  1. We'll be on the Danube Dreams cruise embarking in Budapest (ending in Vilshoven) on 2 May 2024.  Does anyone know what is the earliest we can check-in?  Actually, we don't need to be in our cabins, but we'd like to leave our luggage on board once we arrive in Budapest by train at 0900.  We plan to see the city with friends for the day and to be back on the ship by 1700.

If we aren't able to leave our luggage on board in the morning, I guess our other option is to leave our luggage in storage lockers at the train station.

We are sailing RT from Seattle and don’t plan on getting off at the Canada port at all. Do we still have to fill out the form?

And, what if you haven’t been vaccinated?  HAL will let you sail with a negative test. Will you still be able to sail if the ArriveCAN denies you?

We're embarking on the Westerdam on the 18th and not getting off, however, you still need ArriveCAN to get on whether or not you plan to get off.  ALSO, on HAL's website as they've updated vaccination and testing protocols under what they call Enhanced Protocols.  It appears for Alaska/Canada cruises, people 18/older must have a booster if their initial final Covid dose was over 5 months ago.  I'm currently waiting for a HAL agent to come on chat to confirm this - hope I'm wrong in interpreting the updated protocols. I've attached the Enhanced Protocols here.

I would be interested in this answer as my brother and sister-in-law are on HAL Oct 5 to NE/Canada and have been told they have to have a booster (3rd shot for them overall) to go.

When I saw the Enhanced Protocol document on HAL's website, I too was worried.  We embark on 9/18/22 for Alaska from Seattle and I interpreted the same as you - needing a booster if the last was taken over 5 months ago!

Yup same issue (not recognize my HAL booking #). I was able to add it fine like couple weeks ago but I had to reinstall app and now I get error when adding my booking

On my May Cruise, I was able to add my booking as soon as I made it (so 90 days out) but can't add my September cruise now

Think it's a bug and hope they fix it because the lineup was so much quicker with verifly when I went in May to Alaska

Thanks @gilboman I'll try again in another few weeks!

We had VeriFLY for our June 19 Westerdam/Alaska cruise and were glad we had it!  When we entered the terminal in Seattle, there was a large line for non VeriFLY and no one in line for VeriFLY!  we were checked in in seconds and on our way to the next station prior to boarding...amazing.

We'll be on same cruise in late September! I installed VeriFLY but it won't recognize my booking number on HAL.  How soon did you enter your booking number on the app?  I'm glad you had an easy time using it when boarding!

  6. My daughter is sailing with us on this closed loop cruise to Alaska with her 2 yr old.  Neither have passports, but the Holland America rep I chatted with informed me that she can use her WA state enhanced driver's license and my grandson can use his certified birth certificate for ID in lieu of a passport.  Hoping this is correct, but meanwhile they'll apply for their expedited passports hoping they'll arrive in time for the cruise just in case.

Has anyone cruised on Holland America using other forms of ID instead of a passport?

  7. We are on an Avalon Rhine Cruise from Amsterdam. We are scheduled to meet at the Room Mate Aitana Ijdok 6 Amsterdam 1013 MM prior to boarding the boat. Does anyone know if this is within walking distance from the central are of Amsterdam?

We're going on this cruise in May (6-13, 2018) and disembarking in Basel. Could you (or anyone) please advise what time the cruise boat usually starts the disembarking process? Our itinerary for the morning only lists "disembarkation following breakfast."

This will be our first river cruise so we're very excited. Would love to know your thoughts on your Rhine cruise!

    Thanks!

  8. We used ItalyTours.EU (Classic Amalfi) last November when sailing on Holland Aerica's Veendam. Cristina at ItalyTours.EU was very responsive, organized and reliable during the booking phase, which helped ease our minds about the excursion. She was also a pleasure to deal with and very helpful.

As for the excursion itself, our guide, Mimmo did a wonderful job of giving us a lengthy, but scenic drive along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast with a couple of stops to take photos and a lunch hour (approx. 90 minutes) stop in the town of Amalfi itself. The tour ended with a drive around Naples and back to our ship. We enjoyed Mimmo's charming personality and his knowledge and expertise when he responded to our many questions.

We will definitely book with ItalyTours.EU again in the future when we return!

  9. We used this tour company in June. It was very good. They will custom design a tour for you.

Hi there! My partner and I are very interested in the Game of Thrones tour and trying to decide which tour company to go with. Did you book a group of you for the tour? Is the excursion price based on the number of people in your group? Was the meeting place within easy walking distance? Thanks in advance!

  10. Hi there, did anyone here on this thread catch the bullet train from Tianjin to Beijing for just the day? We are considering it, but are worried about making it back to the ship on time for sailaway. The first day in port we're going to see the Great Wall and this would be for the second day. We've been told by Chinese friends to avoid rush hour because the traffic is horrendous.

  11. You might contact Green Tomato to see if they will have buses on the routing you want. We used them to go from Narita to Tokyo pre cruise and then used them from Tokyo to the Yokohama Cruise Terminal. Note that this is the company that Viator contracts with. This might not be the cheapest way to get from Haneda to Yokohama and then to Narita, but for six of us with a lot of luggage it was the most convenient. It's possible to take trains, but not very easy with luggage.

Thank you for the suggestion and link to Green Tomato!

  12. Going on a cruise embarking and disembarking from Yokohama port. We (party of 3, 2 adults and 1 child of 12) will be arriving into the Haneda airport and flying from Narita.

Just wanted to know if anybody has any experience on:

    1) Going from Haneda airport to Yokohama cruise port

Thinking of doing the YCAT, but I heard there is also the express train. Any thoughts will be faster, easier, or cheaper?

Time is really not an issue since we're supposed to arrive at 6 in the morning, so we have ample time to go to the port.

    2) Going from Yokohama cruise port to Narita airport

Any thoughts on this one. We won't be leaving till 7 or so in the evening.

    Thank you

    Hi there,

I was wondering since no one replied to your question, what you and famili ended up doing for transportation from Haneda to Yokohama? Did you catch the express train?

    Thanks!

    Judy

  13. There is little need to have a tour of GW. We rented a van with driver that accommodated 12 with stop off at Summer palace for 1200 RMB or about $15 US per person. There are a number of car rental companies but we used Robert. They all have competitive prices. Do not look up tour companies, car rental companies instead. Robert didn't even require a deposit. The drivers do not speak english so you would need to have any communicarions written down in Chinese. Their dispatcher, Benny, speaks excellent english and will instruct the driver of your wishes. We usedHthem to take us to Temple of Heaven and on to the Bullet train to Tangu(the closest station to Tainjin port). They sent an Audi and for three hours we paid 200 RMB. Saved us a lot of time and hassle. It worked out great because we checked out of the hotel went on a tour, left our bags in the car. The driver returned and took us to the train. Excellent use of time with no hassle!!!

Marty - hope you see this as I read your very helpful post on visiting GW. I like your suggestion about not hiring a tour company, but rather a driver and car instead. Would you mind emailing me the contact information to this Robert you mentioned? My email addy is jmajifu at gmail dot com. Many thanks!

  14. I will be in Oman through cruise ship and will stop at Salalah and Muscat, I am trying to book my shore excursions their , Any one used Oman Day tours from their ?

Anita75, we are also stopping in Muscat and Salalah in 2016 (Rotterdam). We have booked with Oman Day Tours for an excursion in Salalah because of the outstanding reviews it has received by Cruise Critic cruisers :D. They responded quickly to my initial email and follow up questions and we anticipate a terrific excursion!
