  1. Oh DH will be soo upset. ..although I am sure he wont go hungry. He is a chef and besides all the yummy food he saw he likes all the carvings and details they put into the setup and layout. He says it shows off the chefs passions. On HAL we did their dessert extravaganza. ..he was in heaven with all the neat ways and things they made the chocolate, fruit and breads into...plus of course then he got to eat them. He even asked and was a able to take pics with some if the ones who made the creations.

I have fond memories of Celebrity's Midnight Buffet... such an elegant and sumptuous affair! They would open the doors a half hour early for photographers. It was truly spectacular!

  2. I think that's fine, and great, but what would you suggest Celebrity to do in order to entice people to participate or to separate the formal evenings from non-formal. Surely the farce that was just printing different words in the daily did not suffice. I can think of a few items to differentiate these nights from other nights, but I am curious about what would make it more special for you as everyone has different opinions.

Celebrity could have "grown a spine", posted a large board referencing banned attire at the entrance to MDR and then proceeded to enforce it. I do agree that "farce" is the appropriate word to attach to Celebrity's approach.

  3. Celebrity's standard never was "Penguin Suit" only. Those who have gotten their wish can be assured that they will receive a cruise to match. No reason to be anything special to people who don't care. It is what it is and for those who don't know any better, it won't matter.

Exactly. Thank you for expressing what I am feeling so succinctly!

It's part of life. And not to be snarky, but if your immune system is such that it cannot be compromised, a cruise may not be the right kind of vacation for you simply because you ARE in close proximity to so many others with (unless you live only on your balcony - or outside on the decks, but there will be others there) pretty much recirculated air. Ditto flying to get somewhere.

I quite agree and if I return from my next cruise as sick as the last one I will sadly need to consider closing the curtain on 25 years of wonderful cruising. That said, I find the cavalier attitude toward a potential shipboard environmental hazard that should probably be addressed a little off putting.

  5. I'd be pretty concerned if the nurse on the ship told me this was caused by something in the ventilation, bacterial or not. I'd be writing a letter to RCCL and hoping they'd be taking something like this very, very seriously.

I came home from the Caribbean with bronchitis last year...is this something the CDC should be monitoring?

  6. Not difficult at all. Call RCI's Crown & Anchor number, US or Canada: (800) 526-9723, and give them your Celebrity Captain's Club membership number, and they will give you a Crown & Anchor membership number. Simple as that.

Thanks for all the good information. One other query...if one cabin occupant is Diamond and the other is not, do both receive Diamond benefits?

  7. Long time Celebrity cruisers who are considering Grandeur for its close proximity. Are there good dance venues with live music on a regular basis? Any onboard lectures? Other than fee dependent entertainment and dining,...can you just "show up" and gain access. Also, how difficult is it for Celebrity Elite Plus to establish Diamond status? Thanks.

  8. I got 'the cough' on Celebrity Eclipse July 2013. I was croaky half way through the cruise but came back with a cough lasting 3 weeks. No meds touched it.

After researching I found info on cruise cough and since have bought saline nasal spray and use it twice a day on a cruise and to date have been fine.

My OH got 'the cough' in June this year on Eclipse and its still lingering. The common view is that the aircon environment dries out your nasel passages so they pick up bugs more readily. Another 'cure' seems to be hanging a wet towel in your cabin overnight to keep the humidity up.

Thanks for those suggestions...we will be sailing Eclipse again in February and will definitely employ them. We're booked in the same 1A cabin which gives me a little pause--if I experience the same problem I'll be avoiding it in the future like "the plague!"

  9. I developed a sore throat 11 days into a 14 day Celebrity Eclipse cruise last February and it progressed to a cough, wheezing and difficulty breathing very rapidly. Once home I decided time would win out but I only got worse. Finally, my doc diagnosed me with bronchitis which was induced by a virus

  10. We are taking an 11 day cruise in November. I have been reading this thread and watched a packing video of a person laying out the clothes on top of a carry on alternating top and bottom. He got a lot of stuff in it. I decided to experiment.

I have a very old Lands' End carry on, DH is 6'3" size 13 shoe ( for example purpose)

I packed one pair of sneakers, sock to fill shoes, 3 pair of pants, 8 undies, 10 shirts, polo and a couple of long sleeve and still had a little space left over! I was amazed!!

I employed the "bundling" technique last cruise...and, like you, I was amazed at how many items this method will accommodate. I took the added precaution of using tissue paper...minimal wrinkling.

  11. Always looking for ways to pack less...thanks for all the great suggestions! We've never achieved just roll aboard status but now only check a garment bag. Also try to book nonstop outbound flights and keep our checked luggage with us. One way I eliminate a liquid and added weight is by removing and using those perfume samples from magazines, etc. It's kinda fun experimenting with new scents. Liquids and medicine are our "Waterloo!"
