  1. Here is what the room looks like when turned down. Please note that to reach the beds and trundle, you have to literally crawl on top of the sofa bed. Not optimal for someone with back problems or mobility issues, and terrible if you need to reach the bathroom in the middle of the night.

  2. I allowed my very well behaved 13 year old grandson in the adult pool, for the brief times we were in it together. My position is that I have to pay adult prices for him so he should be allowed to use the pool. No one said anything to object and I agree the signs were confusing.

However, as an aside, the pool needs a better filtration system - too many dead bugs and band aids floating around for me. Maybe that is why it was not used that much.

Good for you. I will do the same with my teenagers. They won't pee in the pool, splash others, whine and scream, nor leak a dirty diaper - so it shouldn't be a problem for anyone else.

  3. We just received an email that our excursion (kayak in Flåm on August 5th) was cancelled because "our Tour Operator has advised us of a reduction in staff". We are so disappointed, and now private guided kayak tours are sold out. Does this happen often with HAL?

  4. We were in 1147, a category FA on deck 1. The cabin slept 5 people (we were only 2). The couch was a full size pull-out and the the 5th bed was stored in the ceiling above the couch. There was still no privacy as the couch was next to the bed and there was no privacy curtain anywhere in the cabin, except at the window of course. You can see my photos of the cabin if you google "1147-koningsdam".

The bed sizes seemed to be the typical ones already described.

I am so upset now that we booked FB, worried there would be noise from dining room above FA. I didn't realize the Pullman was over the bed. That is very disappointing. Did you experience any noise problems In 1147?

  5. Hi Betty, the Koningsdam will be the first HAL ship to not have a Bathtub till you get to a Signature Suite. Even the Vista Suites have a shower only. I am actually OK with this and it appears they will be larger in size than some of her competition such as Princess. But totally unknown at this point. But I do plan to take LOTS of picture and the various cabins and bathrooms on my Live From thread. Tom and I are in an aft Vista Suite so we will have just a shower.

    The Family Oceanview has

"2 bathrooms — one with bathtub, shower, sink & toilet, one with shower & sink."

  6. We're taking the 7- day Viking in July 2016, family Oceanview with family retreat cabana. I like the idea of having outdoor space and somewhere to meet up with our 14-yr old twins without having to go to our room on the the main deck, even though only 2 sea days and unpredictable weather. I hope we can agree to stay on board the 3rd port and enjoy the ship to ourselves and relax. I will report back on how it all worked out.

  7. Yws, Laurin is correct. Costa cabins are all as she describes (except inside which are both extra beds in the ceiling).

The adult bed is huge when used together, my wife wants to buy the mattress as its very comfortable! You can get both sides, i.e. its not against a wall on the side.

We always put the youngest in the pullman bed, its a full size single so no problems there, very stable.

The couch under is quite comfy im told!

As for space...well its a cabin! Once the cases are away under the bed, (plenty of space), there are 2 wardrobes, take extra hangers! The third wardrobe hides shelving, we allocate a shelf a person, seems to work for me!

And the free to use safe is in there too.

The pic shows our cabin before we lived in it!!!! You can see the bed on the side still as a couch, the life jackets are on it, the pullman isn't down in this one. Once the sofa bed is made up it stays made up for the week and the pullman bed is lowered as well. On the internal cabins the pullman beds were put away each day.

    Thanks for the info!

  8. Hello everyone. I posted this question on the Newbie Q/A stickie and I was suggested post here. I hope some of you with experience embarking in Amsterdam can help as I am hopefully finalizing our booking today.

We are booking HAL for first time, cruise to/from Amsterdam. We are from Denmark so will arrive and depart the same dates as its only 1.5 hours flight to AMS. How long does it take to get from AMS to Passenger Terminal Amsterdam? Is it best to book transport from airport via HAL (what is that -- shuttle?) or take a taxi? Thanks for your help!
