At the noon announcement, the captain said  that the number of cases of Covid onboard have been increasing and that crew will now be required to mask. Also encouraged passengers to mask.

it would be good if they had masks available at the entrance to the venues…

We board tomorrow, Saturday, December 3. I am happy to see that all crew will be required to mask up. That was the case on our August Mediterranean cruise on another line. How can it hurt? I hope the mask wearing by passengers will be required, not just suggested. Who wants a repeat of the mid-voyage cancellations we saw just 2 years ago? There’s always something…!

Years ago, we had a particularly active roll call. Pol Aker came up. Laughingly, I said that if anyone didn't want their "Pol", we'd take it. At our meet and greet, we would up with half a dozen bottles...giggle! While it was a little rough going down "naked", it made a perfectly fine mimosa!!!

And yes, If you chill it to death, it made  a perfectly fine "afternoon treat" on the "porch"!!!

Great recommendation. We regularly use our Pol for a morning Mimosa!🥂

  3. Just checked the Cunard website, FYI:

    https://www.cunard.com/en-us/the-cunard-experience/sailing-with-confidence/our-assurance-to-you#insurance

    Looking to book?

Correct as of January 6, 2022.

”In the event of testing positive on board.

Similar to the protocols for all international travel, should a guest test positive for Covid-19 whilst on board, they and their close contacts will isolate for their and other guests’ well-being. This will be for either the duration of the required isolation, or to the next port of call, or to the scheduled port of disembarkation.

Any instances of positive tests on board will be managed by our on board medical teams in conjunction with local port authority / Port Health requirements and protocols to determine the most appropriate course of action. The framework of protocols for cruise ships can differ slightly to those on land or to other forms of travel and some ports, such as those in Spain, require guests and their close contacts who have tested positive to disembark to continue the period of isolation ashore in that country.

In situations where guests are required to disembark the ship, we shall always work with the local authorities and the guests’ insurance company to secure the most appropriate accommodations to continue the period of isolation. In most instances, these will be pre-determined hotels that have been identified as ones able to accommodate positive cases of Covid-19.  Once the isolation period is complete, guests would then need to arrange travel to return to their country of residence. Our dedicated support team will provide ongoing support to any guests in these circumstances.

If guests are required to isolate/quarantine during their time on board, they will be given a non-refundable Future Cruise Credit (FCC) pro-rated for the duration of their isolation/quarantine period.  This FCC can be used on any new booking made and is valid for two years from the date of issue.”

    Hello --
DH and I are booked for the 19-night NYC round-trip cruise on QM2 in March 2022.  We are trying to clarify Cunard’s responsibility for handling passengers with Cunard Air arrangements for travel at the end of their cruise – in the event the cruise is terminated or passengers are required to disembark due a positive COVID test.

We were on QM2 in March 2020 when she was terminating her world voyage and disembarking all passengers.  At that time, Cunard made flight arrangements for those passengers who, prior to boarding, had booked Cunard Air at the end of their cruise; passengers who did not have Cunard Air hand to handle booking their own flights home.

Was this process followed on the recently terminated Caribbean cruise on QM2? Does anyone know if there is a Cunard policy such that, if the cruise were terminated by Cunard and/or we were required to disembark due to COVID test results, Cunard would handle making our air arrangements home, provided we had booked Cunard Air before boarding?

Perhaps there is someone on this thread who was on the recent QM2 Caribbean cruise and/or others who know if this is the case.

    Thank you.

Look at Post 536 on page 22. Make your own judgment. We have canceled.

    jgd3rdbcfd,

I'm curious, has Cunard mentioned anything about reimbursing you for some or all of the cost of the cruise?

    Thanks

    Jack

FYI, here is a section from the Passage Contract that seems to answer your question.

    6. PUBLIC HEALTH AND COVID-19 PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES; UNDERSTANDING AND ACCEPTANCE OF RISKS...

    f) You further understand and agree that if, after boarding, and even if You have fully complied with all Carrier’s COVID-19 Guest Protocols, You test positive for COVID-19 or exhibit signs or symptoms of COVID-19, the Carrier may disembark, refuse re-boarding after a shore excursion, or quarantine You as well as Your traveling companions, or take other steps which the Carrier determines, in its sole discretion, are necessary under the circumstances to protect the health and well-being of others. Under these circumstances, any such Guest who is disembarked, refused re-boarding, or quarantined shall be entitled to a prorated future cruise credit for the unused portion of the Cruise Fare. Each such Guest is responsible for all related costs and fines including, without limitation, consequential travel expense and lodging. this advice by the CDC is outrageous    thousands and thousands of people will lost their jobs  I hope the cruise industry fights back big time

The CDC has the responsibility to protect health, not to protect businesses. Their warning is fair. You may certainly choose to ignore it.

FWIW is it their intention to arrive back in Southampton Jan 10th or are they going to gun it across the atlantic at 29 or 31 or however many knots and make the crossing in 3 or 4 days as they can do probably 3 from Barbados. Many of the UK passengers will have transport booked for them on Jan 10th coaches and the like to get them home.

The news items posted by Host Hattie indicate Cunard’s intention to return to Southampton by January 10. Whether passengers will be onboard has not been addressed as yet.

  8. Our refund of the April 1 Queen Mary 2 voyage from Cape Town to New York has been credited to our CC as of June 8 (submitted March 12). Our $600 FCC remains active and we have optimistically applied it to a September 12, 2021 voyage from New York to Southampton, Bruges, Amsterdam, Cherbourg and back to New York. If there is no viable vaccine by final payment date, we will cancel and keep waiting.

Good luck to all still waiting for a refund.

We pre purchased our tickets for the bus but you could buy at the departure point. We did pay for the troll car in NOK but I'm sure i saw that they took cards too. It was definitely worth getting the troll car. We wouldn't have had time to reach the glacier without doing so.... the description of 'slight incline' to walk is economical....

    Thanks very much!

The only problem I have with all of these great ideas is space. We are packing for 15 days, including a stay in Hamburg before our cruise. As it is, we will need an extra suitcase which is a garment bag. On an international flight, that costs us $100.00 each way. Thank goodness AMEX pays for that. I really have to get all the rest in just two 25" bags, which causes wrinkling no matter what you do. I am surprised that Cunard does not include dry cleaning and laundry in QG like HAL does in their suites. I guess that all of the dress clothes will go out the first day for pressing. We really don't want to spend our vacation time doing that!

Why don’t you experiment with dry cleaner bags without using hangers? They take up no room and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thank You for this up date . This is obviously take from a copy of the onboard Daily Programme which, is/was not consistent with the information in recent Q & A's on the Uk Cunard site.

    Glad to help clarify.
