  1. First cruise booked for April on Celebrity Silhouette out of Fort Lauderdale. I have no idea whats involved in the disembarkation process, how long it takes, what the procedure is ect, SO, as a result I dont know what to do as far as time frame for booking a return flight. We have enough vacation time to stay an additional night, however the MISERABLE canadian dollar makes what used to be a reasonable expense into something to think twice about. So some advice about departure timing would really be helpful.:):):)

We scheduled a late flight on disembarkation day, scheduled it 4 pm to be safe.

We did the "walk-off" option on Princess - we were on the shuttle by 8 am and at the airport by 8:30. We were able to catch the 9:45 flight home.....:D

  2. We will be at Hubbard Glacier for a day. I plan to dress warmly and be on deck.... *sigh* money is tight so I will take my chances! Just happy to be going.

I am from Minnesota, so I have all the warm clothes.... :D

A vacation is better than no vacation :D

I went with friends so we were able to afford balcony. We went last month and the weather was 65-70. We never closed the balcony door. Just the drapes at night during sleep, but the balcony was still open. We loved it

  3. I went on my first cruise last month - to Alaska on Crown Princess.

I am a TYPE A super + and really never wind down. I absolutely loved the cruise.

It was the first time I was relaxed (not bored, but relaxed).

Had balcony room - so on sea days, I was out there just relaxing.

I did not do any photo op and did a few activities.

    -Casino (wish I didn't )

    -Comedy Shows

    -Bingo

    -Swim

    -Worked out every day.

Loved it so much that we are planning our next cruise next year.

Hope you try it at least once.

Besides the casino and bingo - I did not spend a dime on the boat.

  4. From a first time cruiser!

This was my first cruise and was blown away by the experience.

    - Got on board by 12:30 - totally organized.

    - We overpacked Yes we sure did. Weather was SUPERB, on sea day to Canada, we swam and suntanned all day.

But eve it had rained, it would not have mattered - the scenery and Alaska is just breathtaking.

    - Glacier bay was breath taking. Saw it calving too - big ones crushing down.

    - Had to carry rain jackets in our bag during Ketchikan....weather was 65-68

    - Loved the crown princess. MDR food was GREAT. Horizon was okay, so glad we brought formal wear.

    - Room with Balcony was great, quiet and clean. Saw whales the first morning at sea. Slept with balcony door open all week. Our room steward was great, we tipped him extra.

    - Saw killer whales about 10-15- while we were out on the lotus pool the naturalist announced it.

    - Our flight was at 4:55 leaving Seattle on disembarkation day. We chose the walk off process. Got off the boat by 7:30 and arrived at SeaTac by 8:30. We were able to catch the 9:55 am flight. Never imagined this possible.

    - Used the Princess excursion for Juneau whale watching.

Images are blurry for this shot because this baby whale caught us off guard - they had just gone down, so camera down...then BAM! No one got a clear shot, but it was nice seeing it real life rather than a viewfinder.

    - Rode the Yukon train in Skagway.

This was by far one of our better vacations and already planning for next year.

  5. Hello my friend and I finally had the same vacation schedule this year and decided to take a RT cruise to Alaska.

We are in our late 30's (still young..:) )

    Leaving hubby and kids home

We have two options for the 4th of July and have two bookings on hold.

One is HAL amsterdam - it has Glacier bay

Other is Crown - Tracy Arm

**** Now Glacier bay wasn't our first reason to go, more like just to go on vacation. But after reading all the reviews it is hard to ignore.

This is my first time cruise.

  6. Glad to have found this forum.

First time cruiser here and yesterday we decided to do an Alaska Cruise tour this July. Wow - talk about lots of information, from itinerary, deck reviews, ship lines...ahhh

    Two questions:

On the date that would work better for all of us - it is this itinerary:

    - Inside Passage with Tracy Arm Fjord (7 days out of Seattle)

    Does not have Glacier bay?

Should I move all of our dates around to get the itinerary with Glacier bay?

    (will require some creativity)
