  1. We are actually thinking that cruise in early 2019. Taking a trip to

Thailand on the Star Clipper this Feb. Did the Star Flyer in the Carribean 2016. This sailing will be much different for you than the large Windstar Ships. Only 170 paasengers and no frills.

Book early to get deals. Go to the Star Clippers website and hit

FIND DEALS to get an idea of prices, dates and itineraries.

    Good Luck....

  2. Would love to hear how the cruise was Aeros Em. Did you board by tender in Patong? We are booked for next January on a Phuket round trip northwards. Will be our 5th cruise on Star Clippers.

Booked for phuket round trip feb 3 - 10 and 10- 17. Northern and Southern leaving from Patong. Maybe we will be shipmates

  3. We were on a Clipper sailing ship...so our experience was a little different. Everyone covered the important points....here is a couple minor hints. Remember, this was Star Flyer...a sailing ship with only 170 passengers capacity.

    * Can't stress the don't over pack. It takes two days for clothes to dry in the cabin. However, I did the chore everyday of washing a couple things...and it worked out fine. We brought carry on for a three week Carribean Cruise, and it worked out fine.

    * After you pay off the cruise, put money in your account for ship credit. Takes the stress off how much money is going on that credit card for drinks and excursions. If you have leftover ( don't forget to budget in gratuity), treat yourself to some souvenirs.

    * Yes, research the ports and excursions in advance. Look at reviews. You will get more out of the trip having a better understanding of your destinations. Also, book excursions with the trip. If something happens, the ship won't leave without you.

    * Bring conditioner and extra lotion.

    * Ladies...long dresses are more comfortable for the sailing cruise. It gets windy...and a dress gently blowing in the wind looks appealing.

    * Since there is a variety of nationalities, bring a full piece bathing suit and bikini. Some passengers are very conservative.

    * Yes..arrive a day early. Rest up. Depart a couple days after the cruise is over. Enjoy the port..and gives you time to decompress.

  4. Thanks for your reply. I met magnetic clips, not metal. The magnet has to go on the metal walls. The suggested hanging bags, and drying clothes with the clips attached to the wall.

As we get closer, maybe I can connect with the couple you know going on the ship.

Another question....that net hanging from the long beam in the front of the ship ( you can see my husband is the sailor).......who difficult is it to climb on the net? Looks tricky.....but a lot of fun to be hanging over the water.

    Thanks again for your input.

  5. At last....I found someone who has experienced the Star Flyer! Thanks for your response. If you don't mind, I have a few questions....

I am excited the Rafting trip is listed as an excursion. We do plan to experience this unique ride on wooden rafts. The remaining Itineraries do not seem appealing. We were hoping snorkeling would be available. My husband likes to sail. One of the websites advertised small sailboats being available. Do you know anything about the water sports?

Have you met fellow passengers ( perhaps been in contact) who may be going in 2016? Please forward my e-mail: Justlikehome64 gmail.com

Did you purchase transfers? My agent is not able to get a price for transfers this early. What was the price? I was thinking of taking a cab from Montego Bay to the port in Jamaica. Any thoughts?

We do plan to participate in the last excursion, a small tour of St. Maarten. We will be staying in Grand Case for three days after the cruise. I thought we would just hop off the tour in Grand Case. Are you familiar with St. Maarten's transportation system?

What to wear...always a question. Do they require long pants for men at dinner? How is the food?

Here comes the silliest.....are the walls on the ship made of metal? Someone had a suggestion to purchase metal clips.

Thanks for your help....or anyone that reads this post.

Tina ( and Steve...although he doesn't write posts)
