  1. This is very much a shot in the dark, but here goes.  My wife and I were on the last sailing of the Edge before the shutdown in March 2020.   It also was a celebration of International Women's Week.  The ship had an amazing party Band that played in The Club many nights and also at the Captains Club party.  I think most of the members were from somewhere in South America.

Does anyone remember the name of this band and whether they are still with Celebrity on another ship? We really enjoyed their music, especially when they did live karaoke. Maybe they will be on our Apex sailing.

  2. I have never seen it crowded on my saiings.  I first experienced it on Vista in July 2016.  And it has been on ships since then so I assume it must be making some revenue.  Venues on ships don't tend to last if they aren't making revenue.  I had the lobster BLT on Conquest and it was pretty good but overpriced at $12.  I think $8 would be better price for the quality.

  3. Thanks for posting all this. We will be on the NYE sailing. First time on Equinox since the Christmas/NYE sailing in 2014. Loved this ship them and your posts make me even more excited.

Do you happen to know the names of any of the bartenders at GastroBar? When we sailed we met the absolute best bartender named Santos. Sebastian was another one we met who normally worked in Reflections lounge.

  4. Despite having heard rave reviews about Aqua class and Blu, our first experience was disappointing. On Summit this summer, we experienced ridiculous wait times for a table several of our ten nights. Sometimes we dined alone, sometimes with another couple, and we also offered to share a large table that often remained empty. Since we didn’t care about the shows, we tried arriving at times that would be unpopular with theatre patrons, only to still be offered a pager and told to wait in the nearest bar. We were not the only Aqua guests experiencing this problem. A lovely Australian couple told us they’d never encountered this on S-class ships, but I’ve since seen several recent reviews reporting the same issue on S-class. Would those of you who are regular Aqua class travelers please let me know if my experience is the new normal?
That is surprising. We have sailed on AQ many times (twice on Summit and once on Equinox). Never had to wait more then 5 minutes. Don't recall them ever giving me a pager. We often got the same exact table and wait staff each night.

  5. Like everyone else here, I have no idea what changes of any they will make. Reciprocal benefits to get someone to try a Princess, HAL, or Cunard. Especially the last two since they currently attract an older demographic which in the next 10?15 years will get much smaller. They'll need to fill those cabins so reciprocal benefits could get a Carnival-loyalist (where the demographic is younger) to try another sister line.

  6. Yes, you may order multiple bottles at 50%.

Yes, they will transfer remaining bottles to the MDR.

I believe you may take it back to your room though I have no personal knowledge since I never asked to do this..

This is a great tip!! I had heard about the 50%off a bottle but thought it was limited to a single bottle. That would be a better value than the wine packages.

A tip for those who may be concerned about filling up and not eating all of their entree is to ask to have your salad served after the entree as is the custom in Europe. The staff has always honored this simple request for us. We each have an appetizer and then the entree. Sometimes we eat all our dinner and skip salad and go straight to the best course: dessert but we always have the option for salad ordering this way and never miss a bite of our main course because we filled up on salad.

    Have a memorable dinner

  7. h2o wondering the same thing....I know some say they don't tip because they prepay gratuities (we do, too) but on all ocean cruises we have always given 2 or 3 US dollars per delivery. Is this normal? What do you all do?

I always tip Room Service a few dollars. Depends on how big the order is

  8. Hello Everyone -

We have booked the Viking Sea for a November 2017 sailing. My in laws are coming with us. My MIL needs to be gluten free for medical reasons (celiac). Has anyone had experience with this onboard? We have had our travel agent note this on our reservation and want to prepare accordingly for how Viking manages this. We have had very good experiences on Celebrity and Carnival. Hoping Viking is similar.

  9. I am not surprised at what the OP and other seasoned Carnival cruisers have said about the Vista. In reality the Vista is only 2.7% larger than the Dream Class tonnage wise (133,500 vs 130,000). However the Vista carries 6.1% more passengers than the Dream Class. This has resulted in the Passenger Space Ratio being a 28 as opposed to the Dream Classes 29. For Comparison the Conquest Class is a 31, Fantasy Class is a 29, and the Spirit Class is a 34. The Carnival Sunshine is the worst in the fleet at a 27. She was a 31 as the Destiny.

The other interesting thing is that the number of crew on the Vista only increased by 4.3% over the Dream Class which does not match the increase in passengers, so I can understand why some service issues have popped up.

All things being said, If I had listened to all the negative reviews on the Sunshine, I would not have sailed her. It turns out that we liked the Sunshine, and would sail her again.

And so it will be for the Vista. Somewhere down the line we will try her and form our own opinions.

    Happy cruising everyone!! :D

Very interesting stats!! Thanks for sharing. The maximum number of crew will always be an issue since you can only have as many crew as you have crew cabins. We heard about this directly from the Guest Services manager when we had a Behind the Scenes tour of the HAL Koningsdam which also has service issues - especially in the MDR. If they want to add more crew to the MDR, another department (such as Housekeeping) has to give up people and no one wants to do this.

  10. Using the gym area is always free. Same with getting a locker. You go to the spa desk and they will take your Sail and Sign, assign you a locker and give you a key. Most of the locker rooms (Breeze for example) have either a steam or sauna that is free for all to use. Ships that have Cloud 9 have separate saunas, steam rooms and pools that are only available to those in Spa cabins (where available) or those with a Spa pass which is purchased for the length of the cruise. If you have a Spa appointment such as massage or other treatment, you will also get access to the special areas of the spa on the day of your treatment.

  11. I also confirm what others are saying: Your experience will vary. The stated rule is they confiscate it. We have had that happen before and can see how you could be able to bypass the check in table. On another cruise we bought tequila in Cozumel and no one made a peep when it went through the x-ray. Somewhat dumbfounded, my wife and I just headed to the elevators and dropped it off in our cabin.

  12. My wife and I are booked on 12/27 Quest. First time on AZ. If anyone has been on recent sailing can you provide some of the complimentary wines that were served? Is it still one red and one white per day which varies during the sailing? Also we received the "Like" promo when booking. I don't see any bourbon brands listed in the Premium package. Does anyone know what the "house" bourbon is?
