  1. Hi,I have only cruised once before on the Noordam in Alaska and one evening we found the bar we were in too rowdy so we took our almost full glasses of wine up in the lift to the buffet area, now I am wondering if I poured our own wine in our room and took them to the buffet what would it matter, nobody seems to mind if you are walking around with a glass in your hand.

    Just saying

    Cheers

  2. You could try ordering a bucket of beer at Happy Hour and get a second bucket of beer for $1 more. It was reported in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2225912&highlight=bucket+of+beer+happy+hour that it can be done. (it's a long thread but look for the red highlighted words: bucket, beer, happy, hour. Sorry about the red highlighted "of".)

We won't be trying it until late April so please report back if you were successful or not.

This is not right, the deal is one extra bottle. 5 for price of 4

We got the deal on sail away on the Noordam and another time later in crows nest, same deal.

  3. Great choice! :)

I should clarify my earlier comment: the desserts in the Lido! Those in the MDR and specialty restaurants were good, but those in the Lido g-r-e-a-t.

I will second that, my DH had 3 desserts one evening because they all looked so lovely

  4. Except some of us do not like crowds.

And as I have a partial handicap and use a walker, Lido is way too crowded for me. And DH can't help me as he has Parkinson's which has gotten worse so he has his own problems. That is why we prefer to sit down in the main dining room.

Sorry, did not mean to be thoughtless,we embarked early on the Noordam and it was not at all crowded on that day, hope you enjoy the Noordam as much as we did on our first ever cruise,

    Happy travels

  5. I was reading another thread about visas and thought I would ask the "experts" here who I know some of you have gotten visas before. How and where do you get visas? I noticed that Australia requires US citizens to get visas, does anyone know why? I understand Russia wanting US Citizens to get a visa, but Australia?

    😘😒😒😒😒😒😒

Why not US requires Australians to do the same as well as being fingerprinted

    Three times this visit.

    Enjoy Oz

  6. How was the piano bar entertainer, if you spent any time there? We are on the Noordam in a couple of weeks. We have been disappointed on the last two cruises. Unfortunately, I am not a name person so just mentioning a name doesn't work for me. Just an impression will be fine. I have checked the 'Piano Bar' thread, but no mention of the Noordam for this Alaska season.

    Dennis

Sorry, can't help you with that

  7. Awesome blog!!!!

I am amazed how on a wonderful cruise for R and R, our CCers are so dedicated to writing about their adventures!

I love your blog and pictures!

    Thank you sooo much!

Happy sailings to many more adventures!

    Denise:)

It doesn't take that long to write a blog and it's my way of sharing my travels with friends and family.

It's also a great way to "go on holiday again" whenever you like.

    Glad you liked it.

  8. Thank you for being the only person to respond that has not been rude and does not realise the cost of cruising in Aus compared to the US. If I remove the gratuities (that as far as I am concerned the companies should be paying their staff appropriately anyway) I pay the good staff that have given me wonderful service directly and in a very quiet way. My last cruise on Diamond Princess, I wondered why the queues to get to reception where huge for the first 3 days. I was then told that they were passengers lining up to have the gratuites taken off. Given the service on that voyage I can't say I blame them. And just for the record all you Canandians complaining, I just looked up your dollar and it is .75 against the uUSD. Try the AUD under .70 and dropping fast.:D

I have just returned from our first ever cruise on the Noordam and am a victim of the Aussie dollar but I knew about the gratuities and allowed for them, I didn't like it, but I paid them and as the cruise went on and I witnessed just how hard working everyone is ( and doing it with a smile) I would have felt a real lousy bugger if I had removed the gratuities. As other have said when in Rome, just suck it up or choose another destination.

  9. Good friends of mine are leaving at the end of this month for a Holland America cruise in Alaska (they did not know name of the ship!)

If they take a new power strip with multi outlets, will it be confiscated when they board?

[i DID try a search here before asking]

I was on the Noordam last week, had a 4 outlet power strip, no surge protector and it was confiscated,

We managed with just our adapter but not impressed

  10. Enjoying reading your blog, thanks for the link.

We are looking forward to sailing on Noordam when she arrives Down Under.

    Wishing you safe travelling.

Some of the staff in the Lido were very excited about their upcoming visit to Australia, one young man who was having his first week on the job and had never seen the ocean before.

    Amazing

  11. A nicer concise review. Glad you enjoyed your first cruise to such a beautiful spot. Wondering when the second 1.00 drinks are served....think one must be about 5:00 or so? And the other? Also wondering in which bars. Thx

Crows nest and ocean bar 4-5 and 10 -11pm

    Great value

  12. We were using pods but this spring for our TA & 6 weeks of travel afterwards we used the "bundling" method. It worked really well for us & clothes were wrinkle free. Here's one video showing the technique.

Yes I agree that method is great if you are staying in one place but we are on the road gor 16 days and find the pods the best method for a road trip.

No going through the bundle to see what you want, they are all rolled neatly in the pods and if creases fo happen a fine mist spray soon smooths them out

    Happy travels
