  1. Hmm we are all the way forward 3003 so right next to where you were. It will be on the SKY so hopefully they will put some extra insulation in the ceiling as they are building it out! Better bring our ear plugs or we will just make sure to go to the shows![/QUO

You seem flip about just wearing earplugs and making sure you go to the shows. Why pay all that money for a five star cruise and then have to make consessions for noise effecting your peace and quiet day and night? They may not have a cabin available for a move after you get there. Also, even though there was a cabin available, it took them 3 days to move us. Having to repack, move and unpack was inconvenient and disruptive. However, we were glad to have peace and quiet and to finally get on with enjoying our cruise.

  2. Many thanks to all who have posted on this thread. We are on the November 26th Venice to Barcelona Mediterranean Odyssey and have booked a number of paid excursions including the following:

    Venice - evening gondola

Venice - Venetian Islands - looking forward to Murano for the glass

    Naples - Ancient Herculaneum

Rome - Private visit of Vatican City Museums - my wife who was in the museum field worked with the Vatican Museum for an exhibit

Monte Carlo - walking tour of Nice and Musee Matisse

    Toulon - A day in Aix-en-Provence

    Barcelona - Gaudi Architecture tour

We will post our impressions after the cruise. We have also done two River cruises with Viking (Danube Waltz and Waterways of the Tsars) and thought they generally did a great job. I expect there have been some kinks to work out with the larger number of passengers and multiple tour offerings. We are really looking forward to our trip.

We just returned and I think you made good choices! Although Pompeii was awesome!

  3. What room are you in? We're in 3024 and someone else we met is farther forward on 3. We and they haven't heard anything from the theater (or anywhere else, for that matter). Of course, I suppose a few people may hear things. Star Theater on 2 is normally used maybe every other night from 9:15 through around 10. Also occasionally there is music in the evening in the atrium (decks, 1,2,3), by the pool/Wintergarden, or something else. I haven't heard of any complaints regarding the noise.

We were in 3005 and heard afternoon rehearsals, which while we were trying to recover from jet lag, woke us from naps, and then we heard the evening performances. Three administrstive staff members came up and acknowledged that the noise was loud. We were finally moved to a quiet room after three days time. I would advise staying away from cabins directly over the Star Theater.

  4. Do not book cabin over the Star Theater. We were blasted out of our beds and after 3 days they finally moved us! The management was very unresponsive and I had to keep finding the cruise director and cruise accommodations manager to get moved. An apology and flowers were nice but the inconvenience of having to repack and unpack and the stress of the noise from the star theater for three days, made for an unpleasant way to start out on a $10,000 cruise!!!! We were very disappointed in Viking for the improper and untimely manner in which they handled this.

  5. We boarded in Bergen yesterday and so far, exceeds our expectations. Allowed to board ship at 11am regardless of cabin level. Wonderful food at lunch and dinner . Able to make reservations immediately for Manfredis and the five course wine pairing restaurant...forgot it's name! No reservations needed for The Restaurant. Snacks in pool grill all afternoon. Gelato is awesome..six or so different favors. Have already tried three...all great. Bergen is beautiful. Cabins are so nice and bathroom is the best ever. SERIOUSLY!!!

When you boarded the ships, how did you make the restaurant reservations? Did you go to concierge or go directly to restaurants?

  6. I don't know if you've found any answers yet. Carolyn was onboard at the beginning of the first maiden voyage which began in Istanbul. She had a live chat going and it was very helpful to me. Within those chats was a member who was one of the 125 who went the distance - the whole 50 days. That is where I got his blog website address which was very helpful to me. He rated the tours that he and his wife took along the way. I don't know if it helps you, but the blog is at maidenvoyageofthevikingstar.weebly.com. Good luck![/quote

    Thank you
