  1. I am new to HAL and when i was online looking at different excursions and other items, it has a spot for promo code.  Is this something that they would email you?   Also, in the past I have actually been offered upgrades on my booking/itinerary page for other cruise lines.  Has anyone ever seen that on the HAL site?

    thank you in advance!

I agree with Richstowe.  In my opinion HAL has smaller ships, so it's more like a small town.  The lines with larger ships I would liken to a big city.  There will be less choices in entertainment and courses/classes.  The crowd tends to be older and more laid back.  There will be less people in line for activities, but there also won't be as many choices.  The food has always been excellent, the service is friendly and more personalized.  My 20 year old son likened his one trip on HAL as a floating nursing home, but he said it with a laugh.  If you are looking to be constantly entertained while on board, or you enjoy rowdy activities, it's probably not your idea of a great vacation.  If you enjoy quieter activities like going to the fitness center, massages, great places to curl up with a book, or to play cards/games in one of the lounges, swim in the pool or lay poolside that's more the HAL style.  The evening entertainment will be geared to the middle age crowd, but there won't be many kids running up and down the hallways either.  I forgot to add that smaller ships can get into more smaller ports of call, and some without the need for a tender.

This is all great news, my daughter in law and I are looking forward to some quiet time.   This will be our first time on HAL, we have experienced most of the other lines.    Excited for the change.

The bar menu has changed since I last sailed.  I'm fairly sure that a classic drink like a cosmo or mojito would be less than $11.  HAL had most of their drinks priced at just below the price limit of the Signature Beverage Package and that limit is currently $11.

    Thank you for the information!

Every HAL ship has the Explorations Cafe which serves specialty coffee.  The.NS also has the Grand Dutch Cafe, which also serves coffee, beer, and Dutch treats.  I'm not a coffee drinker so can't help any more than that with those two venues.

Here is a link to Crew News' website which shows bar menus from his recent cruise on the NS;  http://www.rogerjett-photography.com/specialty-2/hal-regular-and-specialty-restaurants/hal-beverage-menus

Thank you I did see this, but didn't really see any info for "classic" drinks like a cosmopolitan.   I will keep looking.  thank you!

  5. I too am looking into information on getting from our hotel near Houston Hobby, Springhill Suites I believe, to the port and then back to the airport after the cruise. I have heard about Cruise Connection as well, but was hoping someone might have some comments about them. Otherwise it seems like Emanuel at VIP Express is leading in positive comments.

  6. As far as using your UPB for your friends, I truly hope people aren't going to start doing this... in the end everyone else will end of paying for it. If you want the UPB for your friends, buy them one! Probably not to anxious to do that..

Sorry, guess I didn't really think a lot about it, this is the first time with the UBP, but we used to take turns buying drinks/rounds for each other. Guess if we all have the package there is no need for that. Just thought it might be easier for the bartenders/servers using one card instead of 3 or 4. No worries, be happy. thanks!

  7. I will be answering questions as well. Its definitely a "culture change" at NCL. I dont think the bartenders are getting the money coming in like they used to from tips. I found a few bartenders that were personable and started telling them to print out my "bill" so i could add a tip to my several rounds of drinks. The only thing on my account review was the actual tip i paid. It changed everything!!! just a few bucks here and there went a very LONG way. My service at Spice H2O was impecable after i helped them out a little bit. I booked the free UBP before they started charging the service fees lol. We came out so far ahead. My friends enjoyed 25+ drinks/shots each day. I drank smoothies all day and fireball all night.

Curious, were you using your UBP to buy drinks for your friends, if so, was it pretty easy to do that?

  8. Got two awesome deals through Thrifty for one ways and we are good to go. We get in early the day before the cruise and fly out later on the disembark day-so this affords us the luxury of taking our time!

My son also booked a one way rental for the family for both arrival day, which is the day before and departure day. It was a lot cheaper than paying for the shuttle service and that way you have a vehicle to get around if you need to pick things up or do your own sightseeing! As the other person mentioned, when we drop the rental car in Miami, they have a free shuttle to the pier as well.
