  1. Thanks for the info everyone. As far as I can tell, the Grammy experience was replaced by Fat Cats in 2015 but I haven't seen any info on it since then so I'm just trying to figure out if Fat Cats is still on the Getaway because even NCL don't advertise it anywhere. My family love jazz so it would be a real selling point for booking the Getaway.

  2. Hi there,

Just wondering, is every eating place included in the gala nights on board? or are there places that aren't included? What I really want to know, is there any possible way of avoiding having to wear formal wear on the gala nights without ending up going hungry?

Surely somewhere like the lido buffet would be excluded from insisting on formal wear on gala nights?

I don't want to end up being excluded from eating because of a dress code. We are on a 12 day Asian cruise on Voldendam so that means three gala nights as far as I'm aware?

  3. Yep they do indeed have soft serv, vanilla, chocolate and a mix of the two. A few machines throughout the buffet and two at the outdoor buffet. Also, only some of them have a sprinkles dispenser beside them so your daughter will definitely want to find those ones;) I am not 100% sure but I think they switch the machines on in the buffet at 11am. They also have a regular ice cream bar in the buffet which has more options for flavours.

  4. There were seven in our group so we did a mini van tour in Livorno and Rome. Totally worth it and would definitely recommend. Your driver will drop you off for a certain amount of time at each tourist spot and viewpoints. And then bring you back to the cruise ship in plenty of time. I found it much easier than finding our own way around, and we got to see so much because of this. Well worth the money.

We went to Pompeii in Naples. Bus station is very close to the cruise port, and then train back down afterwards.

I also agree with everyone else about the beach, the beach in Cannes is lovely. And otherwise there isn't a huge amount of site seeing to do in Cannes. There is a lovely viewpoints high up in the town and there are some lovely little markets and shops but that is about it. So that would be a great day for a beach day.

  5. I was also looking for the same thing for my summer cruise. When I go to the booking section on my NCL account the only show that comes up for booking is the Brat Pack. So I assume that means that there haven't been any other shoes confirmed for the summer months yet?

  6. My apologies, I should have clarified. Teppinyaki and Moderno have 'Price: $0.00' written beside them, and Cagney's, La Cucina and Le Bistro have 'Price: A La Carte' written beside them. Surely the first two couldn't be free, as they are speciality restaurants? I thought all five of these restaurants were supposed to be A la carte (but still included in the SDP).

  7. Hi there, trying to book restaurants for my summer cruise and I have the speciality dining package booked. On the booking section some of the other restaurants have (0) written beside them and Cagney's has 'A la Carte' written beside it. Can anyone tell me for sure that Cagney's is still an option on the speciality dining package? Or another explanation for why Cagney's would say that beside it while the other speciality restaurants say (0). Thanks

  8. I'm also travelling on the Escape for the first time this summer and am also slightly concerned about crowding. From what I've read it seems that the sun deck is quite busy all of the time. Not sure if people are over exaggerating or not about it.

  9. Both European and American plug sockets are on the Epic.

We didn't have much difficulty finding loungers in the pool area. It was busy at certain times but usually only around the bar area. However we might just have been lucky with the times we happened to be out on deck.

Also H2O is a lovely area. Really quiet because it's adults only, plently of seating (tiered), has it's own bar and a small pool to cool off in as well as two hot tubs. It's definitely woth visiting regardless of how busy it is in the main pool area. Enjoy!

  10. Seems that everyone has answered your questions perfectly. But if you want even more detail then go onto youtube and type in 'NCL Epic balcony cabin'. There are loads of detailed videos about the cabins and a few specifically on deck eight as well.

This one is quite detailed on the storage/safe/fridge which you were interested in.

  11. Ship - EPIC (June 2015)

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9281

Stateroom Category – BE Balcony stateroom

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Very quiet. Near to aft of ship so not many people passing by our door. Staterooms above and below so couldn't hear any noise from restaurants etc.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View – Can't fully remember where the lifeboats were. We could see them from our balcony but they did not block the view at all. Looking down, you can see part of the level 8 balconies, but very little. Very nice view overall.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal sized balcony. This was an open top balcony so we did have some issues with rubbish like cigarette butts being dropped from the balconies above. So it meant the balcony got a bit messy. But otherwise, great for getting direct sunlight most of the day.

Was wind a problem? - No

Any specific problems with this cabin? - No

Any other comments? - Nice cabin. Sofa was beside the balcony door so plenty of space for moving around the cabin. Very near to stairs/elevators.

  12. I have been looking at apps for this very purpose. Do you recall which one you used and if so how would you rate it?

    Thanks in advance

    Rochelle

I'm sorry, I don't remember which one it was we used. But I do remember it was just one of the selection of apps on the google playstore so there is definitely plenty of choice. I'd say you'll just have to dwonload a few to test out before you go to see if you like any one in particular.

  13. The Sagrada Famillia is incredible. Such a beautiful place. I travelled with my fiancée and family June 2015 on the Epic. We bought our entrance tickets online and were glad we did because we walked straight in. The queues were really long when we arrived at about 10am.

But we didn't pay for the guided tour. We just downloaded a tour app on our phones and brought earphones with us, which meant a free tour.

So my suggestion is to download (on wifi ;) and try out a few guided tour apps beforehand and see if you like them and then you can decide whether you want to go with that or pay for the guided tour on the day.

Some of the apps cover different sites in Barcelona as well so it's really handy.

    Have a great holiday :)

  14. Hi there,

First post so I hope this is allowed.

I know some people are interested in finding out information about specific staterooms, especially on the Escape, since it's new.

My last cruise was on the Epic in June and I found it really helpful to have seen photos of the room I was going to be staying in.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where people can ask questions about specific room numbers and anyone can throw in whatever information or photos they can give.
