geblues ...do you have the brand of the natural hand san you use? That sounds interesting as well.

The all natural product is by Nature Direct .com.au it is an Australian Company but Swiss Ingenuity I think. I haven't looked it up for a long time. You get it concentrated and it is the EnviroMist. But again, it kills bacteria. I remember the lady saying that she even used it as a mouth spray as she had a sore throat, not something that was recommended but she thought that since it is all natural, it couldn't hurt. She found it really helpful. Handy for kids, especially littlies who suck their fingers, much better that the alcohol chemical types.

I'm taking my dettol hand foam for our cabin and try and use our bathroom the most (I could probably do with the run after all the food lol). and try and avoid the sanitise bay as I will use my own stuff, even still, they both dry my hands, so you put on moisturiser and that just defeats the purpose doesn't it. If people just washed their hands and we don't put things in our mouths, it would really help. I do have to wonder how much is carried by the staff and not cleaning things properly.

  2. Just to pick a few nits here, while I'm sure it felt as if the ship heeled over 45*, it was far from that, given your description. Had the ship actually gone over to 45*, no one would have remained on their feet, not a chair onboard would have remained upright, and virtually no glass, dish, or bottle of liquor would have survived intact. I have been on a cruise ship that heeled over about 35+*, and we sent 100 guests to the hospital, most with broken limbs.

The statement about veering to avoid collision is probably correct, as with the ship travelling at any rate of speed, violent turning will induce a heel away from the direction of turn.

Yes I did think the same thing, anyone on a balcony or on deck would have flipped overboard and many of the elderly would have fallen over and broken a hip, arm or collar bone. It sounds good though.

  3. Hi all,

I will post on the roll call as well.

    Two things:

    1. My sister works for a company incharge of the passengers at Fremantle wharf and the airport. She rang us to say about not getting on board early due to the Norovirus onboard apparently 13 cases. The Ship and terminal will be sanitised but all will go ahead to schedule, finish loading people at 1615 and set sail at 1700hrs. Princess had already told us not to get there before 2.30

    2. Spoke to my chemist who said that Benzalkonium Chloride is just a preservative, not an active ingredient and that it is the alcohol that does the sanitising but not as good as a good hand wash routine. I had also been told that the hand sanitiser gels are bad for you... of course they are shocking on my hands, they go dry and crack. I have my own but also have a natural sanitising spray that I got a while ago. All natural products but does the job. We normally buy Dettol foaming handwash for home, non-drying, smells great and kills 99.9% of germs. One of the main problem areas is under the nails. I chopped up a chilli the other night and even after a number of washes/shower, I still had the sting of chilli under my nails... so if chilli can stay through that, don't you think that bugs need more than just a quick wash? Scary thought.

PS, Apparently I was also told that the Norovirus isn't anywhere near as bad as last year.

    Let's hope :o

We were there a few weeks ago on Princess and we took the ships' transfer. It is the only time in our lives we have ever taken a ships' transfer, and we used to live in Malaysia. I can tell you for certain that that road into KL is very unpredictable and traffic jams can sometimes last for hours. For the likely price difference of $30 we didn't think it was worth the risk. I can't believe I'm saying that because I really dislike the scaremongering about missing the ship, but in this instance I thought it was actually possible .

    Hi Iahore,

thank you so much, I am just like you, hate the threat of missing the boat, but KL is one place where I have heard someone like yourself mention it. it is just that I don't have as much time to shop as I would like as I have a bit of a run from the drop off point at KLCC to BB Plaza. We are also on a Princess line, we are on the Dawn. If you have any helpful info about ports at Penang, Langkawi, or Phuket would love to hear about it. I have been to all but Penang. email is eastry@iinet.net.au if it is easier to email me. I don't normally like to put my email address up on a forum, but I don't know of any other way to do it.

    kind regards,

  5. All chemists have hand sanitisers, maybe even supermarkets.

It's a very small amount of time to use and the benefits are huge:)

Thanks Nanaof2, I have an adult daughter with Cystic Fibrosis, so definitely understand the art of keeping germs at bay, it was just OzKiwiJJ mentioned about a particular one that isn't drying. I find most of them dry out my hands making them feel tight and itchy, so wondered about what brand she was using.

Thanks for your note of caution anyway.

  6. Hi OzKiwiJJ, I was just wondering what hand sanatiser you used that was kind to your skin, most of them just really dry my hands out, a lot of hand washes do to.

    thanks.

They were pretty good during our Sun Princess cruise at Christmas, which had a Noro outbreak. They had two people stationed at the entrance to the MDR with the sanitiser and the only way you could get past them without using it was if you were carrying your own sanitiser - which I was as the alcohol-based ones play havoc with my skin.
  7. Hi all,

I have asked this on someone else's post but I thought that I'd just put it out there to the broader population of forumites.

I was wondering about getting a driver for KL or maybe a taxi. I've been to KL a couple of times and need to go to a couple of shops where I buy my clothes from. I am concerned about getting back if there is a traffic jam and missing the boat. The cruise's bus trip is $49.95 per person. I thought that $100 for a couple wasn't too bad and it comes with a guarantee, not to miss the boat that you don't get with a private driver.

Just wondering people's thoughts and also how much it is for a taxi from the port and how long did it take, did you get held up getting back to the boat, is it a bit risky? Any other time I would do my own thing, but this one port has me a little concerned.

    thanks for any help.

    kind regards,

  8. We used a driver from the recommended driver list on TripAdvisor for Kuala Lumpur for our stop in early April this year.

  9. Carnival really didn't want you to stay in that inside room on the Upper deck. I wonder why. They tried to get your money first and when that didn't work, they moved you for free. Either way, a huge benefit for you [emoji4]

Yes they were really determind to see them moved:confused:

  10. We had a lovely time .....

We caught the tail end of a cyclone two days out of Freo - an unusual occurrence

Re Port Klang/Kuala Lumpur - the ships excursion is the best way to go because of the distance and the traffic conditions. Taxis were a similar price I believe but of course you do not have the guarantee that they will get you back in time.

    Judy

    Thank you so much Judy,

that is what I was thinking. I just would have liked a little bit more time as I have some particular shops I need to go to But a couple of people have said the same thing, a bit concerned about the traffic. I've been there a couple of times and had no problem but when those that are more familiar say that it can happen, then I listen!. re: cyclone, we caught the tail end of it here in Bunbury but thinking that July wouldn't be too bad, well I've got some travel calm and I'm going to buy some ginger!

    Thanks again.

    kind regards,

  11. Hi there for anyone who cruised on the April 15 Dawn cruise from Freo to Singapore. I have a few questions.

Did anyone book a taxi or driver when you docked in KL? I know it's a way from the port and traffic isn't reliable, just wondering if people booked their own way or just took the ships bus into KL?

Was it rough out of Freo? Sea sick? Did it calm down as you got passed Geraldton?

What is the setup as far as taxi's are concerned when you disembark at the ports?

Which ports did you have to catch a tender in?

Thank you so much for any info.

    kind regards,

  12. If you have any more questions regarding the Dawn Princess, I suggest you post on the 'Australia & New Zealand' section of this forum. You will be reaching a lot of people who have sailed on the Dawn Princess recently and will be able to answer specific questions.:)

Hi there, sorry but being new to this forum, can you please either explain or paste a link to the 'Australian & New Zealand' section? as I thought that you had to look on the Dawn Princess forum, for your specific cruises

    thanks for your info :)
