  1. Be patient with Princess and be mindful of your TA’s commission?  What other companies would you extend patience to if they had thousands of dollars of your money?

If your electric company accidentally took $10,000 from your autopay instead of $100 and when you called them they said it would be 90 days until you got your money back, would you shrug your shoulders and take the attitude that they are pretty busy down there at Acme Gas and Electric?  Not a chance.

We are among those awaiting a refund. We have disputed the charge with CITI Bank, because despite having cancelled with our TA in mid-March and despite having requested a refund, not FCC in response to the Princess letter we all received, Princess still shows as booked, not cancelled. Mysteriously, they did cancel our EZ Air reservation, though.

In fact, when I spoke with a Princess rep, she said their system didn’t show us as cancelled. Never mind that Princess had cancelled the cruise already.

In February, the Princess computer systems magically collected final payments for every one of the thousands of booking for our cruise,  in one fell swoop.  Refunds ought to be as simple. Push the button and reverse the charges for initial deposit and final payment. I get that other charges for excursions, prepaid, etc. are trickier and might need extra time to reconcile.

Make no mistake, the delay in Princess refunds is about cash flow management, not logistical problems in processing refunds.

Banned from Princess for filing a CC dispute? I doubt it, but the world is full of vacation options and we will be fine. I’m not operating a bank here.

  2. I totally despise people who take, promote and deal recreational drugs. I have no time for them in my life. They are the lowest of the low and to be perfectly frank I don't even consider then worthy human beings. I have never touched a recreational drug in my life and I am pleased and proud to go through life without any association with them. I don't have time in my life for people that need to take recreational drugs to get their kicks.

So yes I am pleased and proud to put my hand up high and say I advocate that druggies are scum.

My point was that if you advocate that the government kill others, you are on a slippery slope.

  3. The security staff knew all along. They usually do, they are not stupid hence the reason there was a major operation to catch them.

The only sad thing is that the ship did not stop in a country that has the death penalty and allow them to be arrested there. That at least would have been the best outcome with less scum allowed to live.

Scum is in the eye of the beholder. Take care about what you advocate.

  4. Do I use my actual name here?

When I am onboard the ship, I decide whom I want to meet and exchange names with. Advertising Platinum or Elite in the mailbox, might make the impression that there is something of value in our cabin. .

You do understand that Warren Buffet gets a blue card on his first cruise, don't you?

  5. Was wondering if someone can explain to me why the airfare leaving Ft Lauderdale on Sunday February 21 is double that of any other Sunday. I know it is Daytona 500 day but that would be for people flying in.

We are flying from Ft Lauderdale to Detroit after our cruise on the Regal and compared all airlines and it is so high.

We are Canadians that fly out of Detroit. Is this a holiday in the United States or is there something else going on. Hope someone can enlighten me.

    Thankyou

What I have done when airfare is too high or not available is spend an extra night in FLL. On Monday February 22, Southwest has a $214 fare to Detroit available. If two of you are traveling, it is likely that staying the extra day might save $400 or more in airfare. You can probably book a hotel for Sunday the 21st and still save yourself $200 to $300 getting home.

    Just a thought.

  6. I'm sure you do, so cruise an American flagged cruise line.

You may find your choice of ship somewhat limited.

Or...and stay with me here...I could just continue to cruise with Princess and agree not to whine about them not accommodating my every religious whim.

Cruising on a religious holiday is a choice you make. Don't expect Princess to turn the ship into a veritable Noah's Ark of religious practitioners, in order to cater to every passenger's particular brand of the supernatural.

  7. You beat me to it. :D

I am sometimes mistaken for a smart-alecky jerk...okay, not mistaken so much as identified as such. But anyway, I just can't get worked up about all this loyalty level stuff. The perks I like best are those that don't require me to compete with someone. Give me shipboard credit and internet minutes and I am a happy guy. Others obviously feel differently and I do my best to stay out of their way.

  8. For me the critical factor is not a question of how you become Elite, but more a question of how you behave when you are 'Elite'. I'm only Platinum, but I will shortly become Elite and I have seen so much aggressive behaviour from Elites, towards other passengers, that I am not sure I will wish anyone to know when I get to Elite.

    By bad behaviour, I include:

    a) pushing past non-Elite suite passengers in the Elite / Suite line at the reception desk on the basis that they have priority over the suite passenger.

    b) pushing to the very front of the line for tendering, rather than accepting that priority tendering merely gives them the right to join the end of the line without a tender group card.

    c) complaining directly to non-Elite passengers sitting by a window in the main dining room, that they wanted a window seat and should have been given priority for that table.

Elite is a loyalty status, not a personal attribute. Some folks are confused about that.

  9. I consider our worst mistake was the packing of formal wear. It takes up valuable space in our luggage which is increasingly more vital with the airlines charging for checked luggage. There are other items that we would get more benefit from on a cruise than formal wear. In our opinion the formal night dinners in the main dining room just aren't worth the hassle. I don't think we are alone in noticing that the trend today is moving away from traditional dining and formal wear.

    I think you are right.

  10. Is the "long line" really caused by elites or by platinums? Perhaps the "elite appetizers" could be only for the elites. There were 127 elite passengers on the Regal and a big crowd trying to get snacks. It really isn't worth the effort to go.

Why in the world would anyone spend a minute fretting over "elite snacks" on a ship full of free food?

  11. 72 hours is actually triple the time it's meant to take, my point is Princess should pre warn you about the problems

Get a post it and write, "Laundry may take up to 72 hours." Then put it on your frig to remind you for future cruise reference. Simple.

  12. On our recent cruise, there was a ton of t-shirts from other cruise itineraries for $6.99 per. Shirts from the cruise we were on were 2 for $20. Decent quality, but as someone said, buy the size larger than you need. They do shrink a bit.
