  1. I was also on the Dawn, it was one of the best cruises I've had.  I agree with everything the OP said.

On the issue of enforcement of check-in times, the answer is NO.  We were scheduled for 11:00 - 11:30 time, and everyone around us were scheduled for noon or later.  (We arrived @ 11:10)  They came anyway to be "safe" on there time.  It did not matter, as the OP said the cruise was less than half full.  NCL (or the contract 3rd party) did not check scheduled times, and just processed everyone as they showed up.  It went quickly and we were on board by 11:45.

Since the previous 2 cruises on the Dawn were cancelled, all rooms were ready upon boarding.  It was great to drop off the bags and enjoy the ship.  The service was super, with few people to serve the crew was eager to help.

  2. Just off of the Dawn, and tipped $1 for 2 drinks per order.  My roommate crashed early, and the friendly bartenders would give me 2 x double scotch drinks per order after that.  No additional charge.

Tipping helps a lot, it was a half filled cruise, but every time we walked up to our favorite bar the guys were pouring our drinks before we sat down.  Sometimes ahead of people already there.  They also still had the hero cards on the Dawn.

Soft drinks off of the bar tap were included, cans were extra.  Specialty coffees were extra.

Oh yes, Suites+ could order 4 or more drinks at a time, not just 2.

  3. Mine was 8 weeks before sail date, but it could have been earlier.

I did not check NCL.com until then. They do not send out upgrade bids, they show the opportunity to bid on NCL.com after you log in.  (At least in my case)

    This is very helpful info.

    We sail Dawn 2/27, 14day Caribbean.  I bid $230pp for similar Inside>>Balcony  = mid-fair bid.

Where did your $120pp fall on the meter?

Check my post earlier, I bid $175 pp ($100 was min) and got a BA on deck 10.  Do a phantom booking for balconys on your date and see how many are available.  If they have a lot, you could probably lower your bid as @linbobky got a balcony on my cruise 1-2 days later for $120 pp.  We had lots available when I looked a week before.  FYI:  They locked my bid as pending (i.e. can't change it) 3 days before accepting.

  5. Upgraded from IB inside to BA Balcony late Friday, saw it today.  It is for the 1/29 Dawn out of Tampa.  Quite happy with the room on deck 10 they gave us, it is in the same area of the ship we chose for the inside room but one deck higher.

I bid $175 pp, below the midpoint on the scale.  I had checked a couple of days ago and the Dawn had quite a few balconys available, so felt good about getting an upgrade.  Was still sweating it out though!

  6. I have had this happen when I booked a trip with a friend, his number never showed up correct.  The cruise did not show up when he logged into NCL.  However, under his profile he searched for the cruise by reservation number.  The system found the cruise and gave him a link to click.  After he clicked on the link, his info was updated to the correct lattitudes number and it showed on his "My Account" correctly from then on.

  7. If you have the day, you can rent a golfcart and drive all around the island of Bonaire.  I've done this and it was a blast, if you have half of a day the north or south routes are easily do-able.  Look up bonairecruisers dot com and check out the rentals,

Is it 10% off the cruise fare or 10% off everything in the reservation? Thanks

It's 10% off of the remaining Cruise fare after all other discounts.  I booked an 11 day Dawn cruise for 1/29/22 and it was 10% off after their "30%" off deal.  It does not apply to the port fees or anything else.  Not a bad deal with the bev, 4 meals, internet & $50/port excursion plans included.

Darn, cancelled too soon.  Had the Gem 3/4/21 cruise booked and cancelled it yesterday and moved the deposit to a 2022 cruise.

Missed out of the 10% off offer.  Oh well.

I got a little lucky.  My 2/1/2021 13 day Jade cruise final payment was 12/3/20.  Even though we were going to cancel, I waited till the end.  NCL cancelled it on 12/2, and I did get the 10% off.  Booked a late Jan 2022 11 day cruise on the Dawn, with the extra 10% off it was barely cheaper than our 13 day trip that was cancelled.  Without the added 10% discount, the 11 day trip would have been $100 pp more than the 13 day trip.  (The 13 day Jade was booked last Nov with 30% off as well).

show in process on the website.   So we are at 11 weeks.

Was this turnaround for expedited service or regular service?  Passport services received my renewal application on February 22 and I have not heard back from them, other than they cashed my check for normal delivery!

I applied in early Feb, the confirmation email said they received the regular renewal request on 2/7/2020.  My new passport is dated 3/16/2020 and I received it about a week later.  Looks like it was a lucky tight window.

Yes I think that MSC will be intact long after this situation.

However, CCL corp will be a far smaller company, too big at the wrong time. Princess is a gonner that is for sure.

Princess is owned by CCL corp.

NCL loves to claim that the health and safety of everyone on the ships is their number one priority.  If that is true, then following the CDC advice should be automatic, cancel the next 8 weeks of cruises.  This advice should, based on recent history, be heeded especially by cruise lines.  How can any cruise lines have casinos and theatres open for business as usual?  Even the worst shows have more than 50 people in the theatre.

This elimates pretty much all church services as well, yet in Indiana churches have been exempted from the 250 people gathering limit.  At least NCL has stopped cruises for 30 days, which could be extended.  Las Vegas has not shut down, other than MGM Resorts group, why pick on Cruise lines?

  13. I liked the Getaway, lots of things to do and it had the solo cabins.

That said, I loved the Spirit !  The layout and options on the spirit, including the open air aft was great.  I liked the Jade better than the Dawn, but it was good as well.

I guess I prefer the smaller ship experience better than the larger ship, but like them both.

Sooo it looks like it is true. SO unbelievably stupid. How can one tobacco smoke be banned and another ( Cigar )  not??

I don't particularly like Clove, vapes and some cigars but I don't complain when they are enjoying theirs alongside myself. Thanks to everyone who offered their information.

Just saying, they allowed it early until the cigarette smokers overwhelmed it....I doubt they would have banned it if the cigarette smokers "only" smoked one - vs - chain smoking.

P.S.  My roommate loved the Bimini bar !

  15. In January this year, the cigar lounge was taken over by the cigarette smokers.  They were in there endlessly, and the smoke drifted out into Gatsby's bar every time the door opened.  This was a problem since many shipboard activities are held at Gatsby's.  (Most of the cigarette smokers, my roommate included, chain smoked 3-4 cigs before leaving.  It was way more smoke than the cigar smokers put out.)

After many complaints (both by cigar smokers being driven out, and the people at the activities), the cigarette smokers were told to leave and smoke at the proper areas, which were the casino and the Bimini bar on deck 13.
