Yes, but those are singles/hook-up focused cruises. Not what I am interested in. VTG also lists lower single supplement cruises. There are rarely any 0% though.  One of the reasons I have lately been doing river cruises, where you can find both single cabins and no single supplement rates if booked far enough in advance.

No, they are just special prices for solo travelers.  Interesting you thought it involved something else though!

  2. My two dream destinations. A couple of luxury ships used to call at the Seychelles, but once the piracy issue started in the Indian Ocean, seems no one is there now. I live in California anyway, so the airfare alone would break me. Once upon a time I actually was looking at it, but the airfare was about $4000 (oh yeah, I can afford that...NOT) and it took two days to get there. But these are islands, if I won the lottery, I'd love to see.

  3. Shaman, if you look you can sometimes find one of the smaller ships with a reasonable single supplement. Hm. I think right now that means just the Spirit and Legend, doesn't it! Most often the Caribbean voyages, or maybe a transatlantic will have a better fare. If you have a great travel agent, they can hunt one down for you perhaps.

I think once the larger Seabourn ships are all that are in service, 175% to 200% will be the way it goes.

I remember, back in the day, snagging what I think was the last 110% single supplement ever offered on Seabourn. Ah....memories.

    Good luck!

  4. Good question, why do some cruise lines/travel agents not like solos. I called one of the very nice cruise lines once that was advertising a two for one fare. I think it was even one of the all inclusive lines. I asked them, does your great offer extend to solo travelers? The answer was not just "no", it was an icy, condescending no. I could feel my face turn red with the way the cruise line's rep spoke to me, like I was the bottom of the barrel and of course you are not welcome on our line.

I can't remember what line it was. If I did I'd tell you!

Some cruise lines are really nice to solo travelers. I guess we just have to find them.

  5. Hi, I have a question. After reading all the posts about dancing. I have never done a Cunard cruise, but I'm really interested. I love the formality of the ship, dressing for dinner and all. Anyway, I haven't danced in maybe 20 years and when I did, I didn't know what I was doing then. If you like to dance but are beyond rusty, what are your suggestions before getting on a cruise? Lessons? I'm 62. Slower than I used to be *lol*....but still interested in fun.

    Jane :)

  6. I'm chiming in with most:

    1. No children allowed.

    2. Have MERCY on single travelers....I am now priced off of Seabourn.

    3. No smoking anywhere, please. You can't have smoking in "half of" a room...smoke wafts. Wafts.

I've never been on the larger ships; I sure loved the small ones.

    Fondly,

  7. I call it that since the idea that, if you are not part of a twosome, you just don't belong anywhere in life. I've always found it amusing. How often do you see people in couples, or families, arguing and having trouble with each other on their cruises? I don't know about you, but I see it a lot. I never have that problem.

Also, married women who eye a single woman traveling alone and think I'm after their husband. Yeah, I'm really interested in your 70 year old guy with the plaid shorts and striped top.

  8. I just booked a cruise on the Pride for December. Seabourn offered $250 OBC for my 11 day cruise. Never saw that before! Can I also use a referral coupon? I know it used to be if the travel agency gave you OBC, you couldn't use both. I suppose I could call Seabourn directly, but I just wondered if anyone knew offhand, can you also use a referral (I am a past passenger) when it's Seabourn that gave the OBC? Thanks.

  9. Hi! One of the attorneys in my office has booked a cruise (first time on Seabourn) and I told him about the OBC. If someone has a coupon, email me with your contact info ---- jrockley @ smrh dot com (all together of course) and I will pass along your information to him. He is booked April of 2014. Is it too early to arrange this? Thanks.

  10. It hasn't happened to me on cruises, it's happened to me in airports clearing customs. I took a small plane once from Seattle to British Columbia and when landing, the other people were quickly cleared through while I was told to "sit down". The woman agent looked at me with a frown. I answered a few questions and she let me pass....but as a single woman traveling alone, I am used to all sorts of suspcious looks. It's the state of the world, I'm afraid. Oh, and I'm as white bread looking a person as you can get!

  11. Having an old fashioned sense of style, I find a great number of my cruise fashions on ebay. This is a gown I just acquired. I think I may take a Cunard cruise later in the year, and Cunard is well suited to ball gowns, which I would call this! It's very unusual, and I feel like a Princess in it. It has lots of tulle layers in the skirt which makes it nice and full. Cunard has a "Masquerade ball" on some of their transatlantic cruises.....so I'm looking for a mardi gras type mask with lavender feathers.

The bodice is pale lavender satin, the skirt is a darker lavender. It has pearls and sequin trim on the applique. I've never seen anything like it before.

(If you click on the picture, you can see it a little better, but I could not figure how to make the photo any larger!)

  12. I was sailing on Seabourn. One of my favorite places on their ships is the forward jacuzzi. I was sitting in there having a fine time when two couples stepped in (it's not a very big jacuzzi) and started talking among themselves, completely ignoring me. I tried to join in the conversation but they obviously didn't want me to. I took the hint and left.

That very rarely happens to me; most people are very friendly and inclusive, I've found.

  13. I've booked my first Cunard cruise, a T/A in November of this year. I look at the boards often to see who is saying what about Cunard. I have heard of Pol Acker, and searched to see if anyone described exactly what it was. I have been laughing for ten minutes reading this thread.

Thank you so much for the warning. I was thinking maybe it was like sparkling cider or something.

    Jane

  14. I have sailed with Seabourn four times, and with Silversea once. Although I thought Silversea's ship was nice (the Shadow), I have a real affection for Seabourn's smaller ships, the Pride, Spirit and Legend. I also liked Seabourn's food better. Only 208 passengers on the smaller ships. I love their bow jacuzzi on deck 5....so close to the ocean! And, as someone else mentioned, you will receive printed invitations, left on your door each day, to a "hosted" table every single night when you are traveling solo.

Haven't been on Seabourn in a few years because they are so expensive, but I did find a 150% single supplement on an 11 day cruise to the Caribbean in December and snapped it up. Hard to come by a good solo rate though, these days, and on their larger ships, I think they are 175% or 200%, too rich for my blood.
