  1. Hello.  We’ve cruised Carnival and Royal Caribbean but never MSC.  I’m having a hard time finding information.

    1.  Are there any dining room requirements when in comes to attire.  The other cruise lines say collared shirts, etc. but don’t actually enforce it.

    2.  What do the extras cost like tge movie theater, bowling, etc.?  Should I buy the pass beforehand for my 14 year olds?  (And it sounds like the pass is just a discount rather than providing them unlimited access.  Is that correct?)

    3.  What other big differences should we be prepared for?

    thanks!

  2. We've been there twice. First time had great snorkeling and saw the monkeys. Second time the snorkeling wasn't as great, no monkeys, even less beach and was getting bit by mosquitoes and some sort of sand fleas. :( Definitely a casual vibe and very reasonably priced food and drinks.

  3. I saw your review - as well as Pittsburghgirl - or something - I'm sorry I can't remember her screen name. That's terrible! lol. Both very nice and helpful reviews.

I asked a week or so ago about Shipwreck in a thread and definitely think we'll do Carambola's then walk to shipwreck to see the sand just like you guys did. Hopefully it's not too long of a walk. One of us had a bad knee and really can't do a ton of walking but we all wanna try and catch that black sand. My biggest concern is those darn monkeys. I know alot of people get a kick out of them, but I want no parts of it. None of us do, but I'm probably the only one that will be highly pissed if someone puts one near me for a pic. I can't stop them from roaming around if I'm there, but hopefully they don't bother you unless prompted. And I certainly won't be doing any prompting. lol. Can I ask how far in advance you reserved Carambola's and do you still have the contact information?

The monkeys are coming down from the forest. No one is carrying them. Yes, the bar is feeding them but they are still wild.

  4. Hello. We (me and my 8 year old twins) will be back in Barbados in March. The previous two times we have gone to the Boatyard which has been great. However, no seaglass! This time I want us to do something different (that is, find seaglass - haha). Any recommendations? I know tons of beaches have seaglass like Brandons, Paynes, Glitter Bay, Mullins, Gibbes, etc. but wanted to get recommendations from the experts. Also, if you know the cost of a taxi to your recommendation that would be great. Thanks!

  5. I asked for a refund (over $1000) over a month ago and still nothing. I've called at least ten times, there is never a supervisor available and the don't return messages. I got my credit card company involved. And suddenly a supervisor was available. He was extremely rude, said he'd send a check but alas, still no refund.

  6. If I could give a company zero stars I would. Do not, DO NOT under any circumstances use this company. Their customer service team including supervisors are extremely rude and have taken over a month to issue a refund. At this point, given their lack of professionalism, I doubt I will ever see a refund.

  8. Thanks for the quick response! That was our plan!! Also read there was some north of the pier below the fort. Does that make sense?! Is it true? How far is it from the ship? (I'll have my 73 year old mom and 7 year old twins in tow.)

  9. Hello. I'm going to be in San Juan on August 2 with my 7 year old twins. I'm looking for some interested parties to join us in searching for seaglass at the beach across from the Capitol on Sunday, August 2. It is a short walk from the cruise terminal. Low tide looks to be around 4:00 p.m. so I was thinking we would try to go from 2-4 p.m. (but am flexible on time). Please let me know if you are interested as I don't want to go alone! It is a no cost activity and you could end up with free souvenirs!!

  10. Hello. I will be in Barbados on August 5th with my seven year old twins. I was thinking of Payne's Beach for the turtles, swimming, snorkeling and looking for seaglasss (and we will need a place to eat). Is this a good choice? With only one ship in port and off season, will there be someone there to take us to see the turtles? Cost? Cost of taxi? Is it safe?

I'm open to other suggestions (we are doing Calabazza next year when my mom is along)

    Thanks!

  11. Hello. I'm going to be stopping in St. Thomas with my seven year old twins on August 3rd. I was thinking of going to Brewer's Beach as we just want to swim, snorkel and look for shells and sea glass. Is this beach safe for a mom with two little ones? What would a taxi cost? (I've read $7 per person each way.). Will the food trucks be there at that time of year?

I'm open to other suggestions. (We were at Sapphire Beach last year.)

  12. Hello. I will be traveling with my seven year old twins. We are just starting to get into seaglass collecting but basically love meandering on the beach and doing some near shore snorkeling. I'm sure we won't even need loungers as the kids are go go go.

I've read that Kimsha Beach, the beach in front of Karakter & Mary's Boon (Simpson Bay) and the area in front of Coral Breeze (Burgeaux Bay) may have some seaglass. Can anyone confirm?

Also, we want to go to Maho Beach and see the planes land.

What's the best plan of attack? We don't want to spend a ton of money on taxis but some money is fine. I think realistically we can walk from Mary's Boon to Maho Beach and then back to Burgeaux Bay but we've never been there so maybe that is just crazy. (Obviously we would have missed Kimsha Beach.)

We are in port from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on a Saturday and we (okay, one of the twins) is a very early riser. We will be ready to go first thing!

  13. Yep, went about a week ago and we encountered a man with a club that did not look friendly. He continued to follow us as we quickly retreated. He didn't try to catch us or hurt us but it seemed clear to us that we were to get off of the beach. Later, I talked to a police officer and she said many people on that beach were on drugs and we shouldn't go down there.

  14. We went to the beach by the federal building about a week ago. It was about 7:30 in the morning and the tide was high. I was with my 73 year old mom and 6 year old twins. Just a little ways down the beach, I see a man with a club in his hand and he looked a bit crazed. He was dressed in a polo and khakis but was glaring at us and didn't look friendly. We freaked out and quickly headed back to the stairs. He continued to follow us all the way up to the plaza. He didn't run after us but he was making it clear he did not want us on that beach. On the stairs we meet four other female cruisers ranging in ages from 20s to 50s. They agreed he looked crazy and the 8 of us just got out of there. I later spoke to a local woman and a female police officer. First, they laughed we were interested in sea glass! Second, they said many of the people on that beach were on drugs and we should just stay away. I can't imagine if he had come up behind us once we were on the beach as there is only one path out and the sand was less than 10 feet between the wall and the water. Yikes!

  15. Hello. I'm traveling with my 73 year old mother and nearly 7 year old twins. My mom and I want to jewelry shop but I also want to go to Sapphire Beach. Our boat docks at 11 and the sun sets at 6. The boat does not leave until midnight as Journey is playing a concert on the boat that night (which I will be attending). So, is it an okay plan to shop from 11-2, go to Sapphire until sunset and then head back? I'm open to suggestions!
