  1. I have sailed twice in the studios, Thanksgiving and Christmas 2017. All solo travelers on board the ship are invited to meet in the Studio Lounge at 5pm for cocktails and joining a group for dinner. On the trips I made, between 15 and 40 would go to dinner and a show as a group. A lot depends on the co-ordinator. The studio cabins I had were great, but if I could get another cabin for quite a bit less, I might consider it and just meet in the lounge at 5pm each evening.

  2. When the bar was open, there would be between 10 and maybe 30 people there, many waiting to go to group dinner. Over Thanksgiving and Christmas, people would stop into the lounge for the treats, but rarely anyone lounged there. You might run across someone who stopped in for refreshments. The lounge was still a nice "perk".

  3. I have stayed in Studio cabins twice on the Epic, once over Thanksgiving and the other, Christmas, 2017. (12524 and 11503) I was VERY concerned about being in the center of the ship due to the fact that I am very "exit conscious". But, somehow, I was very comfortable, both times. One had a connection door, but I did not hear anything from the next room. One was next to a large linen room, and again, heard nothing. Both rooms were very quiet. I opened the "window blinds" once, but after that just left them closed.

Some of the Studio rooms are quite far from the lounge and elevators, but both rooms I had were in a close location.

  4. I was on the Epic for the Christmas week. I did not hurry to get onboard, but I did go to guest services on deck five. While standing in line, a crew member was asking questions from people in the line. I asked him about the Posh passes, and he ask how many. He handed me two blue papers with the #7 & #8. I then paid the customer service agent, $59 for each pass. We could not go to Posh until the next morning. We went up and took a look and decided to ask for our money back, which we received. It was very nice, with lots of comfortable padded loungers, and had a nice bar, but that was the extent of offerings.

We felt we did not need the total quiet and privacy that Posh offered. I am a people watcher, and though the ship was very crowded, I always had a lounge near the pool. And lots of people to watch.

I willl say that I live alone and was staying in one of the solo cabins, so seeing so many people was nice for a change.

  5. I am trying to figure out if the NCL points gained from using the NCL CC are worth more than the cash back for a bank MasterCard. I have $5000 in bills to put on a charge card and am not sure which is best use. I do pay every card in full each month and I plan on going on NCL again. I would appreciate any suggestions as I am having trouble with this.

  6. Until my last cruise (Nov 17) I have always had either a balcony, or in the old days,a porthole, and had never travelled as a solo.

I was on the Epic in a solo cabin. Before the trip, I was a bit worried about being solo in an inside cabin, but, after 7 days on the ship, I will book either a solo or an inside cabin in the future. I would sit outside on deck. Never really used the balcony when I had one.

Traveling as a solo on The Epic, in a studio cabin, was great. The solos had a crew member that would meet us around 5 and make reservations for having dinner and going to shows as a group. This was my first solo cruise, but I think that NCL has a director for singles on all cruises?

You might consider booking a NCL studio cabin for you first solo trip.

  7. I am confused about the internet package. I don't understand what messaging is but know text.

Will I be able to text? Thinking about it, I would think no because that goes thru the phone line. Is that right? Will I be able to use my email just like at home, both sending and receiving?

Thank you for any reply you might make. Just trying to get extras clear.

  8. I am looking at cruises for late next year, and it appears that a good portion of the studios are booked. Very few choices and they aren't the desired, between two rooms, not connecting etc. Are rooms blocked by travel agents or NCL?

  9. Thanks for all the replies. Very interesting to me.

Has anyone ever booked the least expensive cabin on a cruise? I know that you could not pick a location, but is that any different than not having a cabin # when making reservations? Just thinking!

  10. How bad can a bad cabin be on a ship? Has anyone had a cabin that was really bad?

I have cruised a lot in cabins with either a balcony, or in the old days, a porthole, but wonder how bad bad can be?

My next two trips are in a Studio which equals an inside cabin.

There reason I ask is because I really like the idea of cruising, but to really do it a lot, I would look for some less expensive cabins.
