  1. We got engaged on Sovereign of the seas in 1990, bought the ring in Imperial jeweler in St Thomas the next day. Honeymoon was on SS Norway they were two of our favorites cruised both several times. Those were about 50 cruises ago.

Honeymooned on SS Norway as well (Caribbean cruise out of Miami) in 1992 - our first cruise (great introduction). Met a lovely couple from Atlanta, Georgia (we are from Liverpool, UK) - they were on their second cruise - became friends for life ! Since taken about 20 more cruises - looking forward to the next - whenever that may be !

  2. On up to about 7 or 8 day cruises - it definitely works (so long as you would normally spend the $50 each in the casino). At some point (9 days?) it becomes expensive (unless you think the convenience of the mini bar is worth the extra cost).

Remember the D & M has to be taken pre cruise (cannot up grade to it on the ship).

  3. Can’t remember- but think it’s about an extra $7 per person per day (on top of the basic upgrade to Premium of $12 per person per day) but you get $50 per person casino credit as well as the extra benefits of the “Drinks & More” package (upgrade to Premium / bottles of wine in cabin / mini bar stocked free of charge on a daily basis / wine tasting event).

On cruises up to about 8 days, the extra benefits received exceed / equal the additional costs (over and above the premium upgrade). Once you go above 10 days or so, as the $50 casino credit does not increase, the costs of the extra upgrade (extra $7 per person per day) begin to exceed the monetary value of the extra benefits received.

Hope the above makes sense - go on the website and check the daily rate for the upgrade to Drinks & More and do the calculation

  4. Agree that upgrade to premium will be $84 per person (for the 7 nights).

Might get it slightly cheaper prior to boarding - keep an eye on online offers - but these are rare.

As it’s 7 nights - should also consider upgrade to Drinks & More package which is good value on a short cruise (8 days or less).

  5. Hi Noreen

Really enjoying the Review.  We did the transatlantic on the Silhouette back in October / November and had been due to go on it again in Early May (we are based in the UK)...............maybe one day.

We usually take a balcony cabin and the take / buy all the perks (to get the wifi / premium drinks etc) and also more often than not, eat in the Speciality Restaurants.  Think we did 10 / 11 nights out of the 15 nights on the Transatlantic in the speciality restaurants in October as preferred these to the MDR.

Do you know where I can find a listing of what extras you get with when you book a suite rather than a balcony as if for example the speciality restaurants are included free with the suite fare, it may be worthwhile our considering a suite next time (rather than paying the add on each evening for the restaurants - love Murano and Tuscan).  Also be interested as to any other extra you get when booking a suite.

At first glance the suites can seem a bit expensive but if many of the add ons are already included...……......the added space may not be that much more (and we are on holiday) !

Keep going with the review - brings back many happy memories and ideas for next time ........................whenever that may be.
