  1. Okiecruiseaddict...

My internet is all kinds of messed up this weekend so I hope you get my message! Congrats on the baby!

My cruise was awesome and I barely thought about zika the entire time. Never saw a mosquito, either. I stayed on ship in Belize, but my family went tubing and into the jungle and never saw a mosquito. The guide claimed that mosquito's are rare because of all the bats. That said, Belize was added to the CDC list the week we were set to sail. Noone in our party got a single bite.

In Cozumel, we did a dolphin encounter, not at Chakanaab. We also shopped, ate at an outdoor restaurant, and snorkeled. I wore linen pants and ended up ditching them for a swim cover-up because, again, no mosquitos.

This was in April, I am not sure how things are now. I haven't been keeping track of any zika-related news since our trip, either. But, at the time, the (known) birth defects were limited to only 2 countries.

I was able to relax the whole trip and forgot about the zika thing. I sprayed myself in Mexico, but didn't think much more about mosquitos after that. I never saw reason to re-apply after being in the water. That said, this is my fourth, with three little kiddos running around, there's no time to worry about zika! If it were my first pregnancy, I may have worried more because of the newness of pregnancy, and the anxiety that comes along with it. I have found that I worry less and less about everything with each pregnancy.

Now, I don't know how your wife is in the first trimester, but my primary concern at 10 weeks would be morning sickness. Maybe she'll be one of the lucky ones who doesn't get it, but 10 weeks is nothing short of hell for me. If I were still in the first trimester, I absolutely would have cancelled the cruise. If she does get morning sickness, I recommend diclegis. It helped quite a bit. My morning sickness ended only a few days before we set sail, but I continued to take the diclegis during the trip, to be safe. Again, maybe she'll be one of the lucky ones! And, again, Congrats!

Robotcake (and everyone else), thank you so much for the response(s)! I don't normally take so long to respond but we have been crazy busy with work and some unexpected home repairs, so I haven't had any time to get online. We are on our way to the ship now. Staying in Dallas tonight and Galveston tomorrow night!

My wife hasn't been sick (so far), but she was miserable with our first kid from week 10 to about week 20. Her doctor has given her several different meds, so we're hoping one of them will help if she does happen to get any morning sickness during our trip.

  2. Thank you! We have a surprise stowaway on the way and I will be 15 weeks pregnant.

I would hate for this to become a debate about going/not going. It's a family reunion and I won't change the whole darn thing over me. Instead, I am stocking up on long-sleeved lightweight clothing (including a swim rashguard) to treat with permethrin and deet for my exposed skin. Same for my husband.

I know this post is a little older now, but I just stumbled across it... Congrats on the baby! I hope you had a great trip!

My wife and I are setting sail in a little over a week and recently found out she will be about 10 weeks prego. We are curious how your trip went with the little stowaway. Were you able to relax and have fun, or were you stressed out a lot of the time over zika? How were the mosquitos on the ship and in the ports? We have done research and will be taking precautions with treating ourselves and clothes, limiting time off of the ship, and avoiding inland areas. We have altered plans for our excursions/etc, but some feedback from someone in the same (recent) situation would be awesome.

We’ve had this trip planned with a large group of people for over a year and have decided to not cancel, so I’m really hoping this doesn’t spark the go/don’t go debate.

By the way, our ports/plans right now are as follows:

Roatan: Little French Key (stay on beach or in water -head back to ship if mosquitos are apparent)

Costa Maya: Stay on ship (maybe walk around port for a short time after another person in our party scouts out the port area)

Cozumel: Chankanaab (maybe try dolphins then go back to ship)

  3. Taking my 9th cruise in April; my second on RCCL and my very first oceanview cabin! My other 7 cruises have been with Celebrity in a concierge class, Aqua class or suite, all on the higher decks with balconies.

We chose Deck 2 after discussing what was more important, size and location of cabin, or lots of fun money to play with! The small cabin below won out, especially when we just returned for 7 nights on the Reflection with a balcony and spent maybe 1 hour there the whole week:confused:??

I did, however, spend some time on Deck 3 last week on Reflection, and the proxmity of the window to the ocean rushing by kind of freaked me out!!

Anyone have any recent photos of Deck 2 cabins on Navigator to share, preferably showing a window while at sea??

I may have to spend the week up at the pool bar;)!!

Here is the view from 2564 (Ocean View) on the Navigator back in September 2015. Great views, but the room seemed really small and the location was very inconvenient. Deck two does not go all the way from forward to aft, so to go from one end of the ship to the other you have to go up to another floor, and then across. Didn't seem like a big deal at first, but ended up being a pain.
