It amazes me that people thing Princess is less formal in Alaska, butbto each his own.

With my response I was speaking about the land tour, sorry for the confusion. I read that the restaurants on land don't ask for any dressy clothes since many are on their way to or from an activity. It also makes it easier since we are only allowed 1 suitcase for each person on a Princess cruisetour.

On a recent cruise, I noticed many men wearing blue jeans on casual as well as Formal Night dining in the MDR.

So many PAXs I observed, seem to ignore the posted Dress Code posted outside the MDR.  :classic_biggrin:

The Maitre D’ told me that men wearing jeans are permitted  on casual as well as Formal Night.  Same with a few men wearing ball caps.  He said PAX wearing a hat could be because of baldness, medical or religious reasons.  I get that.

Prince needs to update the Dress Code?

    Enjoy your cruise.

NO< jeans are not accepted on Formal nights and there is no policy that states this non fact.

    That is correct.

On the CB shorts were allowed on casual nights in the DR while on the Regal long pants were required on casual nights except for the first and last nights and when the ship was in port late.

Other than myself there I didn't see any other guys in shorts last night in the DR.

Maybe they didn't know the rule?

oh, btw- they aren't posting a sign outside the DR door lately.

It's so hard to know what a policy is when every ship does something else. The website says all ships not just whatever they want. Which further confuses people. Perhaps that's why they removed some of the signs, thank you !

Most cruises you have to fly to. I always check luggage. No problem packing nice clothes.

Oh I meant for every night I won't pack 7 outfits. Yes I always pack good clothes for dinner and not jeans, shorts, tank tops or flip flops. I usually do not fly and neither do many others. We drive to port.

I have been told they will ask people in shorts and jeans to go back and change. I'm sure each ship and each MDR is different according to who is working. I guess some like to bend the policy and others don't.

IT IS stated on the website that ON LAND folks do not dress up but on the ship the policy is the same for all cruises. That is what I was referring to and also most people fly to Alaska so I will not be taking a slew of evening outfits and I'm sure others don't as well.

  7. This topic is way out of hand and I am sorry I brought it up. I was really asking what you choose to wear. Despite what your replies are, I read the Princess policy. NO WHERE does it say suggestions that I saw. It states "POLICY" so this is what they expect you to wear. I have heard that you can be asked to return after you change if your clothing is not appropriate. On other cruise lines I have seen terrible things in the DR including shorts, tank tops, bad jeans etc. I think they should adhere to the policy and there are many other choices should you choose not to dress as "policy" but they should stick to it 100% or get rid of the policy all together. I know for Alaska they are a bit less formal on land restaurants. See you all on the ship. NO I will not be in a ball gown !

  8. Since we have to fly I was hoping a dress shirt , tie and sweater would be good for formal night. and trousers, of course. I wear a long skirt and some pretty tops and fancy sweaters, no gowns for Alaska. What do you think ??? I really didn't want to have to pack a suit and fancy dining duds. I normally pack all but we usually don't have to fly cross country or at all. We have 2 ports very close to us so we drive. All this packing and suitcase size for land and sea is driving me insane. But we will have a great time.

Has anyone set up or contacted Princess about the "Meet and Mingle "party for this cruise  ?? I have been to them and they are fun with great stuff to win and meet new friends.

  9. Thanks everyone. I was hoping someone had already had a mini on deck 9 which is where we ill be. I was hoping we could get good views and have chaise style chairs. We love using our balcony . We can't afford to cruise that often. This will be our first Princess cruise. It was recommended to me for Alaska. We usually go Royal Caribbean. Our last was Canada/New England and we loved it all except for Portland, not much for us there. Alaska is on our "bucket list". We are both over 60 and have always wanted to see it. I got the mini suite for the bathroom. We are both plus size and it was worth only $290 to get the mini. We are hoping to get the new luxury beds which should be there by 6/18 according to the website. I know Princess is a great cruise line but we live only 45 minutes from the Baltimore port and 1.5 hrs from the New Jersey port so we use them so we can have more money to cruise w/o using airfare. This is a true gift to me since my husband does not like to fly !!! I am hoping for great weather on land tour and lots to see and do. Then on to our Princess cruise. I can't wait to go Whale watching and see the glaciers. Enjoy your cruising everyone and thanks for any tips and advice on what and where to see great things.

  10. I hope you enjoy Island. Please let us know and send some nice pics. We will be going 8/2018 in mini suite on deck 9. We are doing criusetour so we will be on land for 4 days then cruise Whittier to Vancouver. Can't wait to see other reviews. This is on our bucket list.

  11. We also booked a 2018 cruise. Ours is September 1 & 8... Star Princess b2b.

Is is my retirement present to myself.

    First time on B2B

    First time in Alaska

First time to fly for cruise

    Second time on Princess

I hope you enjoy the B2B, we haven't done that. I am sure you will love Alaska, all our friends have been but us.

  12. Well I just booked our Alaska cruisetour on Island Princess for August 2018. I know that's a long time away but I won't cruise short notice and I am picky about location and cabin type. I am excited about this trip. I grabbed a mini suite on deck 9. I hope a good promo comes along so we will have more spending money for the land tour. First ever cruise on the Princess line. Only because of Alaska. I am a loyal to Royal otherwise. I will check roll call and meet n greet later on. I hope some of you will also be coming along.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY CRUISER FRIENDS, Peggy:D

  13. PLEASE remember NOT TO USE your cabin or suite number for your safe code !!

If you have valuables you can also have jewelry etc put in the ships vault at no cost.

The safe's are very small but we don't take much of value either but we do use the safe for jewelry, passports and some money. My camera is tiny and I carry it most of the time. YES doors are left open while the cabin is being cleaned and I suppose thieves would watch for that.

Never had a problem on a cruise.

Happy cruising everyone. I will be setting sail in about 7 weeks on Grandeur.:D
