  1. Hello,

We will be embarking from Sydney and on the itinerary it has the notation X2, which means check-in from 1:00 to 3:00. Does this mean that if we show up at 11am, when our hotel makes us check-out, we will have to wait until 1:00 to start the check-in process?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hello all. We made the decision to not take the upsell offer. The perks were just not enough (we already feel like we are treated like royalty in a regular cabin) and we didn't want our room to become the focus of our cruise. That being said, if they come back with a ridiculously low offer (more ridiculous than the last one), then we will probably take it.

Thank you for all your input and wisdom. It helped tremendously!

  3. Thanks everyone! Here is an update... though not much of one. We were on a day trip today so did not get time to call. We are discussing it over breakfast tomorrow. If they are sold by then, then it was just not meant to be. Thanks for the heads up about not receiving double mariner points. Right now, the perks we care about the most are priority tendering (3 tender ports) and the floor to ceiling windows. We are usually of the philosophy that a room is merely a place to sleep and shower, and that the real adventure happens outside your hotel room or stateroom. Even so, it is very tempting, especially because there are three of us and the upgrade will only be charged for two of us, bring the average cost down to 400 pp. Ahh! I can't decide! Will have to talk it out tomorrow morning. 😀

  4. Hello,

Yesterday we received an upsell offer via phone call from our TA. It was from an Oceanview to a signature suite for 599.00 pp. Our cruise is about 55 days out. We feel a bit conflicted about our decision. Three questions.

    1. How long is it, usually, before you receive a second offer (when should I give up hoping for a second offer)?

    2. Is it possible to negotiate? For example, they come back with an offer of 499.00 pp and we say we'll take it if they throw in a signature beverage package. Or, we say we'll take it for 450.00.

    3. When we booked, we got 280.00 obc. If we upgrade, will we lose that?

    Thanks everyone!

  5. Hello everyone!

I went on my first cruise last April (it was supposed to be a one time experience but now I'm hooked!) and it took me a few days before I didn't feel kinda nauseous if I sat up for too long. I'm going on another cruise this April and am hoping I still have my sea legs.

I know everyone is different. So, how long have you gone between cruises and still kept your sea legs?

    Thanks!

  6. Hello,

I am going on a land (Australia & New Zealand) and cruise (transpacific) vacation. For a global cell phone service, it looks like Mobal offers a good product at a good price. My home service is verizon.

I contacted Verizon and asked if my phone would handle a GSM SIM (is it unlocked?) and their response was "I took a look through your account and to answer your initial question, your phone is not locked to our network so if you want to use another SIM card from another carrier while traveling abroad you definitely can. Since your phone is designed for our network we cannot guarantee you will get service with another provider but as long as they support your phone you are good to go."

To me, this a tiny bit vague.

Has anyone had experience using an unlocked Verizon phone with a Mobal SIM?

Thank you in advance for any help/insights!

  7. I am so excited that I can barely stand it. I feel like I did when I was a kid waiting for Christmas. We are flying to Tampa tomorrow and boarding the Ryndam on Sunday for a transatlantic cruise.

My first cruise!!! Can't wait to find out what life is like at sea! :)

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for all of the information you have provided over the last few months as I dreamed and waited for our cruise date to come.

    Happy cruising!! :)

  8. Hello all,

After our cruise we are flying from Dublin to Toronto to Chicago to Omaha. We bought this as one ticket from a TA. But, the flight from Dublin to Toronto is on Aer Lingus and the remaining flights are on Air Canada. My question is this. Will we need to claim our luggage and go through customs in Toronto or just Chicago?

    Thanks in advance! :)

  9. Hi everyone,

When we booked our cruise on a big box internet TA it included OBC. They said they would credit our account within 2 weeks of sailing. We leave on Sunday and there is nothing on the HAL website that says we have OBC. Does it show up on the HAL website or will it most only appear once we are onboard?

    Thanks for your help!

  10. Hi everyone! This thread has been very informative! As a newbie (this is my second post and I am preparing for my 1st cruise), I thought the point of a roll call was to set up a M&G so that we could get to know fellow cruisers on the cruise itself. It never occurred to me that we should be socializing in the roll call.

As far as posting personal information, I am very careful. I am not retired and am applying to jobs and graduate school positions. If a potential employer does a search for me I don't want them to easily be able to figure out that I went on such and such a cruise (or on any other leisure activity). Have to manage impressions and all. So, I would be uncomfortable with too much info being out there. I don't think that my travel itinerary would be looked down upon but you never know what a biases a potential employer may have about cruise ship passengers.

Thanks for the insight and I hope this provides some! :)
