  1. Ship - Getaway

    Deck - 10

    Stateroom # - 10706

    Stateroom Category – Haven

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes, for the most part. You could hear water through pipes occasionally but nothing that was too crazy.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – The balcony was the same size as a standard balcony for a regular balcony room, except there was a part that was enclosed that you could fit your chair into if you wanted to get out of the sun or something, otherwise it was a normal balcony. It was cool though, you could see the bridge from the balcony and occasionally could see some of the captains and crew.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal compared to other balconies; probably small considering it was part of the Haven

Was wind a problem? - Not really.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? - One of the days was extremely rough seas and we definitely felt the effects from it. But honestly, we just left our room and went to the middle of the ship (like most people seemed to be doing). On regular days though, it was fine.

Any other comments? - The room was fantastic!! Having the front window was so cool! The bathroom was ginormous and everything was just great. Would definitely consider staying in this room again...if we ever have the money :)

  2. Hey Everyone...we just got married on The Getaway in January and thought I would share a few things! Overall, the wedding was amazing! There were some hiccups along the way, but I was the complete opposite of a bridezilla so they didn't really faze me. After all...we're getting married on a cruise, how bad could life be?!

Some of the things to note:

    - RCL is completely unhelpful. You pick the package you want and that's it. They cannot change anything for you or really help you with anything. Don't get me wrong, they are very nice to work with, but it's frustrating that they have no pull. What you get is what you get.

    - The photographers on the Getaway were amazing!!! This was the part that I was the most nervous about. Our wedding was the first full day of the cruise so I literally met the photographer less than 24 hours before the wedding. I had no idea how the pictures would come out and I was so nervous they would be awful. Boy did they prove me wrong!! We have Reggie Relova on the Getaway and he was awesome!! His manager, Natasha (sp?) was also great! Reggie was like an ninja getting some of the shots he did. I swear, I didn't even see him throughout the ceremony and reception but looking through the pictures he must have been right there. I'll share some of the pictures so you have an idea. Basically, I just want to calm down any other brides there about the quality of pictures...they are great!

    - We had 24 people all together for our wedding. Of those, 2 were children and 3 of them were non-drinkers...the rest had the UBP. They were going to charge us per person for everyone for the open bar. Thank god I spoke up and said they had the UBP which saved us $400. Make sure to check in about this as RCL has no idea who on your guestlist has the UBP because they are not Norwegian.

If you have any questions about weddings aboard an NCL ship, please feel free to reach out to me! I just lived it :) I know there's not a lot of info on them out there from people so I'm happy to help!

  3. Hi there! Thank you so much for offering your services :)

We are getting married on The Getaway in January and they just sent us the location of where the ceremony will take place. They said it was a deck on Deck 17. I think this a sun deck that is toward the front of the ship, but I can't quite remember from our cruise last year.

If you could, would you mind investigating for me? If you take pictures, that would be even better!

It's hard planning a wedding when you can't visit the site!

    Thanks again!

  4. The weather was hot so we wanted to enjoy our unlimited beverage package, unfortunately, the lines were so long that it took an hour to get a drink! To me, this is unacceptable! To stand in line for an hour just to get one drink because Norwegian won’t staff appropriately is offensive, the last thing I want to do on a beach is wait in line for over an hour for a watered down beverage.

some people just like to complain. help yourself next time! i'm assuming you were on Great Stirrup Cay. If you would have walked just a bit you would have found a few more bars much less crowded. however, it sounds like you didn't explore the island at all and stayed right where everyone else was. if you would have walked to the end of the island you would have found a near private bar to enjoy.

truly i don't know how people can complain so much when you're in the beautiful Caribbean.

  5. We are currently booked on the Getaway Forward Facing Penthouse in the Haven (H7) for our wedding/honeymoon cruise in January. Of course I check NCL's site obsessively for prices and changes almost daily. It looks like all of the Forward Facing Penthouses are sold out already and in it's place is an option for Haven Guarantee. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Has anyone taken this gamble before? Since it's H7, it's the cheapest option already which means it can only get better.

    What are your thoughts?

  6. You'll need to bring your own towel. We laid our towels out on some lounge chairs in the morning and then went on our kayaking excursion. When we came back, somebody had moved our towels and taken our spot :( We didn't realize how big of an issue this was until we found out there were no extra towels on the island.

The island is bigger than it seems at first. My advice if you have teens with you is to not be afraid of walking a bit further. There's a main area right near the ship that has the biggest location for food. However, if you keep walking down you'll find another food station and a bar with a really nice alcove to hang out near.

They have tubes and floaters that you can rent (for a pretty penny of course) and they have activities throughout the day.

    GSC is awesome :)

  7. how close is this to a fogo in regards to quality? i have to say at the salad bar the only thing i wanted is prosciutto there and the only meat i wanted was the filet

i could skip all the rest :)

i've never been to one on land, but I will say that it was my favorite meal of the entire cruise. the meat was some of the best meat i had and the salad bar was awesome. i shouldn't have filled up so much on the salad bar because all of the selections were awesome!

  8. I made the mistake of filling up at the salad bar before my meal. I am definitely a carnivore though and appreciated the meat. The salad bar was great, but I'm not sure if it would be enough to be considered a full meal if people aren't going to eat any meat.

  9. I believe the studio cabin size variance is by ship not within a ship. On Getaway, they are all the same size - 99sq ft.. I would pick one that didn't have a connecting door.

hmm...if you had someone you liked enough to have a connecting door with, why would you get a studio in the first place...

  10. Plus, a magician just isn't that interesting.

It's too bad you skipped the Illusionarium! It was a really fun show :) Still not sure how they did some of the tricks! It's pretty impressive actually because the audience wraps around most of the stage, so if you're using trap doors, you have a lot more angles to hide it from. We really enjoyed it.

  11. If going H7, avoid the rooms directly under the bridge (On BA/GA, it's deck 13).

Those rooms (both) have an enclosed balcony ...

    attachment.php?attachmentid=352514&d=1434559008

...and one of them (13106) is a HC room that is actually 1 large room, not 2 separate rooms.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for sharing this information! That is major details that aren't available on their website. It looks like Deck 13 is the only one available for our cruise :( I'm going to call my cruise consultant at NCL and see if they just don't list everything on the site and try and get another suite. Fingers crossed!

  12. I was in a forward facing room on the getaway in October 2014 and loved it. I don't think the spa room is worth the extra price as the room is soo much smaller. If I could afford it I would get the forward facing suite each cruise ( I got an awesome deal in 2014).

That's what we were thinking. Plus, my fiance loves the idea of a sitting area separated from the bedroom. The only thing that bums me out is that we loved sleeping with the slider open so we could hear the water...but I guess I can get over that!

What deck were you on? Any Haven secrets I should know? We would never spend this much on a room if it wasn't for such a special occasion...so we want to make the most of everything!

  13. We will be on the Getaway Forward Facing in Jan 2016. This will be our first forward facing. We also purchased a Spa Pass for $179 (in advance) rather than get the Spa Balcony. We decided even though the Spa balcony was closer we wanted the two separate rooms. While we understand the balcony is small, it's on the side of the ship and wind was minimal. It's a personal choice. Also, we thought it'd be a great advantage to not only see what is on the side (balcony) of the ship but what is in front of the ship (from the port hole in the bedroom). Like I said--a personal choice. Happy sailing and have a great cruise!

How did you like the Forward Facing room? My fiance and I are getting married on the Getaway next January and are looking to upgrade to the Haven. We're currently having the same dilemma...Forward Facing or Spa Balcony.
