  1. Can a veteran traveler to Rome tell me how to get from the cruise port to our hotel in Rome that is right near the Trevi fountain by train?A private transfer costs 75 euros, but would like to attempt the train if it is not too much of a hassle.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. It was wonderful and in no way did we feel unsafe or uncomfortable while traveling. We did notice the refugee population especially in Cologne.

But had no feelings of being unsafe.

Thanks to all who encouraged us to go...

  3. Took your advice...booked everything through Viking...they could not have been more helpful and re booked us on a delta flight through Amsterdam then on to Budapest...just about the same flight times...Thank you again.

  4. Thank you for all your opinions and replies...

We are new to river cruising...not new to traveling as we have traveled to Egypt China and other countries in years past...

We have not experienced the "in your face" threat levels before. I truly wanted others opinions on how they feel..

Your opinions helped me say...of course we should go...and I started my packing again...feeling a bit relieved..as family were giving us grief on going.

As of today we are still leaving Tuesday...but now we are faced with a air France cabin crew strike that may alter that.....

    Will go with the flow...

    For everyone that posted...thank you...

For the couple doing the Grand European now...would love to hear your feedback!

  5. We are booked on Viking Grand European tour Budapest to Amsterdam

Departing August 5th. We have a pre cruise stay in Budapest 2 days.

With everything that has happened in this area...Germany Bavaria...needless to say we are nervous and apprehensive.

We want to go...but is it the smart thing right now...

We are lucky enough to have "cancel for any reason" insurance through Vikings promotion back in January.

Can Experenced river cruises lend me your opinion....this is our first river cruise.

  6. Thanks for your reply...

Do you feel the optional tours enhanced your trip...

Or did you see others not doing optionals and not missing them.

The reason for my question is that I have taken some land tours and did all the optionals and came home exhausted..

But again I don't want to miss exceptional excursions.

If you don't do optionals...what are you doing?

I will read over the optional tours you took. We already did book the Rothenburg tour on another's advice. We are also probably going to do the concert and the Cologne pub tour.

I thank everyone who has experience with river cruising for their opinions. This is our first.

  7. Booked for early August Viking Budapest to Amsterdam. We Have Vikings cancel for any reason insurance. Have the recent terrorist attacks made you feel like you should reconsider travel to Europe at this time? Just looking for other more experienced traveler opinions. This is our first river cruise. Thanks

  8. Close to booking this tour for August 2016.

Can some experienced river cruisers give me some advice on this cruise..Viking cruise line..air plus experiences from JFK.

Viking running a cancel for any reason promotion for bookings 1/8 to 1/30

    Does anyone have prior experience.

This would be our first Viking river cruise.

    Thanks

  9. In theory, yes, it is a flight you could make if you have your boarding passes already printed and you only have carry-on luggage. The problem, here, is that you have to wait for Customs to clear the ship, then you need to be one of the first in line. I was on a Liberty cruise where Customs didn't clear until after 8AM. The taxi ride is only minutes from the airport. Assuming you have no delays and, again, you are first to check your bags if they need checking. Then there is the miserable security line that can easily extend way back and, remember, these are not business travelers who know the system. I've seen these lines bog down pretty quickly after a cruise. Any delay and you will miss your flight. You only have 1 1/2 hours from the time the ship docks. Why would you want to end a perfectly wonderful cruise by adding unneeded stress to it? I can't speak for you but every little "bump" in the process would drive me crazy. That said, if you choose the early flight to save a few bucks, I wish you all the luck in the world. You may need it.;)

Absolutely right...don't need the stress. Thank you all for your advice. It was exactly what I was looking for. Will probably fly southwest there Jet blue back because of the flight times. Thanks again

  10. Returning on the Oasis 3/29. it says 615 am on the itinerary.

Best time and price for a flight leaves Ft Lauderdale at 745 am. is it realistic that I might be able to make this flight? the other times are either expensive

    or have layovers.

just asking for people who may have done this before...thanks

  11. Have been on smaller ships. This is the first time on a mega ship.

Booked Central Park balcony 11645. Can you fill me in on what to expect?

Any must know tips? How far is the port from the airport and what is the best way to get there. Thanks in advance.

    Susan
