  1. Bumping this topic back up. Any new information? My wife read elsewhere that many of the specialty restaurants were 100%  booked online in advance and were unavailable for booking onboard. Since you can't book in advance  with a dining package do the hold tables for booking onboard for those with a package?  Also does anyone know if all the venues are available on the package? Eden, La Petite Chef?

    Thanks

  2. After thinking about it and seeing how quickly some of the ports are coming back, I think it is an IT thing also. It is really far in advance to be changing the itinerary. I think all the ports will do everything possible to be open as quickly as they can. The cruises are a huge source of income for the ports and they certainly need the income desperately. As far as the service, it surely has nothing to do with propulsion as the Liberty would have to travel at near full speed to get to Nassau in one sailing day.

  3. I actually think something else may be going on. I think Liberty is being bumped off all her Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel routes to make room from rerouted ships from Florida that were going to do the Eastern Caribbean route. We are booked on the Feb 11, 2018 sailing and if you go to book that sailing you get a box saying the itinerary has changed to 3 nights in Nassau! Haven't received an email yet but looks like this may not be an error on the website like I thought. Every sailing sailing that was to have done this route through Feb that I checked is now showing Nassau if you select the cruise to book. Shows the original route until you actually select it. The alternate weeks are still going to Grand Cayman Cozumel and Falmouth.

  4. We just returned from Serenade yesterday and used Machu Picchu Tours for cruise parking. Highly recommend them! Car was parked in a secure indoor warehouse with prompt and friendly shuttle transport to and from the port. Google Machu Picchu Tours New Orleans.

  5. I have sailed with Polly a couple times and will only say that I have seldom seen anyone who loves cruising and Royal Caribbean more than Polly. Her excitement about cruising is infectious. She is not a "whiney" person, so I was surprised to see this post. I think she is just pointing out that cruising on RCCL has changed, especially in the MDR, and not for the better. We all notice it, at least those who have sailed for a number of years. Some of us accept the changes as the price of keeping fares low. Some have chosen the option of the specialty restaurants. Some are looking to other lines. Some of us choose to take the effort to point it out to RCCL in hopes that they will stop the cutbacks and maybe even reverse some of the changes. I think that is where Polly is coming from.

For me the excellent service on the rest of the ship and the design of the ships keeps me coming back, but I must admit that the MDR food and staff cutbacks become more noticeable. Dining in the MDR Is no longer one of the highlights of the cruise like it once was.

We have taken the specialty restaurant option, choosing to eat there about half the evenings. The quality of food and service there is what we used to experience in the dining room year ago. On our cruise last June, on one of the evenings we ate in the dining room, I too found nothing that really appealed to me on the new menu, so I ordered the Chops filet (excellent). Would have never even thought of this in years past. Guess that's what RCCL wants us to do :o.

  6. Johnny O made the Monarch Of the seas. Professional in every way. Not one of the rah rah boys that we saw on the Mariner last year, We looked forward to seeing him on the shows Best on any cruise line we have sailed vincluding the Crystal Symphony. He was a delight to talk with also. Very intelligent person. Wish we could find out where he is now. The BEST

See my post above - JohnnyO is now on the Jewel of the Seas!!

  7. I was on the Jewel in October, and again in January, and Joff Eaton is amazing, as is the rest of his staff - very funny and friendly. For that matter, every crew member on the Jewel was great. I think that this is the friendliest crew that I have encountered.

We were on the Jewel 3/13 to 3/23 and had read before the cruise that JohnnyO would be taking over from Joff Eaton and was somewhat disappointed having read how great Joff was. Shouldn't have been concerned. JohnnyO turned out to be one of my favorite cruise directors!! He was funny, energetic and very friendly and sincere. We have sailed with many of the favorites listed here, including Ken Rush, James Andrews and Abe Hughes. JohnnyO was great. He is also a very talented musician, playing an Electronic Wind Instrument. He was the headliner show one evening and it was one of the best shows of the entire cruise. If you ever sail with him do not miss his show.

I agree that the entire crew on the Jewel is the friendliest and most helpful we have encountered. The service was excellent and always delivered with a gracious attitude. Couldn't have asked for better. After reading all of the negative posts lately concerning cutbacks, the crew on the Jewel made this cruise one of our best ever, making it easy to overlook no pillow chocolates, etc.

  8. Thanks all for the great memories and pics (keep 'em coming) We sailed the Song of Norway back in 1980 and couldn't believe how beautiful and big she was!! I had almost forgotten about the open air stair to the Vikikng Crown - quite an adventure on a windy night!! Remember the Pool Cafe? It was a little window serving a VERY limited menu near the pool. Hard to believe this grew into the huge Windjammer on today's ships. Speaking of today's ships, I always find it funny when today's Vision and Radiance class ships are referred to as the "small" ships. They are about 4 times the size (by tonnage) of the Song of Norway!!

That ship will always be special to us - it started an ongoing love of cruising and the open ocean.
