basically an all or nothing. Not sure if this info is current or not

    2) For drinks that exceed the cost of the value that is included, am I charged full pop for that drink or do I just pay the difference if I have the package?

    3) When ordering a drink, how does it work? Do they swipe a card or do you just show them something? Example if my wife goes to get her self a soda and wants to get me a mixed drink, is this possible? Can she take my card or whatever is used to purchase the drink? Or do I have to physically go and get the drink each time my self? Am I the only person that can get it or can she get me a drink anytime?

    4) I understand the gratuity is already included, do I need to sign something each time I get a drink as part of the package or do they just serve the drink and go to the next customer?

Sorry for all the questions just trying to prepare our selves, as we will travelling as a family and things can get busy with the kids. Just want to be prepared to see if its worth while.

Thank you to all those who reply!

  4. Thank you for posting this!! I too am looking for something exactly like this. We are a family of 5 and almost every catamaran snorkel tours are all 3-4 hours long and basically end at roughly noon which leaves us several hours at port not knowing what to do. I am very interested in any recommendations of all day excursions.

  5. Hello everyone,

This is our first trip to St. Thomas as a family of 5 with 3 kids 8 years being the oldest.

We are looking for suggestions / advice on a great snorkeling excursion that will take us out on a catamaran and will allow us to snorkel and swim to the beach? Does anyone have any suggestions recommendations on a great trip that the kids will love as well as the adults? We have a 1 year old with us as well so snorkeling will be out of the question but can go to the beach to play while with one adult and the other snorkel.

Based on what i've read around most of these types of excursions are roughly 3-4 hours long which will leave us with 4 hours left in the day before boarding back on our ship.

Does anyone have any other recommendations on what to do after we get back from our snorkel excursion? It seems that there will be a total of 5 or 6 ships in that day keeping that in mind as well. Do we have enough time to go to a beach? Is it worth it to take a taxi there at that time of day and spend 2 hours on the beach? Will we have a hard time finding a chair/umbrella to rent?

I would love to hear any suggestions!

    thank you

  6. Hello everyone,*

We will be on the Getaway at the end of the month with a family of 5* with the oldest child be 8.

What* dining options are available that are included with our cruise? I've read around a bit but still very confused. I see many talking about dining option and all these additional fees. Are there any sit down served dinners or are all meals buffet style?** Is it worth it to upgrade to a dining plan? What more do we get if we pay the additional fee? How is the food with the meal plan that is included with our cruise? Will we be disappointed.*

For the dinners that are included is it a first come first served or do we need to make reservations in advance of our cruise?

Thank you to all those that respond!*

  7. I too will be travelling to Maho area with my family of 5 (3 children). We want to do a catamaran excursion but unfortunately they do not visit Maho beach. Want to see if its cost affective and if we have time to finish our exucursion which brings us back at roughly 12:30, then take a taxi with our family to the beach for a few hours and be back by 6pm to set sail. Any ideas on cost and times and how hard it would be to find a taxi to take us there?

  8. Good day everyone!

We are a family of 5 going on our first cruise on the Norwegian Getaway in late February. We typically go away 2-3 times a year on all inclusive resort vacations and we know the process to book for tours and getting around etc..

This is our first cruise and not really sure the best way to approach this. We want to book excursions for the 3 ports of call we will be visiting during our trip but not sure with who or when to book these?

Is it best to book these in advance? Book through the cruise line, tour operator or book them when we get on the ship? I've also been reading around about people just getting off of the ship and booking them there on the spot.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to booking an excursion in advance? We have 3 kids 1, 4, and 8 years old and wondering if others have any suggestions or recommendations?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!
