  1. I was on Seaview in the Med, Internet was patchy. Although my wife did upgrade to the streaming package and it seemed more stable than the standard included browsing package.

I found myself switching between 4/5G when in port and the Wi-Fi. But it never seemed stable enough consistently on one type

Bumper ... Can you not transfer the booking to 2022 ? MSC would not refund the 25% that was added to your latest booking anyway, I am guessing that there is still a balance outstanding of £2,500 for your cruise by the way you have written your post ? It might be worth asking the citizens advice or contacting ABTA to see what they say.

    Thanks for the reply...

I could transfer, but that means they would have had 2.7 k of my money for nearly 3 years. And we have another seperate booking for the carribean we have to move as well.

To clarify for your other question. I do have an outstanding balance of 2.5k on top of the 2.7k I have already paid.

I am aware you do not get the 125% bonus refunded.

So really I am expecting 2.5k after losing the 200 quid deposit. It just seems a little unfair that I have tried to stay loyal to MSC and it is costing me 200 quid for the pleasure.

I may chance my arm to see if I can get 200 quid credit once I get my refund. Just seeing if anyone else has tried something similar.

Or do we just swallow the loss?

  3. My final payment was due for a med cruise. As a UK cruiser, it still seems unlikely we would be able to go and I don't want to comit another 2.5k to the bank of MSC with the risk we won't be able to go, so then it means our main option would be to book another cruise for next year.

The thing is, this booking was made from a cancelled Med cruise last year, where we paid the final payment and MSC had our cash of 2.7k. We took the option of the 125% uplift and booked for this October.

So as I said rather than comit  even more money, I have chosen to cancel with loss of deposit. Which is the best worst scenario.

My problem, is this seems a little disengenuous. We could have cancelled last year for a full refund, but because we rebooked and loaned MSC 2.7k for another 18 months, we now have to pay 300 quid for the privelege.

Has anyone had any success in getting a full refund in this scenario? Is it worth chasing? Even if I just get a travel voucher?

    Thanks

I booked a 2021 cruise recently using FCC and was denied the current Voyagers  5% +5% +OBC +double point promo. I was told it is for new bookings only which is totally bogus and contrary to promo terms posted on MSC website. I now have to take my case up with MSC dispute resolution department. What a pain.

I have just done this with FCC and got the 5+5, OBC etc.....

I booked from the UK though so don't know if the T&Cs are the same

So, our family has been loyal to Royal (Caribbean) for several years and love the Oasis class ships, but after doing some research, I feel like we just can't beat the value of staying in the yacht club.  We've stayed in a suite on Disney cruise line and were very happy with it, but suites are not typically in our budget.  We've never cruised on MSC, so I have a lot of questions that I can't seem to find good answers for here.  We've just booked a two week Caribbean cruise on the Seaside in late May/early June, and I am so excited!  I cannot wait to try out the YC!   Any help you can give this planner (affectionately called the "cruise director" by her family) would be greatly appreciated!

    1) Do you have to pay for the specialty restaurants (besides the YC one)?  If so, are there any discounts for YC?

    2) Are any of the amusement activities (zip line, bowling, etc.) included or do we need to buy packages for them?

    3) Will MSC reach out to me at some point before the cruise to set things up or ask about our preferences or will we just need to wait until we get onboard?  I only ask because the Disney concierge team emails you a couple of months ahead of time to start working on your plans.

    4) How is the internet onboard?  If we are going to be gone for two full weeks, my husband will need to check in on work a few times.  Is that included in YC or should we pre-buy the premium internet package?

    5) If anyone has cruised recently, how is the dress for teenage boys, particularly on formal nights?  I've seen a few different answers, and I know my son would love it if he could wear shorts most nights, with the exception of something nicer on formal nights.  I would expect we will eat most of our meals in the YC restaurant, based on all of the wonderful reviews I've been reading.

I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go, but this will help get me started.  Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Just to add, if you are on a B2B, which is the 14 night cruise, you can get a coupon for 20% off for the specialty restaurants on the Miami port day - Day 8

We took advantage of that, as the YC restaurant effectively repeats for the second week

We also found the Wi-Fi to be good enough to stream video (although expensive) if that is any indication

Speaking of Chocolate Martinis I have developed my own recipe for an amazing Chocolate/Espresso Martini.  Start with about 2-3 ounces (depending on your taste) of freshly brewed espresso (it can be done with powdered espresso mix but its not as good) which should be chilled.  To that add about 3 ounces of vodka (no need to use expensive vodka) 1 1/2 ounces of Kahlua,  and 3/4 ounce of Creme de Cocao.  Use a chilled (best in the freezer) large martini glass and make a nice design with chilled Hershey's Chocolate (this is the art part).   Shake the mix and pour into your chocolate coated martini glass and you are ready to rock.   I have had lots of fun experimenting with variations on the formula.  If you are a heavy coffee/espresso drinker you should go heavy on the espresso.  For those that do not like coffee you might want to cut the espresso back to an ounce.  But having some espresso helps complement the chocolate and avoids having the drink become sickening sweet.

I too am a fine purveyor of chocolate martini's.......and I am afraid I have to disagree with your comment about not having to use expensive vodka........and I raise you:

Thank you for the updates!! Much appreciated. Since you enjoyed “chocolate martini no. 2” best, I imagine you may get another during your cruise...and if so, would you please share the name of it as (I’m only guessing) it probably has some sort of fancy name!

Nope its name is Chocolate Martini No 2

  8. Just off the Seaside,

I ordered a Chocolate Martini at the Venchi Chocolate bar and was charged.

The server was as surprised as I was and was insistent it was a mistake.

I spoke to the YC concierge and she said she was getting additional reports of charges, and so she had sent an email to HO.

They didn't get back to me directly, but I managed to get the charge reversed. The next day there was a sign saying additional charges at Venchi apply

So it seems the staff on the ship can't keep track of the changes.

As we were charged, I didn't chance my arm with Crepes, but I have second hand experience on the gelato still being included.
