  1. I will be returning on the Breakaway into Manhattan in May at 8 a.m. I need to be back in Boston as soon as I can to be somewhere late afternoon. There's an 11:50 flight out of JFK back and a 11:30 flight out of Newark back to Boston. Should I be OK with either of these? Which would you choose? Is it easy to get a taxi to Newark from the terminal. I plan to self disembark ASAP. Whats my best bet?

  2. We were on that sailing too, and I agree with you. Disembarkation was horrific. It did not help that the ship was an hour late due to the storm/high winds the day before, thus not docking till 9AM.

But the main holdup as it was explained to us while we were waiting to disembark was that after the walk off passengers, the security officials insisted that all the remaining luggage be offloaded and then each piece sniffed by dogs before anyone was allowed to disembark and collect their luggage.

We were in a suite so we had "priority disembarkation," which meant that when the dogs were done, we got a few minutes head start down to baggage claim before the first color coded tags were called. That was not until 11AM. And when we got down there, indeed, the customs hall was filled with bags -- all of the color tags. All of the luggage from the ship was down there.

I'm sorry you had an additional hour to wait. It was awful. Just a terrible way to end a vacation.

So did the walk off passengers get off no problem or were they held up too?

  3. If we have a pickup ordered for 9:30a.m. will that be enough time to go through customs if we dock by 8:00a.m. that morning? Do you think a 11:50a.m. flight out of LaGuardia will be okay? Thanks for your answers.

Just curious whether you made this flight or had any issues?

  4. That was the first time ever those promos had been offered together. No one can predict if it will happen again or not. I wouldn't hold my breath. Rebook at whatever promo you can get now. If a better one comes up, cancel and rebook.

Thank you LrgPizza. I wasn't quite sure whether the two together or at least the 3rd person free was a common thing as I haven't cruised in 20 years and never with NCL.

  5. Bummed that we need to likely cancel a cruise we had scheduled in May. At the time of booking we got unlimited beverage as our promo and 3rd person free (my 5 year old). We also got a desired aft-facing balcony room of our choosing because we booked so far in advance (we booked in June).

Now we have a conflict and need to change or cancel. Unfortunately now the 3rd person free isn't offered, not to mention the specific room is booked on surrounding weeks.

Any speculation as to whether they'll again offer 3rd person free for any 2016 sailings? Unlikely we'd get that with UBP again I'm sure.

  6. My husband and I (and 5 year old) have the Breakaway booked for May 8-15, 2016. We booked in June and got the 3rd passenger free as well as the unlimited beverage package and large aft-facing balcony room. We just discovered a conflict on the day we are due back so we need to either alter the trip or cancel it.

I called NCL and the room we have is booked for the two weeks following, but is available on the June 5th departure but would add another $774 to our total. Not willing to do that. We are willing to depart either May 22nd or 29th as well and were thinking of just taking another aft-facing balcony (it would be smaller), but from what I see online the 3rd guest is not free those weeks?! I'm confused.

We are wondering what the odds would be if we booked a regular window room for the week of May 22nd or May 29th - what are the odds we'd get called to upgrade for a discount. When do they start making those calls?

Are there now no weeks in May 2016 where the 3rd guest (child) is free?

Thinking we may have to cancel altogether and find another trip to take.

  7. As others have said you will effectively be cancelling one cruise and booking a new one at the current rate and with the current promo. Back in February when you originally booked, the gratuities were included with the UBP. This is no longer the case so when you book the new date you will have to pay the UBP's 18% gratuities with your final payment. They should be able to transfer your deposit to the new cruise date.

Peg, I didn't book in February - I booked in June, and I already had to pay the gratuities, so that wouldn't make a difference.

  8. My husband and I (and 5 year old daughter) are booked on the Breakaway for May, so still 200+ days away. We've paid our $500 deposit, balance due at the end of February. We also have the unlimited beverage package which was offered as a promotion. We now have a conflict during that week, so I need to call to alter the trip. Going to push it out two weeks. I should not be charged anything to change, correct? I believe the UBP is still offered as a promotion, so nothing should change there either? What if the new week I want (two weeks later) is showing online as a little more $, will they charge me that difference? Any advice before I call today.

Also, if you cancel a cruise with Norweigian altogether this far out do you get your deposit back?

  9. Can someone explain what the daily service fee I'm reading about is. Is this something already included in taxes and fees when the trip is paid for? Also, we got the ultimate beverage package and paid $68 each add a service fee. That's the gratuity isn't it? We aren't required to tip on the cruise are we?

  10. My options for an affordable return train home were 10 a.m. or 5 p.m., so we switched it to the 5 p.m. Its my husband and I and our 5 year old daughter. So we will now have time to kill. Will Amtrak hold our bags at Penn Station or can you not check those in til closer to train departure?
