  1. I like what he is saying about simplifying the inclusiveness. I'd be interested to see a cruise line that is more inclusive and less about creating classes of travellers. One of the things that really has turned me off with RCI is this new way of honouring people who get suites. I understand they've paid more and all that but its getting to the point where people like us who cruise in "lower class rooms" like a balcony or (heaven forbid) and inside room feel like we're in steerage class. Even though many of us may have cruised many many times with RCI, we're treated as an afterthought. And to be honest, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if the cruise line actually lived up to their own expectations and had great food and service, something that has been waning in recent years.

OTOH, I anticipate that Virgin may offer an more inclusive ship but its probably going to cost more than many of us might be able to afford.

I remember in our earlier years of cruising - started over 30 years ago - the cruise lines all touted "classless cruising - no matter the accommodations you reserve, all are treated royally." My, how times have changed!

    :(

  2. So instead of leaving last Thurs to fly to board Radiance, I spent the day in the hospital :(:( Turns out I will need surgery (not life threatening but annoying and will get worse if not done). Trying to be very glass half full (in that it hit me Weds and not Sat while we were cruising the Inside Passage) but wishing I was in AK now instead of VA. :(:(

Already booked for next summer but this summer was better schedule wise for us.

Just needed to vent. Happy sailings all.

I'm feeling your disappointment, and wishing you a fast recovery!!!

  3. That doesn't help me with my question. Our roll call would like to know which day and time the meet and mingle is on the Aruba route. We don't have a confirmed meet and mingle yet!

No one knows until the staff of the ship announce a day, time, and place. It will not always be the same as on a previous sailing on the same ship and itinerary. Therefore, really way to help with your question at this time.

Also, it will sometimes be changed from the announced schedule!

  4. Good to know! Thanks for that info! Not sure that we'll ever hit that number!

125 point and counting, but at 43 yrs old, with two kids and many other types of vacations on the horizon, this will be a difficult achievement [emoji30]

I was 40 and DH 43 when we started cruising, and actually 2 years older when we first cruised RC. Oh, and we had 4 kids! More than 30 years later, we're still going! Just carry on and keep cruising! :)

  5.

Before we left the ship, all cruisers were given a small draw string pouch containing a few tokens called dabloons. They could be used to purchase drinks at the bar on the island. Labadee back then was nothing like to Labadee of today. There was just about nothing there. It was great!

Oh my gosh! I had forgotten about those! They were called "Labadee Dollars" when we used them, and I believe we were charged $1 each for them. Think we still have a couple of them stashed away somewhere.

Do you remember the casino chips that were decorated and had the name of the ship on them? We also have some of those.

  6. So many great memories! We took our first cruise in 1982; first RC cruise in 1984. However, the only times we were greeted with free drinks - and then only champagne, mimosas and OJ - were on Celebrity. But drink prices were very reasonable, often even less than back home in CO (unless we were drinking at the NCO Club on the AF Bases). We could buy liquor in ports and even on the ship - without an added charge for the first several years - and take them to our room upon purchase! Loved the after-dinner shooters!

Best filet mignon I ever had was from the regular menu in the MDR. Lobster was great and good size. And, oh, that orange dressing! Windjammer did not serve dinner, but had afternoon snacks - great ones!

We were on the maiden voyage of the Sovereign in 1988. Still have the passenger list from that one. Passengers included the Carters - Rosalyn was the Godmother for that ship. Did several maiden voyages - they made them special back when!

Yes, people dressed "as suggested" with almost no exceptions, and each formal night truly felt like a special occasion.

Not all the changes have been negative, but plenty to miss and remember fondly from "the good old days."

  7. In all sincerity can someone tell me if the following is what you use for luggage tags now?

    http://www.amazon.com/Cruise-Luggage-Holders-Caribbean-Celebrity/dp/B00M5MDAS0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1434563938&sr=8-2&keywords=cruise+luggage+tags

Or what other ideas/options are there for attaching luggage tags? The paper would be far too flimsy? Clear package tape and a stapler?

Personally luggage has been lost twice not fun!

    Thanks in advance,

    Patty

Yep, that is exactly what we are using!

  8. Thanks everyone for your responses...even the directly stern ones (but not the one calling me a theif....that was really unnecessary). I'll just ala carte my drink. I only ever get one drink on vacation because I'm not a drinker. I'd rather pay for my drink than to have any issues.

Welcome to cruise critic! It's truly a shame when some think a new poster is asking how the beat the system, when it's really a simple question by a new member!

    Enjoy your cruise!

  9. I'm trying to decide between 2 RCL itineraries . 10 day rhapsody of the seas 10/17/16 or 12 day Brilliance of the seas 10/05/16. I haven't been on either ship. Can you tell which itinerary is better? I will be in Barcelona oct 2015

Hard to say without knowing the itineraries. If they are similar, and prices similar, then I would choose the longer one.
