  1. Just to add my two cents to the dress code designations--On the USA Cunard website , pictures are posted under 'what to pack" to show what smart attire and gala attire would be. Pictures are obviously (to me anyway) from a catalog, showing a plain dress, heels, and shoulder bag for ladies, khakis, shirt, and jacket for men. Under formal there is the standard formal wear (for which I was very grateful!). The VP does give a little more detailed description of "smart" and "gala", but there is a lot of leeway on the smart attire, which I have noticed on previous cruises on informal nights. We cruise on QM2 in November and booked Britannia Club to see if the dress code was adhered to a little better . Obviously, some people don't think the dress code applies to them.

  2. We are on the QE in January 2018 from NY to the western Caribbean and getting off in San Francisco. Will we need visas (we are US citizens) in any of the locations? Vaccinations? I can't seem to find any definite information. This will be our first trip to the Caribbean and on the QE. Hope she is as great as the QM2!

  3. We have two 2018 cruises booked, both done onboard QM2 on previous cruises. Excellent OBC, low deposits, and plenty of time to cancel if life changes. January 2018 is on the QE, NY to SF through the Panama Canal, and November 2018 on the QM2 from NY to the eastern Caribbean and back to NY. Long time to wait, but also something to look forward to on those days when you need that "something."

  4. For those who have been on the NY-Halifax trip in July, I have a few questions. Is it necessary to book an excursion, or can one walk from the QM2's berth to shops, etc. in Halifax? What is the weather generally like in July in Halifax? Any other info/tips on the Halifax leg of this trip is also appreciated.

  5. A website called sea-scanner will give a webcam view of the Cunard ships, as well as others, their current location, where they are going, etc. Our son found it while we were on our TA this summer, and kept up with us our entire trip. From the website I can't figure out how to find the location of a ship, but if you google current location of ? (ship's name) it will come up. Enjoy!

  6. Maybe you could cancel the cruise with your agent, then rebook yourself. I would have done it if I had known then what I know now. I think our agent was looking out for himself and not us so live and learn.

  7. I don't know if I will ever use a travel agent again to book my cruise. I felt we were "taken for a ride" price wise, and once locked in with him I was told I couldn't take advantage of any price reductions Cunard offered. I know better now and we have already booked another Cunard cruise directly so that we can take advantage of special offers. I ended up making our flight arrangements (we have frequent flyer miles), hotel reservations, and transfer arrangements as well. I came out find less expensive but equally good accommodations and transfer services. Dial 7 was an excellent transfer service, both from LGA to Brooklyn, and back to LGA after returning to Red Hook (we did EB and WB transatlantics). Our hotel in Brooklyn, The Aloft, was reasonable, and arranged our taxi from the hotel to Red Hook. No hitches anywhere. We were pleased.

  8. I agree with all that was said about the TA on August 1. What a delightful trip and even our rogue wave and rough sea day were a highlight. We were amazed at how smoothly everything operates from the food selections, cabin stewards, efficiency of staff, and book selection in the library. This was our second TA and I think it was more enjoyable that the first. We look forward to sailing the Queens for years to come.

  9. Wow- what a plethora of advice. Thanks to all. We are coming in from SC so will be spending the night in NY before boarding The Mary, as we have started referring to her, so would have a carry on for that night--Needless to say, we are already excited even though we don't sail until July 6! I enjoy reading all of the banter back and forth between you seasoned Cunarders. Hopefully, I can act seasoned whether I am or not! Thanks, again

  10. As first time cruisers I know that we need a carry on bag/necessities for embarkation, but what does one do with that bag while waiting on access to our cabin? I searched previous threads but got no definitive information.

  11. We too are on this TA, and last I checked on the VP, there were four formal nights listed, but no theme associated with them. Also, one night longer at sea. We are not jazz fans, but have been assured by our Travel Agent that we won't have to endure jazz 254/7. Hopefully this Cunard experience will be as good as the one EB in July (which is highly anticipated).
