  1. I would love an Ocean Suite, but it's approx. $1,600 more and I really can't justify that increase.

Right now I am looking at 7281,7270, 7286. All the available cabins on deck 8 do not convert to a king bed.

I have never had this much confusion on all the cruises I have taken. Maybe I am overthinking trying to make this cruise special for them?

Any suggestions on the above cabins?

We are just off Vista, we had 7291, so I can recommend deck 7. I did not want 6 as it is above the lanai and promenade, didn't want to worry about noise from below. Deck 6 starboard (forward) is also right above the smoking area on 5

  2. If you are going from the port to Placa Catalunya and looking for tapas, go just a bit further, ask them to take you to Cervecería Catalana https://www.facebook.com/Cervecer%C3%ADa-Catalana-539478542770052/

really excellent food, and a great staff, friendly and helpful. You may have a wait for a table, if you are not wanting to wait there are barstools that you can get to faster.

    Really excellent!

We also ate dinner at one of the most famous places for Paella in Barcelona, 7 portes https://www.facebook.com/7portes/ , which is even closer to the port. If you are having an early meal (5-5:30 is early there) you should not need a reservation, but it is otherwise a very busy place most days I understand. Upscale, a little pricey for Barcelona but not extravagant, get the canneloni with truffles as an appetizer, they were fantastic!

We ate at both of these restaurants this week. Great meals!

  3. It was announced by the captain after departing Marseille on the last night of our cruise that a technical issue was occurring and that it would affect our ability to reach top speed. We were informed we would reach Barcelona about 1 hour late.

Jaime the CD then came on and announced everyone with early flights through carnival would be rebooked at no additional cost, and further that anyone who had booked early flights independently would be reimbursed for any cost for changes necessary due to the delay. They set up a special desk in a dining room to work with people on issues.

We came in to the port verrryy slowly, and the stern was moved in to the dock and the the fore, unlike our other stops where side propulsion moved the ship up to the pier straight and even. I noticed our speed, according to the TV map display exceeded 20 knots, but not faster. Even with the delay, the first passengers walked off just past 7am.

We received no further info about the technical issue.

  4. We couldn't use our ATM card in Greece because it didn't have a chip. It would not take our card which was a VISA atm/debit card. We tried multiple machines.

You don't need an ATM card with a chip in Europe. While many ATM cards now come with a chip, that really doesn't matter in Europe, or even here in the US. A "debit card" is the same as an ATM card.

This part of the post is incorrect. There are still ATM's in Europe that accept non-chip cards, but they are disappearing. Many, if not most now require a chip.

RoadTripFanatic's experiences matched ours, the ATM's which reject non-chip ATM cards are becoming more prevalent.

  5. I have worked it out! I know the name. The hype associated with the naming of the new 'Vista 2' ship is quite purposeful. Hints given by John Heald included 7 letters and a Z and N in the name and no it's not Horizon.

In the ever increasing pursuit of profit, Carnival is beginning a new program of selling the naming rights of the ships.

Get ready to welcome your Carnival Verizon!

    (Tongue firmly in cheek)

  6. I have checked Periscope a couple times during the inaugural did not see anything on the map.

I am following someone who is snap hating, he shared his ID on a FB group for vista.

I would not periscope from vista only because I will not pay for the fast internet package.

  7. there was another incident yesterday although not directly in our new port.

Most of the violence has been attacks on police and military, in some cases tourists have been caught up in these incidents, thus the State Dept warnings.

The attached article says 36 million tourists visited Turkey last year. I am thinking we will be safe, absent any big increase in problems this summer.
