  1. Hello,

Does anyone know if the solo studio cabins on RCCL Anthem have safety latches to engage once you're inside, like a deadbolt?

I will take my first solo cruise next year and a bit concerned. Thanks!

  2. Hi,

    Sailing JOTS on October 25.

I am stocking my Kindle Fire with plenty book choices for the voyage, but I may want to send a couple emails during the week.

Do I have to buy an internet package prior to sailing or can I purchase a day of internet usage while sailing?

    Thanks!

  3. nivrag,

(hugs) My Mom felt the same way after my Dad passed.

This is a personal decision you must make, but I certainly hope you decide to sail and have a great time. Like all "firsts" after a spouse passes away, you will feel the impact.

If you want, have a good cry and then laugh away the tears when you think of a wonderful memory. You are entitled. Stand along a deck, look into the sunset and lift a glass of champagne (or cup of coffee!) to your beloved. She certainly would have wanted you to enjoy your time. No doubt, you will meet some great people along the way.

I wish you well with your plans, whatever they may be.

  4. Stateroom doors, that is.

I noticed Anthem has outward opening doors for the studio balcony cabins. Do all cabins have these? Is this a new trend for the newer ships rolling out? If doors open out, wouldn't they hit someone walking down the hallway?

    Which do you prefer?

    Thanks!

  5. I got two emails today from Carnival. I assume two because on our booking we have two guests. No text within the email, only a PDF. Title of email is "IMPORTANT NOTICE-ESTA LETTER", below it states "important notice". I am always weary of emails with no text contained within the email. It seems like they could have written something like, "please find contained within important info about your booking" or something like not, but no, just a blank email with a PDF attached.

I made my final payment about a week ago. What would this email be? Should I open it? Is it a normal email from them? I would hate to get a virus, so that's why I thought I'd ask here first.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Rob,

Call Carnival directly. Any information rolled out to you, they should know.

I am paranoid about these "phantom" emails. I never open them, especially the attachment to it. Email accounts and sites are constantly hacked, it's better to be safe than sorry.

    Happy sailing, by the way!

  6. In locker room after fitness class last evening:

Lady1: Hi, I noticed your cruising tshirt during class. I can’t wait for my cruise, first time for me.

Lady2: (blank look) Well, when you get at least 10 under your belt, we can talk.

Lady1: (surprised look) Oh, no, I am just excited and I saw your tshirt.

Lady2: I get all sorts of perks, gifts and complimentary limousine service in every port because I am Platinum status. I dine at the Captain’s table every cruise. I could brag, but I won’t.

    Lady1: Wow!

I watched the entire exchange and was taken aback at how “elitist” Lady2 was. Lady1 was just making conversation. Lady2 turned her back and gathered her stuff. Lady1 looked around and walked off.

Is this true about the comp limo and captain table dining?

  7. Personally, I find it one of the best investments I've ever made.

And having to waste your time at a consulate to me makes a passport worth it. Why add to the stress?

    Exactly.

Why fool around with it? Obtain a passport. You may find your travel borders will broaden to places where a passport is required.

If you're spending hundreds (or thousands) on travel, the piddly fee for a passport shouldn't give one pause.

  8. It's a short walk from the ship to the Clocktower Mall. If you don't want to walk there's also a free tram that operates on the Dockyard grounds . No ship excursions necessary! This is not a US-style huge shopping mall. Just some small shops including branches of some stores based in Hamilton. It's a place to spend an hour or two, not a day. Here's a map of Dockyard. The Clocktower Mall is on the left. As you run your cursor over the markers the names will pop up.

The Bermuda dollar and US dollar are on par and US currency is accepted everywhere.

    Excellent! Thanks, njhorseman!

  9. Hi Everyone,

I just booked my first solo cruise yesterday. Kinda nervous, but moreso excited. I booked a super studio w/balcony on Anthem. I am not new to cruising, just new to solo cruising.

I travel solo to Vegas 3 times a year, but I've been going to Vegas for 20 years so it's just like home to me. But for a cruise, this will be a different solo. And I am looking forward to it! Happy sailing to all!

  10. Hello All,

Perhaps I am reading the RCCL website wrong, but when I plug in my desired dates for Quantum (June 2016), all I see are cruises in Asia. Does Quantum only cruise within Asian ports?

But I saw a video regarding the studio cabins and this guy said he was sailing from Bayonne (NJ) to the Caribbean.

    Help, please! Thanks!
