  1. ok last year I did 10 day sf to sf to glacier bay. the trip was planned with my mom but at the last minute she was sick and couldn't make it so took sister instead. the trip was beautiful - you are so close to the blue ice face all day - we had difficulty even describing it to our families when we got home. any how I am thinking of taking my mom this time bc she is better - on another 10 day and am debating if I should change it up and go to fjord instead. I sort of don't want to do the same thing but it really was awesome. just wanted to hear ideas input etc

  2. we saw that this weekend. ok i know you guys know i have been comparing mirror less a6000 and a smaller compact travel. we bought the a6000 with both lenses this weekend and we are playing around. the light is sooo nice when u take pics. this sounds silly but everyone looks way better looking in the pics. ok so for our cruise to alaska and wild life tour - what are the recoomendations lens wise? vs what we have with the 16-55 and the 55-200 lens. any other suggestions - we were looking at the store at the 16-2000 lens too seems convenient although expensive unless buy used. any other lens that would be recommended for trip to alaska? thank you

  3. ok again great feedback - so really it comes down to this - tilt screen sony hx90v and RAW with panasonic zs40.

    more research needed.

meanwhile i have been playing more with the a6000 and seeing its value big time. just dont know if i can use it on this cruise but i know long it would be a keeper and better investment overall .

  4. havoc wow what a difference - on the a6000!!!!

question if 12800 is not going to be needed on the sony hx90v then the only thing going for it over the panasonic zs40 (available now) is the tilt-able screen. the luminx one does not have a movable screen at all.

what are your thoughts. i would rather get the one to play with it now but the sony sounded a lot better. would love to get feedback

  5. hey guys thanks for all the info - so...

    1. i bought a6000 last weekend and feeling a bit over whelmed with it and the bulk of what have to carry for zoom during alaska trip. i know this is relative but i am coming up from ps world

    2. fz1000 - didnt like bulk but did like sensor but wanted more zoom then it offered. if i was going that route would stay with the a6000 - same price wise.

    3. sony hx90v - just pre ordered it - sony thru in a lot of doo dads and paid for expedited 1 day shipping. guarantee deliver 6/24 or sooner. i liked that it the tilt screen plus great 12800 iso. as compared to the equivalent earlier sony. my big debate was betw this one and the panasonic zs40 (not the zs50 newer with less megapixels). that was my big debate. the panasonic zs4- and this sony hx90v. i just dont like that i have to wait to play with it.

  6. shoooots ok looked and was getting myself pretty jazzed about the sony hx90v an its not avail until right before my trip. ideas on others in this zoon compact category? zs50 /40? or please comment on any others. its seems like u know what i am going for . i sort of want to buy it and play before my trip.

  7. what do u guys consider the best super zoom compact. i have read good things about panasonic tz60 / zs40. any other suggestions for compact quality zoom. i want to be able to use it a lot. i read good things about the sony rx100 mk3 but when i read about it smaller zoom. ideas please. going on alaska cruise and wilderness/whale tour. traveling with someone who is disabled too so lots of juggling around.

ok yes i bought the a6000 but a little concerned i am over my depth on this one and concerned about the zoom without the larger lens. sooooo..... that is why thinking about exchaning.

  8. hi i am the op - i bought one this weekend to test out - did not get the best price 699 (with 18-50mm) but they will price match later and can return easily enough to best buy. i am feeling a bit overwhelmed but it can idiot proof concern is that unless i get the larger lens this might not be good for alaska trip . although quality is totally there. my thought here was to get great quality without the bulk of the dslr but with the added lenses i am getting up there size wise.

  9. hello - i just bought a reversible dress and love it but its too big. i am an 8 and a normal medium and this dress from travel smith is small and is still too big. but i think the concept is awesome. any ideas on where i can find others. i saw some ladies mention them on here so that is how i started looking in the first place. i could get this one altered but sometimes that ends up being crazy expensive.

  10. ok what is more important for trip to alaska cruise not doing wilderness trek add on land trip. this is for a newbie that is thinking a bridge camera. but am open would like to stay under 400 if possible. i am a total novice. its seems when u get sensor size big you sacrifice zoom which seems needed for this type of trip whale watching etc. what is more important. i have the ability to get the p600 for about 199 or less but seems like this might not be the direction to go sensor size wise.

  11. hello - i am very new at this camera thing - had the basic point and shoots. i am going to alaska and want to upgrade. i am concerned about learning curve. we are just starting search and sort of looked a nikon p6000. i know i am being a girl here but they are so much bigger. i then saw a display for the alpha series. i would normally not want to go with a sony but they are so compact and it seems from comments easy to use. does anyone have thoughts on this segment of the market place and recommendations. or is this not a good road to be going down. thank you

  12. I used a private transfer last year to go from Morgan Hill to Pier 35 for a cruise.

There were four of us, plus luggage, and we needed an SUV. We paid $200 plus

20% gratuity ($40). We will be using the same service going from SFO to Morgan

Hill. For a sedan (probably Town Car) we will be paying $105 plus 20% gratuity ($21).

The contact is adolfoslimo.com, if you're interested.

hey that worked out well kruise - adolfo quoted me a total of 156. that is about the same if i rent a car for the whole trip but i hate what happens dropping car in san fran near pier. its a hassle. drop of mom and she has to deal with boarding etc solo. she could wait for me with the luggage but that isnt fair. last year hubbie had to drop us we boarded and then he dropped car and returned in taxi. but with 2 people only would be harder. hmmm unless maybe i use enterprise and they can pick it up. something to research but now i have atleast 1 option i didnt have before

  13. I live in San Jose and have lived in San Francisco as well (not San Fran or Frisco, please :) Much depends on where exactly you'll be going to in the City (yup, that's what we say!) and what part of SJ you'll be coming from. Can you be more specific?

Hello RPV - Thank you so much for your help here. We will be coming from Sunnyvale (El Camino and Old San Francisco Way) and going to Pier 2 in San Francisco for our cruise.

I cant even find a shuttle service that will do this trek.

  14. you guys i am with you !!! i have been cruise shopping on line. i am really getting into these outfits that are mix and match. like a reversible dress black then other side small polka dots. with reversible jacket. travelsmith. then coldwater creek black polka dot outfit same print. the thing is i had this same outfit years year ago and at that pt had it in a small and out grew it. so donated now i am back in small so bought again. nutz i know. then i got some of the chicos traveler items too. skirt, tank, pant, top button down all in black. need scarf and some red accent pieces etc i am searching for dressy flat sandals and rain coat.

  15. thank you for your response big time. so do you think bring one sandal dressy and one closed in dressy? trying to avoid boots if i can. ..... did you bring any waterproof boots? or just tennies? thank you for writing about clothes - i have been looking at travelsmith and there seems to be some good things that i could use on future cruises and possibly business. i like some of their reversible items. there is a dress and a jacket that both reverse from black to black with polka dots.
