  1. We are coming from Columbia SC so our total train tickets to Miami and back were right at $300 with insurance. Between fuel prices and the parking we would spend more than that driving down there. So we figured we would try the train. We arrive the night before the cruise at 630pm. The only thing I worry about is getting back to the train by 1110 the day we depart the ship.

  2. Ship - Splendor

    Deck - Spa

    Stateroom # - 1104

Stateroom Category – Cloud 9 Spa Balcony 8S

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes very quiet, very little foot traffic in that area

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes

Balcony View - Wonderful open view, only issue is that it is not covered and if standing near the rail and looking up you can see those on the Sun deck above you.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - Not really, the balcony dividers did rattle, but that was easily fixed with a coin placed in the extra space so that they couldn't move.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Just don't expect privacy on your balcony especially when pulling into or leaving a port.

Any other comments? - The access to the spa is wonderful! It is so quiet and tranquil on this floor and it was truly relaxing.

  3. We had the "new" menus on our last cruise and I thought they were fine. The menus weren't the problem as much as the food just wasn't always cooked right. First cruise where I started looking for something else for dessert than the Warm Chocolate Melting cake because it always came extremely overdone. The lack of table cloths didn't bother us at all.

  4. We just returned from a week on the Splendor on Sunday and it had its ups and downs. The service was really just so-so. I haven't decided if I am going to do a review yet, I have lots of pics to look through but I may. Our room Steward Eve was good, but we had once a day cleaning and had to ask for beach towels after not having them 2 days. The food was good, and we didn't really have any bad meals but the service lacked. There were 3 tables of 2 together and you are so close it's really like there are 6 of you at the table, which was fine we enjoyed our table mates. However we were constantly having to ask twice for things, and were never greeted. In 5 cruises it was the first time that I was really disappointed in the service. We always try to look on the good side of things, because at least we aren't cooking and washing the dishes, but this time it was a little more difficult. Maybe we have just been spoiled by always having awesome experiences.

On a positive note the CD Marq is awesome. He was my favorite that I have had in 5 cruises. He is a ball of energy and is always around. He is hilarious and not afraid to put himself out there. I highly recommend spending time around him. He was one of the highlights of the cruise.

  5. I was on the paradise in November with friends. Since we didn't take our kiddos I don't know much about Camp Carnival on this ship. However...

The shows were really good including the comedy shows.

We did the dolphin swim, push and pull in Cozumel in 2015 with my then 6 yr old and 8 yr old. We loved it, and they want to go back and do it again. We also enjoyed the other things at the park especially the swim up bar.

I have our fun times that I can send you. What's your email?

  6. I love your reviews, and now I am trying to convince hubby to look at this for our next cruise.

I am a newer scuba diver and I was terrified to do it. When I dive to the bottom of the pool my ears would hurt. However after learning to go feet first and how to extend the ear canals I have no problems. I think Sakari will do wonderfully with scuba. Most places will let you try scuba at a discount and then apply it towards the full class. We are diving next year on our cruise in St. Thomas and Grand Turk.

  7. I am the parent that watches my children constantly. If they are in the pool on the ship so are we. My children are 10 and 7 and swim extremely well for their age. However you never know when something will happen. One thing that I have found that is universal no matter whether on cruise ships, at hotels or the community pool, parent's just don't supervise their kids like they should. My hubby and I usually end up taking turns watching all the kids in the pool because we would feel horrible if something happened and we were right there. I am truly surprised that you don't hear of more incidents with children being injured on ships and excursions.

  8. In Belize we did the Shark & Rays swim and my son and I loved it. My daughter was afraid of the sharks so she and my husband did the Xunatunich tour. They had a great time. On the Sharks and Rays we snorkeled and had a guide that pointed out everything we were looking at. We ate at place in Caye Caulker and had the best conch fritters I have ever eaten.

Roatan - We went across the sky lift over to the beach right there at the Port. We were able to do some snorkeling there, plus they have all the equipment to rent including chairs. There is also a Fat Tuesday there if I remember the correct name.

  9. We are doing Grand Cayman and Cozumel in November. I am "fixed" so no babies here to worry about, but I am worried about one of the ladies going with me. I am hoping that she won't cancel on me, but I don't really blame her if she does. I would be paranoid. I have bought the travel insurance so if she does I hope that means I am okay. I of course don't mind having a room to myself if I have to.
