  1. my shareholder OBC request was denied.  Reason given was "This booking is a restricted discounted reservation and is not eligible for onboard credit"    True, this booking was at a discounted rate, but the booking itself included some OBC.  This is the first time that my Shareholder OBC was denied, and I have booked similarly discounted / casino rate cruises many times in the past.

  2. It has been a while since I got the family together for a cruise.  Afternoon Tea is a favorite.  I believe I was able to read that in 2022 Carnival had to eliminate afternoon tea on cruises shorter than 6 days.   We are likely to schedule a 4 day in May, has Carnival re-instututed afternoon tea on shorter cruises?

  3. Hello,

Long time viewer of Cruise Critic, fist time poster. My Wife and I (both mid 30s) have done a few cruises, first with Carnival. We sail out 3/18 on the Glory. We did the “Any Balcony” reservation and received our room information the other day. It looks our room is located on deck 6 above the “Amber Palace”. My question is, does that lounge get loud at night (After 11pm)? I’m a night owl and my wife is not, so I don’t want her awake and upset when I'm at the Casino :D

    PS.

Thank you for all the help throughout the years.

Not trying to be difficult, but, check your departure date, I think it's 3/17 ... wouldn't want you to miss it

  4. We always do YTD...We always try to find a wait staff team that we like, and request them each night. Usually, we are pleased with who we get on the first evening, occasionally we have to try a second time. Never had to change more than that. We always leave the auto gratuities on and we bring cash to tip extra on the last evening. We don't sit together for dinner like we should at home, and so, the MDR experience is the favorite part of cruising for our family. My kids really enjoy interacting with the wait staff, and the kids insist on generous tipping at the end of the cruise. Seems like everyone is happy at the end, despite some sincere tears due to having to say "goodbye".

  5. After checkin, the Priorities get seated in the terminal depending on what level they have, and then when the ship is ready for boarding, each priority group will be told when to board.

FTTF's may board after the 1st 3 catergories of weddings, Diamonds and Platinums get on the ship.Enjoy your cruise.

    evandbob,

Thank you for that summary. One further question: after boarding on a Casino Premier Fare, ie..not a wedding, diamond or platinum, can you tell me what to expect in terms of what time the room should be ready and what time we should expect to be allowed to access the room?

  6. I understand from another thread that Carnival is now only paying out 3/2 on BlackJack on $25 and up tables. Last year, when I was on the Valor, the $6 BlackJack game had the 6/5 payout but the $10 regular BlackJack tables had the 3/2. Has anyone figured out how many hours @ $25 per hand it takes to earn the 1500 points (or table game equivalent) for Drinks on Us card, and by extension the 5,000 (again, or table game equivalent) required for casino cruise offers?

    • NY Strip steak (I eat the Flat Iron steak, but it's no NY Strip!)
    • Chateaubriand
    • Baked Alaska (Just for the presentation)
    • They had an entree that included Farfalle noodles and sausage (and other stuff) that could be ordered as an appetizer. I used to order a bowl of Farfalle and sausage as an appetizer.

Unless my memory is really challenged, Chateaubriand was served last year on 8 days on Sunshine and Valor

  7. We sailed on her last summer. Loved the decor, with its ode to heroism. You can feel everything from Knights in Shining Armor to Rosie the Riveter to Neil Armstrong. Favorite decor of any ship we have been on. Our kids felt like she was missing something....she only had one water slide, perhaps that was it. We have never been on a cruise that we didn't enjoy, but the DW and I liked the Valor more than our kids did. Hope you have a safe and wonderful cruise!

  8. No, but that would be a good reason on why the future cruise offers are only ES now. Think about it. You can't cancel and rebook without penalty.

I seriously thought about waiting to book our summer of 2018 cruise until we embark on our cruise this summer. I don't know exactly what made me go ahead and book it since I've really enjoyed the benefits from booking on board in the past.

Loss of OBC is bad enough, but couple that with being locked into Early Saver AND losing the OBC if taking advantage of a price reduction that doesn't include it makes this an unattractive deal.

What is it about early saver that locks you in?

  9. The Value (or middle tier) plan is $16/day when purchased on board, but I'm not sure what it would be with the first-day/entire cruise discount. No, they won't charge taxes if purchased on board. You might want to have a look at this thread. A few users post prices, it might give you an idea. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2494813

Not 100% sure, however, I think the Value (or middle tier) plan is more like $10 and change per day. The premium is more like $17 ish I think

  10.

. These are real problems some compounded by being away from a tech that can fix them when they go down. .

CCL can't afford to install these machines and then have them go down during a cruise, however, if they install 10 or so machines on the ship, could they not have a person or two on the crew who know how to maintain and repair them?

  11. What you're booking as a vacation on CCL combined with above (drop last letter)

Others swear by website, I am far less impressed.

And in reference to your fares question, despite what you check, the cruise price is almost always the exact same (early saver usually $20 per person cheaper than past guest)

Thank you for the additional clues! Had not heard of that site before....

  12. .

If, like me, you don't have the time to check the website daily for price drops, there is a website that you can sign up for alerts....it's about $1 per cruise watch....but it is handy....some people refer to that website as the fishy site.....

Is there any way to decode or offer a further clue as to the name of the website that is called "the fishy site"?
