  1. Has anyone been to Fredericia, Denmark? I searched and found that it is a new port this year, and Wikipedia says it was a fortress town and "an hour walk around the city walls" has historical statues, and old cannons. Although it talks about the pristine beaches, I don't think my early May cruise will be beach weather in Denmark.

Is there anything to do in this port?

The Scandinavia and St Petersburg cruise is jam packed with great ports but this one has me a bit baffled. Why not two days in exciting Copenhagen? has anyone been there or is this like an At Sea day docked?

We went to it on the Silhouette in May 2015 and found it charming for a place we had never really heard of. Very well-preserved earthworks, a goodly bit of history (Sweden v. Danes v. Germans), and only a short bit of walking. Though two hours will let you see most of it - there is a "miniature town" a short walk away which some liked as well. And even July is not "beach weather" in the Baltic as far as Floridians are concerned. BTW, I fear Tivoli will disappoint you in Copenhagen - I was told the best restaurant there was Bosnian <g>.

  2. Can anyone recommend tour guides they have used in Tallin, one I am looking at is a company called Saku?

Walking in Talinn is easy - and many people there speak excellent English. Beware of pickpockets as always - but tour guide groups are not immune from that problem. McD by the old gate has free Wi-Fi, but you need a code for their restroom <g>. They do have hop-on buses if you wish to avoid a small hill, but there are many locals who are pleased to get a chance to talk with foreigners who do not try to speak Russian.

  3. If I recall correctly, St. Petersburg has a remote chance of being targeted by any Mid-East terrorists, but they have an ongoing problem of pickpockets and cutpurses - especially at crowded sites like the Hermitage (where, alas, the tour guides believe tourists are part tsardine).

Have at least two layers of solid fabric between your valuables and the outside world in such places - the offenders work in teams and rapidly pass the goods on to cohorts even if you see the person grabbing a wallet or purse, or even earrings. They have been known to cut straps and even cut pockets from men's trousers - your tour guide will suggest you take no valuables off the bus (the crooks seem not to attack the goods in buses for some reason).

And remember - even in horrid terrorist target areas, you are more likely to be in a car accident than in a terror incident.

Hope this reassures you, and warns you as well.
